Usually there's a fairly big backlash in the forums when they do a match at WM that's been done a lot before.
These two feuded relatively recently in NXT, and have a LONG history in the indies.
How do you feel about it from that point of view?
I'm OK with it, but I'd rather give it another year when it might mean more on the card. I generally want "fresh" (if done before, at least not in a while) matches at WM, but there are exceptions like Taker-HBK rematching and Rock-Austin (I thought the third was too many in too short a time). I wasn't excited for Cena-Rock 2 but I understood it for business reasons.
I'm just wondering how much the "I've watched these two go at it for years in the indies and NOW we get to see it at WM" factor outweighs the "Give me something fresh" factor. Personally, I'd rather see Owens-AJ and let Sami show up on the Raw after WM to join the main roster, but that's just me.

I wouldn't really call it "recent". They had two matches in NXT months ago, and both were very one-sided (in different directions) and ended in non-decisive, up-in-the-air ways.
Though I don't think the Mania match is going to be one-on-one anyway. I think they'll just be two of several in some get-'em-on-the-card match.

I'm not sure this match will actually be one-on-one at WM anyway, what with them teasing a Kalisto/Ryback US belt match. I think Zayn wins the IC multi-man here and we get Zayn/Owens at Extreme Rules with a stipulation of some sort.

El Generico vs. Kevin Steen was the feud that got me into independent wrestling.
These two can feud forever and forever, as far as I'm concerned.

It's El Generico & Kevin Steen at WRESTLEMANIA...and whoever else, that part is irrelevant...generally speaking? The internet is surely in pure mark out melt down mode over this thought.

I never saw their ROH feud, but their last match in NXT was almost a year ago. This feels less like a rehash and more like taking the feud to the next level.

Owens beats Zayn in his first Title match at a big event in NXT... Zayn returns the favour by beating Owens for a title in his first title match on the main roster at THE biggest event, not only showing what goes around comes around, but sticking it to Owens even more. This all sounds great to me

I'm fine with it. I started watching ROH at the tail end of Sami's career there, and I don't really watch NXT, so I missed all of that. So this is fresh for me.

Their matches in NXT were more like segments to get Owens over as a heel. They're due for a proper match at this point.

I am not against them doing it again, but I am not sure about them acting like their history is as known as Rock/Austin so to speak. It is weird, I am hyped to see it live, I wish they had more time to build it. If Sami hadn't spent the last few months in NXT, having the Rumble be his call up, I think I'd like it more.

People usually complain when the people who have matches over and over have no passion or reasoning for them to be booked over and over in this fashion
Owens and Zayn have some of the best chemistry in all of wrestling, they can wrestle over and over and it DOESN'T get old. It's rare but it's doable.

I haven't read this thread, but if anyone thinks Owens/Zayn shouldn't feud, then they are wrong.

I haven't read this thread, but if anyone thinks Owens/Zayn shouldn't feud, then they are wrong. I'd probably argue they shouldn't feud heading into Mania with only three weeks to build up their feud when Zayn has next to no time on the main roster yet and hasn't really even been formally introduced, but that's really a whole different can of worms and they're good enough I at least can trust them to make it work.

As someone who doesn't watch NXT or keep up with the Indies, this is fresh to me. I know the history between them because of FAN but my only exposure to Zayn and Owens is RAW...yes I've only seen 1 Sami Zayn match...against Cena. Even with that little of exposure to them I'm pumped for this feud, they seem to just have a natural chemistry with each other.

Yeah, I almost want them to only have 3 weeks because I'd be a little concerned they'd overbook and overthink it. EDIT: that made more sense in my head.

Nothing to be upset about here. It's like Austin vs Rock back in the day. It could happen a few times every year and I would be into it every time.
Especially exciting because it's happening on a huge stage finally.

Damn, I'm annoyed I missed Sami coming out tonight.
Anyway, regardless of the type of match, I demand backstage footage of them hugging. Best friends Kevin Steen and El Generico making it to Wrestlemania and facing each other. It's a wonderful tale.

I think Zayn deserves to be on the Mania card but don't really want Owens/Zayn one on one this year since Zayn already has a big match at Takeover Dallas, and I want to see the IC Title defended in a multiman match (mainly because I'd rather the Former World Champion Club be chasing that title instead of the US Title).

It helps that their previous matches actually told a story, and that story has somewhere else to go. Much of the time, the rematches wear thin because watching any given match is meaningless due to lack of storytelling.
