One of the greatest speeches uttered by a Hero in any medium, from the best incarnation of Superman. My friend Greg is flat wrong, he does have character flaws and this shows how great a character he is.

My friend Greg is flat wrong, he does have character flaws and this shows how great a character he is. The speech is cool, but it is part of the reason i don't really like superman, feels like just a cheap way to adjust his powers to whatever history is needed. While i do admit Superman in the cartoon is cool,he is outshined by almost every single other hero.

Ugh. He's watched one show (that he even admitted to liking) and one movie (where turning back time was a special circumstance...it's not like Supes flies around the world because he forgot to DVR his favorite show), and has done otherwise no research whatsoever. MAGIC, for crying out loud. Dude also ends this rant by saying "bring on the disagreements" but then if you read the comments, he says people aren't going to change his mind. So he wrote this whole thing solely to rile people up. Great.

IMO Superman's main problem is that there's not a lot of great Superman stories out there. Yes, you get the odd All-Star Superman, or Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow every now and then. But they're few and far between those typical dull Superman punching some really strong alien guy a lot stories.

I love Superman, but in retrospect I really wish they'd had the guts to keep him dead a lot longer than they did when Doomsday killed him. The fact that Superman was ever wrecked that badly in my mind damages the whole "he's too powerful!" argument, but it really would have made it a lot more special if he was out of action longer. Great. He made it five years ago. Now he's said he hates it outside of the Darkeseid episodes, and Braniac's debut episode. As far as him not doing research, its really just his personal blog so since he hates Superman he's not going to bother going out of his way to read up more about him. His replies to comments to that were disappointing though. You can have your opinions on a character, but so can others.

Everything here is wrong. Its a less than basic understanding of a character and comes off like 99% of people who hates Superman, no understanding of the character, never read a story and yet acts like they have full knowledge of what kind of a character he is. Do you know why I hate these people most of all? Their fickle, all it would take too change their minds is a movie like Deadpool or Iron Man. Then everybody would be a fan of Superman and I would hate those people more. Seriously tell your friend too go watch Kill Bill vol. 2 again and leave the rest of us alone.

Then you have his alter ego Clark Kent. This is how superman hides his abilities in the normal world. It's his vision of what an average human being is. Wimpy, Nerdy, Clumsy and a Coward. So basically I view Superman as a Vain, Egotistical Jerk. Sure he could have done evil with his abilities. But I feel the only reason he didn't is because of his upbringing with the wholesome and loving Kent's. Had he dropped onto the yard of some criminal family. He probably would have done Evil things. First off, as far as Clark being how Superman views humanity, you must have stolen that from Kill Bill because that's the only other time I've heard that argument. Clark Kent personality wise is who he is. It's who he grew up as. He just dresses like a total dork because it makes it way less obvious that he's the most famous man on the planet trying to have a little privacy. As for the Kents, that's the entire point of those characters. Krypton was a cold logical world, and the Kents raising Superman into a loving person is why they put so much emphasis on the fact that he was raised by them. Oh, and as far as what you mentioned about his appearance, you are right. The way his powers work probably shouldn't make him muscular, but he doesn't work out. That's just how they draw him. Kyle Rayner was an artist who got a ring and he had a similar physique. Captain Atom is literall energy in a suit yet still has that build. It's a mainstream superhero comic, every man is handsome and muscular, and every woman looks like a playmate. Also, if he were as vain and egotistical as you claim, he would be Superman all the time, and never spend any time as "wimpy" Clark Kent.

i think you've confused wimpy and a coward with compassion and kindness. yes, Clark is how he sees humanity, but all things that are right with the species. look, Clark Kent is Mr. Miyagi. he know what he's capable of, so he doesn't need to prove anything. that's why Clark acts weak, because he knows how strong he is. and i don't mean physically. and strong as ten men? try again

OP is clearly joking and you're all taking it way too serious. When I saw this thread title I was immediately like oh no not another "babyface is actually the heel thread" but this caught me off guard and made me laugh. Good job OP. If anything OP is satirizing these kind of threads.

Kane is one of my favorite wrestlers and a lot of people here hate him or wishes he retires or never comes back from an injury etc and he's a real person. Honestly if Superman was real and read this thread, I doubt he would get mad or upset. He would probably shrug his shoulders or even laugh and carry on with his day for he has some real shit to think about

I'm just tired of the "goody goody heroes are inherently uninteresting and bland" crap.

I'm a guy with a shaking ass avatar who talks about half human turtles that fight crime and a 6 foot rabbit how can stop bullets with his finger. Logics in fiction are that important to me. I just wanted to see the reaction. I've never seen a superman cartoon or movie so I wouldn't feel right actually arguing any points about it. Although I'm happy there are different reasons that people have come up with for his physique instead of the obvious "He's an alien, who says what his body type is like" Never saw Kill Bill either. Not knowing anything about Superman, that's honestly how I've always viewed Clark Kent. I guess my main extent of knowledge on the character comes from the 90s Dean Cain show. which I hear wasn't that accurate anyway.

That's kinda weird, considering Lois & Clark was a show that always went with Clark being the guy's actual personality.

Even as a kid I wasn't a fan of Superman. He is so powerful that unless you got a great writer writing him, lots of the stories fall into the trap of using either kryptonite or Magic.
Honestly there is only 3 Superman stories I enjoy.
For the Man that has everything-The annual written by Alan Moore. That two part final pre-Crisis Superman story Moore wrote. The DC Comics Presents issue were Superman teams up with Swamp Thing and once again Alan Moore wrote it.

That whole "Clark is Superman's view of humanity" thing originated with Quinten Tarantino and it's completely off-base. The idea is that Clark be someone you could just never suspect is a hero. It's the same reason Bruce Wayne acts like a complete putz in public. Add into the fact that Supes probably identifies more with Earthlings than he does with any other group. He didn't come to this planet as an adult who had to blend in. He came in as a baby, and was raised by humans as a human being. He is an immigrant child assimilated into the culture.
