Edge said in his book he and Val Venis were supposed to get the New Midnight Express gimmick that went to Bob Holly and Bart Gunn. Interesting what would've happened.

Ron Reis got the Yeti gimmick as the originally-planned El Gigante/Giant Gonzalez was too far gone health-wise to go through with it.
Roman got Chris Hero's spot in the Shield.
There's always been the urban legend of Curt Hennig getting the Mr. Perfect gimmick intended for Terry Taylor, leaving Taylor to get the Rooster gimmick, but that's not quite true. The original interview with Taylor (I think, it could have been Hennig) simply said they came in at the same time and with similar builds and looks, could easily have gotten the roles the other got.

I remember hearing rumours (can't remember where though) that The Million Dollar Man gimmick was planned for Nick Bockwinkel when Vince was buying up a lot of the AWA guys in the mid-80s. Bock may have been getting on by then but I think he could have made it work. Although, as much as I love Bockwinkel, I'm glad it never happened.

It was a Taylor with interview with WCWwrestling.com during one of their online streams in the early days of wrestling on the internet. He said something to the affect of "I could have been the Mr. Perfect they were considering" and the internet ran with it, just like how around the same time Undertaker telling a fan during an autograph signing that Sid pooped his pants at a house show match became Sid pooping his pants at Wrestlemania.

Not nessecarily a gimmick, but wasn't "The Game" moniker originally intended for Owen Hart?

Not nessecarily a gimmick, but wasn't "The Game" moniker originally intended for Owen Hart? no. this is one of the stupidest internet wrestling legends ever, and it all traces back to some dork adding it to owen hart's imdb without a source. people like to say triple h said it was true in an interview, but nobody to date has ever been able to provide said interview.

DiBiase got there first. Nick was still AWA champion. Bockwinkel did come in later in the year, but just as an agent.

Konnan was going to be Max Moon and I think he even worked a match or two as him.
Barry Darsow wasn't the original Smash.

The Iraqi Sympathizer gimmick was designed for Tugboat.

I actually heard they were trying to bring Bockwinkel in a couple of years before DiBiase came in but he decided to stay with AWA at that particular point.

Interesting ones. One a lot of people know about already is that Mark Jindrak was at one point intended to be in Evolution, and was even shot for the titantron, with them having to edit around that.

Bautista got Mark Jindrak's spot in evolution. The WWE shot promos with Jindrak as the 4th member but he didn't work out so they went with Bautista instead.

Wasn't Too Cool originally going to be the gay couple that they eventually had Billy and Chuck be?

Wasn't Too Cool originally going to be the gay couple that they eventually had Billy and Chuck be? They started out as a Heel team called "Too Much" and they had a vaguely homoerotic heel gimmick before changing their name to Too Cool

The bigger problem with this urban legend is that it just makes no sense. Owen Hart was pretty vocal about not wanting to resign when his deal was up, and was pretty much a comedy afterthought with the Blue Blazer gimmick. Triple H was on his way to the world title and being the top heel in the company. There's no way they would retool Owen Hart as The Game when he's on his way down and Hunter is on his way up. Besides, "The Game" moniker was the result of a one off line from a pre-PPV promo (that took place two months after Over the Edge) that they ended up running with because it sounded really cool and would move t-shirts.
