Not as bad or shocking as a lot of things mentioned, but I thought of the Percy Pringle\Jim Cornette shoot, and Percy asking, "Do you know how many briefcases Lester Welch had stolen from his car?" Jim laughed, and Percy continued, "I saw the pile of 'em in a closet at the office."
Jim went on to explain: "Somebody was always appointed to collect the box office and take it back to the office, where of course the IRS would be duly notified, but in those days, the roads were treacherous and filled with outlaws and misfits and ne'er do wells, so golly...sometimes it just didn't make it back to the office. And of course, the money was just gone. In fact, more money was lost in the wrestling business through stolen briefcases than any other reason besides, 'Somebody left the back door open.'"

"Somebody" stealing the gate money happened to a LOT of the territory promoters, some more than others, but few never had it happen. How about whoever did Heroes of Wrestling? I've never heard anything about them being scumbags or doing any of the workers wrong; they were just incredibly inept and way, way in over their heads.

Vince not stopping the show after a man literally lost his life in the ring. He died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital after his heart was beating again. There's a difference there. He was dead the moment he hit the turnbuckle. It's disingenuous to suggest otherwise. And I concur. The show should've ended.

The stories in Shaun Assael's book Sex Lies and Headlocks would suggest Vince McMahon definitely belongs on the scummier side of the scum list.

I've never heard about the last part, but, yeah, the story goes that David Flair quit working for IWA: Puerto Rico when Quiones broke in and jizzed on his face. Ric also sought him out for a fight the next time WWE was over there.

This doesn't even make it on the list of the worst ever but I thought I'd share it. The Metal Maniac who was probably most well known for having a hundred matches with Jimmy Snuka all over the northeastern independents ran a show at some kind of religious center and stiffed his entire locker room after the show. He went around telling everyone "The priest f**ked me! He took all the money!"

More comical than scumbaggy, but I remember reading on another message board there was an inept promoter who thought and acted like he was a big deal, prokot s a show where he forgot to rent a ring, so he had guys wrestle on a gym mat. Blamed the rest of the world for it happening and had a pretty hysterical facebook page.

Didn't he try and get Homicide to pleasure him and then Cide just beat the crap out of him?

Boesch, Sam Muchnick and Don Owens are the ones usually named by people as being the most honest promoters. "Most honest" being that they didn't pull some of the crap the others did, but I doubt they were pure angels either. I don't know enough about it to say definitively, but Tenryu's running of WAR might be up there, too. Seemed like he actually gave a shit about the people he promoted's wellbeing, which puts him ahead of most. Otto Wanz, while this is relatively minor by this thread's standards, apparently would abuse the exchange rate for currency when bringing in guys from overseas, so he'd end up paying you less than you were led to believe you'd get. It's typical carny bullshit, versus a lot of the extreme examples, but it's worth mentioning. Both Jericho and Storm have nothing but praise for Tenryu. Of all people I don't think anyone has anything bad to say about Insane Clown Posse. Also hearing that Lia Miavia story is incredibly f***ed up. Threaten somebody's kids?! How the hell she kept any good health after that?

Of all people I don't think anyone has anything bad to say about Insane Clown Posse. Cornette's definitely not a fan, though his beef isn't from a promotional standpoint, just a generational thing. The only person I've ever heard knock them on their promotion abilities was HTM, who felt they cheated him on some money. They found out and took care of the situation and now he's hunky dory with them. But yeah, ICP get a lot of praise from workers for how they handle the business side of things.

You're thinking about the Masked Maniac. This was the Metal Maniac also known as Jeff Miller.
