This screams of pandering and being 'inclusive' rather than creating a new Black character for the Spider-Man series, but that's me

I hope they don't make her dye her hair. She's apparantly playing MJ as a nerdy character, ratty hair and glasses. Kinda weird. ...why? This is a bigger problem to me than who they got to play her. I mean I'll trust Marvel with this but... they are making some odd decisions for this movie's supporting characters. (if true anyway)

I'm sorry, but I'm one of those that like keeping the characters just the way they are. Do you object to productions of Shakespeare's plays with non-white cast members?

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}She's playin MJ comicsalliance.com/zendayas-secret-spider-man-role-revealed/I don't know enough about her as an actress to speak on if she's suitable for the role, so guess we'll have to see. I'd like to think there won't be any weird backlash, but given the whole Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch thing of just last year.. well.. My biggest problem with the whole Human Torch debacle was always Fox/Marvel/whomever getting in my face screaming at me that I was a hate filled bigot nerd racist and that Micheal B. Jordan was going to be the black Human Torch whether I liked it or not. When I asked who they were going to cast as his sister, the black Invisible woman, the studio made up some dumbass pointless story about adoption or some bull crap for no reason. Johnny and Sue Storm are blood brother and sister. If we wanted diversity, making them both black would have been an excellent step in the right direction. For whatever reason, the studio chickened out doing that and made themselves look like hypocrites, assholes, and even a little like racists themselves. To be fair, how many adopted brother-sister superhero teams can you name with motion pictures?

I clicked on this wondering what the horse Ric Flair f***ed was doing in Spider Man and leave just as confused but for a different reason.

The problem is changing a character for any reason when creating a new character is better and could bring in a new audience for the market.

I do hope that she won't get the same horrific backlash that Leslie Jones got. And as for how much she looks like the in-comic character, no human is ever going to have the bizarre proportions or twisted flexibility of the comics version, so why not take some chances anyway?

I just want redhair. MJ without redhair is like Wolverine without Mutton Chops.

I do hope that she won't get the same horrific backlash that Leslie Jones got. I doubt it, I think it had more to do the female casting when it was all men. The only way you get that much hate again is if this was a man being cast as Michael Watson. And the stuff about her figure is just you describing 99% of every female in comics, and most of the men too. So many weird lines in weird places.

This screams of pandering and being 'inclusive' rather than creating a new Black character for the Spider-Man series, but that's me That same logic is being used by people against the new Rocketeer(who will be a new character). Every time a POC or woman is cast nowadays, it's always responded with "This is just pandering." Cause it couldn't be they liked the actor for the role, nope. Gotta have that asterisk attached to it.

Well, I checked out her IMDB and it doesn't instill one with confidence but hey, maybe she brought something to the table. Maybe her chemistry with Holland is popping!
Gonna try and give them the benefit of the doubt. Cause...they changed Flashs race too, right?

So a chick from queens isn't really that big of a deal. Besides, it doesn't change the character...just the appearance. Now Flash on the other hand, his character starts out the typical jock yada yada, who was played by 6'5" Joe Manganiello in the old spider man movies to a 5'6 guy now. I'm just going to assume he's going to be putting Peter down with clever banter in this one.

He's gonna verbally bully Peter to run off to his safe-space.

I can only assume that's what they're going for...or maybe he'll be the kicker for the football team.

And truth be told it does fit with the whole thing of the Fantastic Four not being related but being a family nevertheless. Which makes Reed and Sue's relationship kinda creepy if you think about it but there it is.

As long as she has red hair I don't really care about her skin tone. Plus Zendaya is a very attractive woman, which covers the second of MJ's two most defining physical features, that she's too hot for Peter.

She can pull it off. See, that to me just solidifies that I don't care one bit about her being mixed race or whatever her ethnicity is. The red hair looks good on her, and we're finally getting an MJ whose looks are way out of Peter's league. "You just hit the jackpot" is finally going to make sense. Yeah, the red hair does look really good on her. So that's awesome, she more than passes the test for MJ being a knockout.

As long as she has red hair in the film, I won't care. I mean, that would be like making Kingpin have gorgeous locks of hair or Dr. Doom not have a mask on at all.
