{Spoiler}She's playin MJ comicsalliance.com/zendayas-secret-spider-man-role-revealed/I don't know enough about her as an actress to speak on if she's suitable for the role, so guess we'll have to see. I'd like to think there won't be any weird backlash, but given the whole Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch thing of just last year.. well..

Not sure it's going to be much of a surprise when it's being bluntly spoiled so far from the film's release date, but I approve of any effort to diversify character roles. I'm sure there's some backlash coming unfortunately, but good for Zendaya.

Can we get a Sasha Banks hair dye for some red hair at least? Sorry I just think we need more red heads, even fake, in the world

I know an MCU solo movie without any kind of love story is pretty much unheard of, but I was really hoping Spider-Man would be the exception. The Peter-MJ romance was basically an albatross to the Raimi trilogy, and the second Amazing movie just spent so much time letting Peter and Gwen have chemistry that it kinda forgot about the rest of the movie. I was hoping this time we'd just get Spidey being Spidey without him worrying about his women problems for once.

All I know about her is that she's in Taylor Swift's posse and had a song a few years ago that got somewhat decent traction. As far as being an actress goes, all I see for her filmography is a bunch of Disney Channel stuff, so I'm not familiar. Hoping she'll be good. Marvel (to me) has at worst made a couple of mediocre movies, but most have been solid, so I'll keep my hopes up for now.

Marvel's usually good at casting so if they think Zendaya can be a good MJ, I'll trust them. Just hope they let her dye her hair red.

I hope they don't make her dye her hair. She's apparantly playing MJ as a nerdy character, ratty hair and glasses. Kinda weird.

I'm sorry, but I'm one of those that like keeping the characters just the way they are.

If her hair is red, sure why not I guess?
If they take away MJ's defining physical feature, I'm calling bullshit.

I'd like to think there won't be any weird backlash, but given the whole Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch thing of just last year.. well.. My biggest problem with the whole Human Torch debacle was always Fox/Marvel/whomever getting in my face screaming at me that I was a hate filled bigot nerd racist and that Micheal B. Jordan was going to be the black Human Torch whether I liked it or not. When I asked who they were going to cast as his sister, the black Invisible woman, the studio made up some dumbass pointless story about adoption or some bull crap for no reason. Johnny and Sue Storm are blood brother and sister. If we wanted diversity, making them both black would have been an excellent step in the right direction. For whatever reason, the studio chickened out doing that and made themselves look like hypocrites, assholes, and even a little like racists themselves. I didn't have any problem with Kingpin, Heimdall, Ben Urich, Harvey Dent, soon Valkyrie, and now Mary Jane Waton being portrayed by black actors. I just don't like studios, social justice warriors, and critics lumping "all nerds" or "all comic book fans" into one big "racisisisisisisisisist" stereotype. I realize there are racist assholes out there, but don't assume all of us are just like them. Just my personal opinion, but I'd rather have "black Mary Jane" or "black Kingpin" over Mary Sue token "Miles Morales" any day of the week.

I mean hell, she even has paint on her overalls! MJ: Peter, you've taught me to be myself. You never saw me as the girl in glasses. Peter: Don't forget the paint-covered overalls. MJ: Right... you never noticed those either. You taught me a lot about myself.

See, that to me just solidifies that I don't care one bit about her being mixed race or whatever her ethnicity is. The red hair looks good on her, and we're finally getting an MJ whose looks are way out of Peter's league. "You just hit the jackpot" is finally going to make sense.

Slightly unrelated but figured I'd mention this here. I only found out the other day that our new Spider-Man is the son of Dominic Holland, the stand-up comedian. How that escaped me since Tom Holland was winning plaudits for his role in The Impossible and the musical of Billy Elliot I don't know.

No objections here, though I don't really know who she is so... Eh? See if she's good in the role I guess.
I dunno, honestly don't know if I'll see this movie or not. Amazing 2 sucked and their follow-up plans for it were terrible, and Spidey was pretty damn good in Civil War, but the whole, "Third take on the series in fifteen years," thing really rubs on me the wrong way and makes me pretty immediately disinterested.
