Austin: "The first thing I want done..." Jake: "WOO HOO....SAY IT TO MY FACE" Austin: "Is to get that piece of trash out of my ring" Jake: "WOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WOOOOOO" Austin: "Don't just get him out of the ring, get him out of the damn business" Jake: "SAY IT TO MY FACE STEEEEVE!!!" Nah. It doesn't work. One person cuts a promo, and the other responds, or you have a face-to-face where each wrestler can say their piece in a way that builds up a feud and storyline. Having one person speak while the other just screams and shouts incessantly does no one any good, especially the person/s yelling. The Bellas looked like fools doing that. That's just cherry picking and context. That promo was far from anything from a burial and it was Austin's post match promo addressing the crowd and TV Camera's and not directly to the wrestler's face inside the wrestling ring. Not an in ring promo. Like I would of loved if Booker T tanked or had some rebuttal during Triple H's "People Like You Promo." Or "LOL JOHN CENA U HAVE BAD WORKRATEZ" built up for Wrestlemania 22 where Cena just responds much later with a I have great amount of respect for you and I do suck in the ring when beforehand Cena was a guy who wasn't afraid to trash talk anybody else. Or any promo Triple H did during Smackdown 2008 where he would make fun of MVP/Brian Kendrick/Shelton Benjamin/Chavo for having a stupid look/bad wrestling skills/being a disappointment/bad promo skills/being small in his smarky shoot style. Austin basically called him a washed up old alcoholic. It was a brutal burial. Their characters were consistently booked as sluts. They were all over every guest host on RAW. That being said, if they wanted the Bellas to respond, give them a segment where they can do so clearly and coherently. You don't have people yelling over a promo, no matter the content. They were the banner girls in the guest host segments. Thats like saying the Price is Right girls are sluts for Drew Carey. It makes no sense to just sit there and take that kind of verbal abuse. Yell back. Its realistic. They were presented as more than just arm candy. I don't have a problem with a person retorting to a promo, but if it's just incoherent yelling while the promo is taking place, nothing of value is accomplished. If you want realism, what was stopping the Bellas and all the other Divas just running up the aisle and kicking AJ's head in?

That promo was practically cut behind Jake the Snake's back who had to be escorted out of the match by refs with no way to retort. Reason for that? Jake The Snake was a huge underdog heading into The King of the Ring tournament and made a unexpected Cinderella Run into the finals but suffered a legitimate injury from Vader the match before while facing one of the heavy favorites in Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin practically cut the standard "Heel won a big time match and now I'm the best wrestler in the world promo." Once again this is nowhere near as Stephanie McMahon emasculating said wrestler face to face with a long pause after she's done talking with no retorts back at Stephanie and instead selling hurt feelings.

Heels are supposed to be hypocrites and say things that aren't true. I get saying the promo didn't help anything or not liking it. But I don't get faulting a heel for heeling. If Kevin Owens cut a promo on babyface Somo Joe and kept making fat jokes at him I don't think people will be posting here how it's a terrible promo because Kevin Owens is also someone who is fat! Nobody but like 10 people know what the intention of that promo was. If it was meant to get AJ over as a babyface (which given the follow up doesn't seem likely) then yes it was a terrible idea for a promo. If it was just a heel trying to get heat and generate interest in a flailing division then it was alright but still not a great idea. It's not AJ's fault that the crowd prefer her to the Bellas, it's on the bookers for making the faces unlikable to the crowd. I find it's good that people found AJ's statement to be hypocritical! That's a good way to get heat in a division that had little of it.The problem was the follow up which was nothing.

Gonna need an example of them explicitly being more than arm candy for Guest Hosts. I must have missed the backstage segment where they had sex with MacGruber. And yeah! They should've went up there and stomped AJ into paste! It would've been fantastic! But I'll settle for them clapping back and yelling.

It'd would've held some merit if AJ Lee was any better a wrestler than the Bellas.
Like, she might have been a fraction better, but Alexa, Sasha, Bayley, Charlotte, and a good handful of the NXT women (especially Asuka) are all miles ahead of where AJ Lee was in her prime.

That's a close call, IMO. Nikki prior to her neck injury, might have been better than AJ was at her peak
