Has there been a more intense wrestler than 96/97 Austin?

Damn! He was phenomenal. You can totally see why he went on to be their biggest star. His anger, his unhingedness, his bitterness, his unpredictability and his intensity was off the charts. His promos were captivating and believable, and to book it off his was booked really well.

Has there been a more intense wrestler than Stone Cold during that period?

Everyone does. That's why the product largely fails nowadays. Vince is scared to death to be a wrestling show.

One thing I've noticed watching the 96/97 Raws and PPVs, is that Austin really did come together in increments, like a puzzle. Each time he's on tv from the first debut as the Ringmaster, something's always tweaked, just a little differently, always closer to the image we all have of peak "Stone Cold". That character grew so organically, it's no wonder he got over the way he did.

Austin beating up fat guys in front of a kiddie pool before breaking into Pillman's house was one of the more surreal scenes during that era.

I liked how obsessed he was with beating Bret Hart, constantly interfering in his matches and brawling with him every chance he had. These days there's not much intensity in these feuds, which is unfortunate.

It's why I've come to really appreciate Enzo again, because that dude's been cutting promos on Cass lately that make me feel like he's truly angry at the guy now for what he did.

I thought Ambrose vs. Rollins would end up becoming one of those feuds.
