To be fair about the dislike of Rick and Morty fans, it even seems like if the developers are a bit begrudged about that side of the fandom. They always throw in jokes aimed at fans that take it too seriously.

I don't bash entire fandoms but I will gladly mock the small minority of obsessive, creepy fanatics. especially when they do things like this: I'm not even gonna open it,reading the title is enough.

Honestly? I see more fandom bashing on the internet than actual toxic fans of things. It might just be because I stay away from fandoms, but still. That being said, I do have a lot of things I don't like about fandoms, which is why I stay away from them, but I don't mock them or attack them in any way.
I'll also go as far as saying that I refuse to mock any of the toxic fans either.
Anyway, apart from everything that's already been said in this thread, I'm going to bring up a tweet that bothered me from a short while ago. Now I follow TotalBiscuit on Twitter, I don't always agree with what he has to say, but this here bothered me on a few different levels:
This attitude is something I completely disagree with. I may have issues with fandoms, I may not participate in them, and I may not like certain fandoms at all, but I think this is going way too far...and this isn't a one off either, he's doubled-down on this multiple times.
Ultimately though, I don't think anyone should judge people based on the entertainment they like.

I'm not either. As someone who seems to always be into stuff "girls shouldn't be into" (wrestling, DBZ/GT/Super) and hopping on board the MLP train when it started to permeate this board, I've seen how ugly things can get just within the fandom, never mind outside of it with the people who choose to complain about a show they don't watch. And as someone who grew up being bullied because I actually had an imagination, I just shrug my shoulders and tell them it's their loss. Idiots like this guy in the video make us all look bad. I've given MA Larson (who was "in charge" of MLP for a few seasons) some good natured jokes regarding a base-breaking event in the series, but I'm not going to walk up to him and tell him to jump off a cliff for something I didn't like. It's the same in wrestling - I'm part of the "wait and see" crowd. I've dealt with my share of smarks outside of the board who complain but spend their money on events anyway. Don't have time for the negativity. I don't like Simpsons or Family Guy, but I'm not going to change my opinion on a person who likes it.... unless they try and shove it down my throat.

I don't bash entire fandoms but I will gladly mock the small minority of obsessive, creepy fanatics. especially when they do things like this: Can someone provide context for this video?? Well back in the early days in the series, there was a series of web comics that portrayed Celestia as a sexual deviant or "Molestia" as you will. That could be a reference to that or might have been the inciting incident that sparked them I don't know? But like the others I'm not going to click on the link to find out. As and aside said comics kind of caused a small schism among the fan base, and because of such have been long since discontinued as far as I know.

It's natural. People are lame. That's why we like to band together to look at other lamer people and go "see?" It makes us feel less lame, which is a course kinda a lame thing to do. Happens though.

I think the problem occurs when people become ridiculous about fandom. Case in point the Rick and Morty McD's situation. People acting like idiots because stores didn't get some sauce they don't even know what tastes like. Going in tirades I. Store and online swearing st people and basically making an asss of themselves. I feel like when you reach that level of ignorance you invite people to bash you and your fandom.
It all goes back to if you don't want to be made fun of don't do something that makes you look like an idiot.

Just thought of something that fuels this hate wagon.
Like, if you no longer even speak English and instead just favor a dialect of broken show references without being able to contextually link any of it to anything, you suck. Unless you're at like a con for that specific thing.
HAHAHAHA. HAHAHAHA. I said the thing just like on the show. HAHAHAHA...

There are always going to be assholes on the Internet. If it's gotten to the point that you are spending time watching their videos and reading their tweets of them hating on stuff, you are officially spending too much time online.

I prefer the guys who look at me in disgust when I say I’ve never seen Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones. It lets me know I’m the problem for not being interested in your stupid thing. But that's kind of the point. It doesn't interest you. That's cool. That doesn't mean it's stupid. It's probably stupid. My favorite show opens saying it's stupid, I stole my name on here off that show. Whatever it is, it might be meaningful to you, but, it's likely stupid.

Most of the time, it's not too hard to avoid the more annoying parts of a particular fanbase.
There are times when it gets a little out of control and takes over an entire board (eg : the short period of time where MLP was being shoehorned into EVERYTHING here before the Mods tightened up on it), or when you personally know people who just can't let things go (one of my RL friends has a friend who will ask you if you like his favorite shows/movies, and if you don't, he'll press you about why not, then try to guilt trip you and imply you're a bigot who is "rejecting the message" and oppressing him and other fans of it by dint of your disinterest or dislike).
But most of the time, you really don't have to float around in the circles of fanbases that you don't want to.

There are people who couldn't care less if you're making a fool of yourself or not. All they're focused on is you enjoying the uncool thing. That's more than enough for them to treat you like garbage. And I don't agree with shrugging and accepting there are going to be assholes online. If no one says anything or tries to challenge that, nothing will change. Any time someone stands up to the toxic BS that's so common on the internet, it's a step in the right direction. Taking the "high road " is never overrated, it's preferable to making people around you unhappy.

Ive never seen Rick and Morty but I've seen loads of merchandise and I think I might check it out. Is it a parody of the Back to the Future characters or something?

It's getting weird now for sure when other fandoms attack other fandoms.
You haven't lived until you've been accused of being an alt-right nazi for enjoying DC Comics.

Very broadly Rick is sort of a horrible person version of Doc, but that and the name Morty instead of Marty is about as far as that goes. It is on Hulu, and definitely worth watching.

It's annoying when you prefer how DC handles diversity over Marvel.
