Hating in general is lame. I've had people knock me most of my life for not watching sports. I've had people try to get me into a couple of the things we're forbidden to talk about here but I had zero interest in them. I've even been accused of supporting the other sides of things just because I didn't support their side / interests. It kind of sucks, but that's just how petty some people can be. It feels very much like a "You're either with me or against me" mentality. I don't know why there are so many people that feel challenged in some way when you don't follow or like something they're into. It's really bizarre to me.
I'm not a fan of golf. If it comes onto my television, I simply change the channel. I don't curse it. I don't put down the fans of it. It's just not for me. I can accept that something isn't meant for me. It would be nice if other people could too. I don't know if these people that push their interests are such huge fans that they imagine everyone would have to like what they like. Perhaps they're trying to spread the word and give their interests a bigger following. Maybe they just want someone else to talk about their interest with. It could be any of those things or something else altogether. Who knows? I just know that it comes off as pushy, annoying and judgmental at times. Some fandoms seem to be ok with that kind of behavior. That's the only problem that I have with them. There are so many things fighting for our attention and there are more choices than ever. There isn't even enough time to follow everything. People like what they like. As long as no one is getting bullied or hurt, live and let live.

The people that always get me is the ones who want to proclaim how loudly they hate this particular something because they don’t watch it and you shouldn’t as well
If you never heard of something or don’t have prior knowledge but is quick to jump on its neck when you hear something negative than it comes across that you’re just enabling your pre conceived notion of the product

I think a lot of the rabid overbearing fans of anything deserve the bashing they get. From the sci fi, anime, video game nerd fans, sports fanatic full kit larper to the crying and screaming fans for the latest souless manufactured musician simon cowel has pumped out.
People become so obsessed with stuff where it just creates media monopolies, not allowing anyone else to grow. Take star wars fans for example. We've got a ton of new movies coming out all this pointless merch. Its like havnt You had enough star wars in Your life? Can't we see some new sci fi? Give someone else a chance? But no come opening day they line up in droves head to toe in there dumb, plastic waste of money merchandise. Might as well just drape a sign over Your neck saying "IM A CONSUMER".
Then We get to the unhealthy parts of rabid fandom's were people become personally attached to fiction characters or people that don't even know You exist and just see You as a cash cow. We have cases of people pretending to be in a relationship with their " lolita Waifu" people self inserting themselves into love story fan fics and parents shelling out tons of money to see some pop star that the kid has an unnatural attachment with because it will "make them happy"
Granted I'm not telling anyone to not like a thing. But it some cases it goes too damn far and the producers of these things don't really care about You and they just see You as a giant cash cow, in our overly consumer driven money grubbing society. Save Your money and take a step back.

Oh thank god I'm not the only person that's happened to. "Yeah I'm pretty excited for Justice League." "How?! Zack Snyder is a fascist piece of shit and all of the characters are just representations of military fetishism. You should really feel bad if you actually enjoy that kind of garbage AND OTHERWISE-" "I just like Batman and Superman a whole lot and I think it looks fun." I haven't seen fans themselves do that but clickbait articles seem to f***ing love stoking that fire.

Doesn't bother me when it's targeting a certain sort in a fandom and not the entire base. Like even here with wrestling, when someone blasts on internet fans you damn well know the sort. Unless someone goes out of their way to specify that they mean every fan, I just assume they mean the crazies in a shorthand way.

I think hardcore Tolkien fans are irritating gits.
A good chunk are OK though and can admit that the books can be a bit of a ball ache to read

The problem is that fandom bashing is going to be more common when fandom stupidity get more mainstream attention. My parents who never used a computer or smartphone in their life, heard about the Rick and Mortly Mulan sauce controversy on the news. When Chris-Chan assaulted a gamestop employee over Sonic Boom, I had co workers talk about it and these are people who never heard of him before. The days of fandom stupidity is being contained to just YouTube or internet forum is no longer a thing. If someone does something stupid, the whole fandom is going to feel the effect of it.

There isn't even enough time to follow everything. People like what they like. As long as no one is getting bullied or hurt, live and let live. I am the same way. I have gotten flack in the past for my lack of interest in football, but I don't put fans of said sport down. I have also made reference multiple times to the whole Ghostbusters 2016 debacle that occurred last year, which apparently seems to still be going if you follow any Ghostbusters-related pages on Facebook. Anytime a post is made in reference to that film, whether it's the film itself, the Ghostbusters 101 series, or even the current series with the female cast, there is always the angry reaction and comments talking about how it was a bad film and whatnot. It was also pathetic when they posted pictures of cosplayers dressed as characters from that film or even fan art related to the film and the people commented on how the cosplayers have "bad taste" or how that film should not be liked or supported. Oh, and of course you also have those people insulting those who genuinely liked the film. And what is their purpose? It's mainly because they felt it was a bad film. Okay, I get that they didn't like the film, but they have this whole mentality that everyone is supposed to agree about the film and anybody who doesn't is an idiot. Hell, even with news about a new film in the works, whether it's a new live-action film or an animated film, the whole comment section becomes one big war zone. At the end of the day, it all depends on who liked the film or not, but people are just plain unhealthy about their obsession with hating that film.

Especially if you know they will go up in value. Hell I collect old video games and have some merchandise myself but I'm planning to sell it to put towards a house. I'm more talking about buying In excess and living beyond your means. Things with inflated self worth like amibos with scaplers ripping people off and peoples favourite e celebs showing off their hardly worth anything collections. Also things like funko pops are hardly gonna be worth anything in the future because most of it is mass produced, cookie cutter garbage. Granted this is speculation and a lot of My own opinion. But if You wanna collect things try and make sure your not being over charged for them and you know they will go up on value. But yeah if you see something You like and you can afford it by all means but it and support the product you love.

I don't hate fan bases. I think some are weird. Like the Rick and Morty stuff from last weekend was way over the top.
But you do you. I don't wanna police what you like or try to make you feel bad for liking it. It doesn't bother me any.

It's annoying when you prefer how DC handles diversity over Marvel. Aside from Miles Morales, I never liked Marvel's choices. Female Thor, Female Iron Man, Captain Marvel... But, going back to an earlier topic, I don't think I can ignore something. I'm a reactionary person by nature. I'll never insult your intelligence, but I'll happily insult the show. Sometimes you need to have the other side present, to show the Internet that its not a circle jerk. Because sometimes fandom's become echo chambers, and that's when crap goes down.

I know that in 2017, this might be an offensive thing to say, but I feel like it still needs to be said.
No matter how good a job you're holding down, wrapping up your identity primarily in media fandoms just doesn't seem healthy.

Why does it have to be about "circle jerking "? I don't understand how when I tried to make a thread about people unfairly picking on people for being in certain fandoms, the subject automatically went to fanbases that can't police themselves. We're all aware that fandoms can become toxic, but I don't see that as an excuse not to be nice to people even if they're part of one. Maybe I haven't run into enough obnoxious fans in my lifetime. But I've had far more experiences where I've either been called awful names merely for mentioning my interests to them, or where I've seen others get attacked and labeled as a weirdo or loser because they're part of a fandom with a terrible reputation. Can we at least agree that isn't right, and ought to change?

Oh thank god I'm not the only person that's happened to. Wait, what the f*** Oh yes, I would say why but I don't want to break the political rule (That's one of the reasons) but sometimes it's just typical fan war spiel. But I must admit it makes me laugh, The insults people come up with for liking/Disliking a certain thing are a joy at times. Wait, what the f*** Mmhm. It's been happening a lot lately to DC fans. Mostly wrapped around certain media outlets deciding that Zack Snyder's '300' is the reason for the alt-right in the first place. So it's like a chain of events. Thus...you like DC Comics. You must be some kind of asshole. This too Comic fandom has become a f***ing nightmare right now, And it's not just Fans vs Fans even writer/Editors have been at it.

You're shaming me out of giving you money for goods! Comic fandom has become a f***ing nightmare right now, And it's not just Fans vs Fans even writer/Editors have been at it. Oh it made me sick when the Black Panther showrunner made a comment about how Cyborg was a token play and wasn't black enough to fill the void. Can't even be happy to see brothers represented on the big screen in big productions. Noooo now it has to be a competition over HOW black the character is. Gross. Grossgrossgross.
