Not yet. The only significant returning villains so far are Catra and Shadow Weaver, who were exclusive creations of Filmation for the original cartoon. Maybe they're focusing more on establishing the more She-Ra centric folks first before bringing in the folks who are also identified as He-Man foes. Hordak was in there too someplace, with a voice that does NOT match the character, but not very much IIRC. They actually probably can't use the He-Man villains. The series is tied up in rights issues due to the movie in the works. If nothing else I know they can't use He-Man himself. Interesting that Hordak got in, then. I mean, he's THE She-Ra villain ultimately so I guess they were able to argue to get him, but maybe only him. The cartoon created pretty much ALL the female villains and I'd imagine that is this creative teams' greatest concern, which is quite fine by me. The Horde guys are known well enough, so let these other women shine in this show.

Random aside, is anyone else super confused by the trailer ending on a scene from the first season?

Couple clips are out there from some convention. Link in the spoiler - {Spoiler}
Even not being a fan of the original I love the original costumes turning up and the Catra transformation.

Season's up on Netflix now, just started watching. Kind of sucks it's only seven episodes but at least looking up a list of Voltron episodes that's apparently normal rather than being a bad sign for the show's future or something. Rather enjoying it thus far in either case, lot of good gags.
Though Frosta feels like a completely different character. Admittedly she didn't get a huge amount of screentime before anyway but it's still pretty jarring.

Just finished watching. Main thoughts are show is still pretty damn good, really finding its rhythm and I like that it's shifting into focusing more on the overarching plot, can't wait for season three. Lot of good character stuff and a lot of humor, fourth episode particular is probably the funniest thing the show has done, just hilarious throughout. For some complaints though... {Spoiler}They do need to work on ironing out some power imbalance issues still, since the Horde crews is painfully outmatched in terms on manpower and constantly failing and yet they really get a lot more focus this season than the heroes do. It really just makes you feel bad for Catra and crew constantly failing and want to see them win one every once in awhile.
Related note, man, could they make it much more obvious how bored they are with Adora herself? She does nothing this season. Pretty sure the subplot hanging out with Swift Wind in the second episode - which goes nowhere through the rest of the season - is the most she ever does because she spends the first one screwing up, third freaking out over ghosts, fourth being the straight man to everyone else's zaniess, fifth high, sixth missing for the vast majority of it, and seventh being a supporting character for Bow's story. It really feels like the writers are way more invested in the Horde and the other heroes than they are her. Hell, outside of very briefly in the fifth episode her and Catra never even directly interact this season. Which is probably why I think Catra / Scorpia might be starting to become my preferred couple, though not 100% on that one.
Also, man, that was a weak season finale. It's basically entirely filler up until the very last couple of scenes. It's not a bad episode at all but it is pretty underwhelming, especially with the hook setup in the one before it with Shadow Weaver. Still had a very good time with it but definitely took issue with those aspects.

About time they got some new villain blood in with the cast. Part of why it's so much easier to root for the Horde than the heroes for me is how hopelessly outmatched the Horde is.

Season 3's up on Netflix now. Only six episodes, pretty clearly just the second half of season 2, but have on the first episode now and really enjoying it. Feels like the show's heading in a darker direction.

Just finished the season and... For the most part pretty damn good, like that the series is trending darker. Some complaints though (whole season spoilers ahead). {Spoiler}First thing - feels like a lot of the supporting cast got shafted this time around. Very little Kyle and the rest of the Horde B-team, almost none of the other princesses, even Entrapta really didn't do much until the end of it. Guess fair's fair after how Adora herself did f***-all in season 2 but it's still disappointing.
They should've just waited until the next season to have Glimmer learn her mom is basically dead. Cramming it in in the last two seconds just made it feel like it had no impact, especially since Adora did absolutely nothing to actually explain what happened.
Also, Catra's character I think has hit a bit of a brick wall. She's still probably my favorite (though Scorpia might be in line for it by this point), but unless they start backpedalling hard toward redemption with her I really have no clue where to take the character at this point. There really isn't a lower low for her right now, and that's kind of sad with how awesome she is at the start of the season when she no longer gives a shit.
Curious to see what becomes of Horde Prime. I feel like this series is pretty overdue for a competent villain, Catra's like the closest to one the show has and yet she's still enough of a failure to constant angst over it.

Holy balls that was a season. More of like a movie than a season but that's Netflix shows for ya.

Question for those who watch:
I'm an old school MOTU fan from the 80's. I'm pretty familiar with She-RA too because my sister was into it. I'm not a hardcore animation guy, but can sometimes get into cartoons like JLU, Netflix Voltron, etc. Stuff that is more for all ages than just kids, and stuff with lots of action. The question is, might this show appeal to me, or is it more aimed at kids and animation junkies?

While family friendly, there is some more adult content there and it still goes darker, and the show while not quite as heavy on action as you'd think still has plenty of it. The first season is super comparable to the first season of Avatar both in terms of tone and the overall direction of the narrative if that gives you an idea of things, though feel like season 2 goes a little more zany then season 3 goes much darker. Though I'd probably at least get to the later end of season 1 to really judge it. In the middle of the season it does get a bit bogged down in a very breezy formula for a few episodes, but doesn't take too long to move out of it and other than, like, one or two episodes in season 2 it hasn't really returned to it.

So bumping this because I thought I should go through it since I have been meaning to and I’m in a weird place with it. I like the characters, I like the setting and I like the dynamics but something about the story at times didn’t quite click with me. Like, it’s hard to explain but especially for the season finales, some of the stuff doesn’t feel that earned as much as it wants to. I don’t know if I’ll go much into it as I feel like I still need to get my thoughts full on but...it’s weird. I do appreciate that the first season was used to introduce everything and the later seasons were just adding to that. But I also think Season 3 might as well had been Season 2 Part 2 rather than a full season but that’s just me. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}I’m not a shipper but if I were, I would write beautiful Scorpia and Seahawk fan fiction.

Being fair I'm pretty sure season 3 is literally season 2 part 2 in terms of production. Both are very short and together add up to the same length as season 1, and they kind of address some of the structuring flaws with each other, such as that Adora does f***-all in season 2, with very little involvement in most of the plots, while in season 3 she takes the focus again but a large chunk of the supporting cast just vanishes. But yeah, as for the narrative.... I'm mixed on it, though admittedly one giant issue this entire show has had for me is that I care way more about the Horde than I do the heroes. I think my favorite episodes are the ones that are more breezy but fall outside of the usual formula, like the strategy meeting one and the two with Adora tripping out.

Catra can have her own f*** everything group, it seems to suit her better.

Okay, actually, this conversation is making me kind of think more and more about something that's been simmering in the back of my head for awhile now that's a pretty major grievance with this show at this point. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Everything about Catra by now is a total mess.
Season 3 started out pretty great for her - her being completely disinterested in anything and not lettings things get to her, and that subsequently causing her to be much more competent than she ever was before, was a genuinely great direction for the character, and felt like there were good grounds to really do some interesting stuff with her as a tweener in this conflict.
And then you get her huge meltdown over the idea of being shown up by Adora again and it's just... I get it. Like, from a character perspective, I understand how this character's history led her to this point. That checks out.
But in terms of storytelling... Where the hell do you even go with this character at this point? You'd have to backpedal so hard to turn her face that I'm not even sure it's possible to do it in a decent way at this point, mostly because she's firmly established she doesn't give a damn about anybody but herself and that no one can talk the slightest bit of sense into her. While I do like her relationship with Scorpia a lot and in theory that could work, in practice she's blown her off time and time again now to where it'd make a lot more sense for Scorpia to just give up on her.
On the inverse though... Where do you go with her as a villain? She just broke all of reality and now Horde Prime is coming in to get in the way further. Where is the step up from there? Additionally she's basically a total jobber to Adora at this point - even when not in She-Ra form Adora's been firmly established as better than her and with that thrown in it's basically just a squash. There is no menace factor left in Catra at this point and no further step down for her in terms of how petty and destructive she can be, so there's no further story to tell with her as the villain.
Then there's just the general ickiness that Hordak and Shadow Weaver are basically her abusive parents and Shadow Weaver in particular is majorly responsible for how completely f***ed in the head she is by now, and yet both of them are being played much more sympathetically than she is, to the point that the narrative kind of seems to be trying to actively justify Shadow Weaver treating her so terribly compared to Adora and constantly exploiting her inferiority complex, like in how if she hadn't played on it to pull her jail escape trick then the world would've been destroyed when Hordak opened the portal. It's just not a good look, the way the abusive parent who's the root cause of all of Catra's hangups is being depicted as being morally superior to her.

Who else came thinking there was news about it somehow tying in with the new MOTU series?

Like, it didn't make much sense to me she'd still want validation from Hordak considering she literally had everything she wanted and worked for it and was appreciated, even if it's because she threatened and fought her way there. The fact she came crawling back (because she's a cat! Ha!) just for some weird validation and, like you said, to imply she can't leave her adopted abusive parents or get rid of her inferiority complex it was a bit unsettling and basically pushed her character back a bit.
Like, I get the story revolves around Adora and Catra and that's how it ended (Kind of) but...I don't know, her being the person that f***s stuff up for everyone occasionally seems like a more fun direction.
