I have always had my steak medium and I always liked it that way, but recently I thought about perhaps trying other levels of doneness that I might find even tastier.
Here's hoping that perhaps your comments might help me decide on which one to try out next time.

I used to only eat super well done steak (like, it had black crunchy bits) because the idea of eating bloody, raw meat freaked me out. Over the years I've slowly worked on that; now I find throwing a steak in a sizzling hot pan for a few minutes on each side then letting it rest so it's caramelized on the outside but still pink inside is great.
(Honestly, I don't know how I spent all those years chewing away at burnt, dry steaks.)

Medium rare is my preference overall, though I can go rarer. (At home, I mean. I am less inclined to do that with a restaurant).
When someone goes for well done, I do wonder if they just buy cheap steaks. The more done the meat, the less difference there's really going to be, since it just gets tougher the further you go. At that point, go ahead and get the cheap stuff.

Depends on the cut, really. Prime rib I prefer medium-rare, while something like sirloin I'll do medium to medium-well.

Rare at home.
Restaurants can’t do it properly 99% of the time so I’ll get a medium rare if I go out to eat.

Medium, with just a pinch of salt to enhance the natural flavor of the meat. No other seasoning or steak sauce (unless it's really lousy, flavorless steak in which case A-1 can save it).

When I go out I order medium rare because anything less done is like playing the lottery. For Prime Rib I say "The rarest cut you have". That tends to work well. At home I get my pan searing hot, sear both sides of the streak for about a minute each, then let it sit on my plate for a couple minutes. Normally ends up having crispy sides with a pink transition to red interior.

Yeah, rare. Sorry for the misunderstanding, went by what the doneness are called here in Germany. Germans call rare steak English? There has to be a story behind that. The most common theory has been that this type of doneness in Germany is associated with roast beef, one of England's national dishes, which is usually served rare. That's why English has become the German expression for ordering a steak rare.

There's two answers for this. Medium rare or done poorly.
Also people who have sauce on their steak should be forced to eat leather

For those saying well done, why are you even bothering to eat steak?

For those saying well done, why are you even bothering to eat steak? These are the same people that see bikers in leather jackets and get hungry.
