Well the higher-ups just don't tolerate uncool people. Like Bayley. What a nerd she is for liking wrestling growing up. Just look at her nerd face and her sexy nerd butt and her voluptuous nerd bosoms. Would you wanna hang around someone like that?

It’s like this on Indy’s to. The amount of shit I get because I’d wear a WWE shirt backstage before a show is absurd. That happened to me a few times too. Went to training in a Nexus t-shirt - "You're such a mark!" Turned up to a show wearing a Daniel Bryan t-hirt - "You're such a mark!" Yeah? I am. So?

Had this happen to me in Jiu Jitsu, saw a guy in a Reebok fight kit and thought, "Heh, what a mark." Then I noticed he was very muscular. Turned out to be a UFC fighter wearing his own fight kit.

Because people who look at it as business tend to be the smart ones. Like Brock.

Also, I imagine that people who’ve been there for a while have seen enough bs that some new guys doe-y eyes amazement for the product would annoy them.

Had a similar story but with ACB instead of the UFC. That learned me good.

What kinda position were you looking for? I don't even remember, it's been over 15 years since I applied. I believe it was in their tape ops division, possibly on production, I can't even remember. All I know is, I probably would have ended up hating it, who knows. It's a tough job, either you're on the road constantly, or you're in Stamford, working in one of the highest cost towns in America working in a place that probably isn't known for being generous to it's workers. Living my entire life in or near Stamford, I know many former and even some current employees. The rumor is true, do NOT say you are a big fan of the product.

One more reason why Brock is correct to treat this business with contempt.

How weird would that be in real sports? "You're a mark for Bret Favre? Don't let anyone know!" LeBron once talked about having a photo shopped picture of him guarding Michael Jordan as his phone lock screen. What a mark!

The dumbest part about this is that when it's convenient for storytelling, they'll paint a babyface out as a huge mark. Whether it's John Cena as a kid wearing a home-made belt, or Mick Foley cutting promos in his house as Dude Love. They love to say "These superstars are just like you!".

I'm convinced that Jamison is exactly how Vince sees wrestling fans.

I'm convinced that Jamison is exactly how Vince sees wrestling fans. Which is strange because I mean HHH being a massive NWA Mark isn't exactly a secret.

Look how HHH booked Bayley and her portrayal of being a fan. It was an inspirational positive. When Vince used the same story with her now it's presented as an embarrassing negative. Just two dudes with almost polar views on the business.

I think it might an impressions thing; Triple H wearing his fandom on his sleeve and collecting memorabilia came after he'd already married Steph, so by then he was family and liked by Vince. When one of a whole fleet of interchangeable employees and writers do it, it puts "They're a mark" into his head as their sole personality trait, and Vince doesn't like marks so it immediately positions him against them. With how many people the man must meet and interact with in his day-to-day work life that aren't "important" enough to commit to memory that sort of snap judgement is going to count for a hell of a lot more for them than it will for his son in law.

Recruitment 101 - research your potential employer and learn the company history, ethos and culture before your interview.
WWE - nah.

It'd baffling especially for jobs like the creative team or working for the magazine and website. Surely being a fan is something WWE would want. Someone who knows the wrestlers and history. Actually, I think that's where it makes the most sense. I know people in other creative fields have talked about how they've had to fire people because it quickly became obvious the person wanted the job to be around a company or individuals they are fans of rather than actually work.

So, the more passionate they are, the less professional? ....we are talking about passionate employees and not unmotivated bums or stalkers, right? I'm surprised people here didn't say "you never want to be like Bret and forget your place. If vince wants you to bark like a dog or make fun of your bells palsy, you better accept it. Don't be like Bret and actually think any of this matters because it doesn't. Anyone can be champion, belts and prestige mean nothing. I don't want to have to screwjob you as well buddy, and by that i mean get your ass fired"

So, the more passionate they are, the less professional? Not inherently but I can easily see why it can be seen as a red flag. Being passionate about wrestling/WWE and being passionate about doing a job in WWE aren't necessarily the same thing. You don't have to be a bum or a stalker to get too caught up in trying to shoot the shit with a former wrestler you grew up watching when you're supposed to be doing something else.
