I don't even remember, it's been over 15 years since I applied. I believe it was in their tape ops division, possibly on production, I can't even remember. All I know is, I probably would have ended up hating it, who knows. It's a tough job, either you're on the road constantly, or you're in Stamford, working in one of the highest cost towns in America working in a place that probably isn't known for being generous to it's workers. Living my entire life in or near Stamford, I know many former and even some current employees. The rumor is true, do NOT say you are a big fan of the product. I could've sworn that there were several wrestlers who got upset with others who worked for the company who didn't particularly follow wrestling, didn't care about it, and only used it as a platform to potential modeling or acting gigs. Didn't Miz also get hazed severely because the boys, other higher ups, and writers felt he was just a reality tv star and didn't care nor have a passion for the business? Sounds to me like the WWE is ran by a bunch of hypocrites in my opinion.

Recruitment 101 - research your potential employer and learn the company history, ethos and culture before your interview. WWE - nah. I’d imagine they would like to hear all that on an interview, but only as long as it’s their PR bullshit they are hearing back at them. . "Why sir, Jesse McMahon inspired me to be the man I am today" "How is that?" "When he sent a telegram in 1947 that indirectly created twitter" "Please explain" "Philanthropy STOP Good PR STOP"

Only invited back when Undertaker told him Benoits dead and get back in here. Benoit is a mark that is for sure for this business. Too bad no one set him straight.

I just don't understand what's wrong with having fans of the product? You don't hear about Marvel or Disney hating on their writers, producers, set designers, or visual effects personnel for growing up loving their material and having a passion for it. In fact they absolutely encourage it and create an atmosphere for others to thrive in.
Yet WWE hates anyone who grew up as a fan? That's just all kinds of backwards. Why not appreciate potential employees who grew up with your product as they would be the first to want to see it succeed and help make the business a lot of money?

One time I met Daryl Palumbo from Glassjaw and told him I loved his music. He was like “haha, seriously?! I just wrote those songs to get fans and make money. Get over it, kid.”

I know I'm late to the party here, but this has always baffled me. Do they think someone being a fan of the product will skew their ability to make important decisions or something? Because generally speaking, I've only ever heard this rumor about people working in office positions. With on-screen talent, they seem to either encourage it or they're just indifferent, depending on the talent.

I'm pretty sure I lost a job with WWE when I started out the interview by saying I felt I was qualified for the job because I was a huge fan of the product, and knew it very well. It was an awkward interview that I honestly wasn't ready for (phone interview that actually woke me up that I wasn't expecting, I was very unprepared for it) and I could feel the air went out of it almost immediately. Even though it was my dream job at the time, and I really needed a job at the time, I probably dodged a bullet after talking to one of my friends who actually worked for them for a while. What you should have done is the opposite of what your instincts tell you like George Costanza. Kevin Dunn: Ah, Mr. McMahon, sir. There's someone here I'd like you to meet. This is Tex Ferguson. He's one of the applicants. Mr. McMahon: Nice to meet you. Tex: Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. In the past twenty years you have caused myself, and the wrestling fans, a good deal of distress, as we have watched you take our beloved wrestlers and reduced them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego! Mr. McMahon: Hire this man!

I'm going to play devils advocate and try and see it from the wrestlers point of view.
When you are in a locker room you are peers and not fans. Backstage is meant to be a "safe space" so to speak away from being harassed by fans where the performers can get ready to perform, being hounded backstage for a photo or autograph by someone who is meant to be your contemporary when you are trying to get in the mindset to go and speak/wrestle in front of thousands would probably get pretty annoying fast.

Enzo learned this the hard way.

It's always the guy who did everything they could to win the fake titles like their life depended on it like Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash that call others marks too. Once you've given up a title because being told you'd lose it made you lose your smile or you booked yourself to win then you are the biggest marks of all.
