Roman is over in terms of getting a response which is all they want at this point
But yeah even as one of his fans you can't argue the hoops they jump through for this man and the sickening thing is they still bitch out on giving him the full rub (see Lesnar at Summerslam) see we end up in the same BS circle

Its the opposite. He is the top guy, and has clearly been for years now. You are making up things that aren't there because you don't like him. He is very obviously over and that shows week to week. Saying "his reactions vary", "they give him garbage lines", and "wins a lot" are all just projections making stuff up? Come on man, what show are you watching where the crowd is always super behind Roman and on which planet is "Meat Shack" a good line? He reminds me a lot of Ruthless Pessimism, a user that was pro-Cena & pro-Roman to extreme levels where everyone deserved to be beneath them.

Roman's "over" is the modern version of a Conway Pop or X-Pac Heat. Is this the part where we make up terms because Roman isn't what you think a top guy should be? The highest merch seller in the company is not "X-Pac Heat." Theres a severe level of delusion concerning Roman here. I get it...you're a fan. You're (seemingly) defending him and his booking. That's cool. That's your opinion. No worries there. My greater point is; Yeah...he's over. Sure. BUT, my dude, those boos he gets every week aren't ironic cool guy booing. He's (mostly) legit getting booed. And that's a serious problem when he's supposed to the (Non-McMahon, Non-Levesque, Non-Rousey) Face of your multi-billion dollar, publicly traded company.

I think Strowman will go back to being babyface monster Strowman when this is all over. To their credit they're sort of cultivating the kinds of responses to Reigns that they're looking for, might not really be helpful to those around them but I'm amused by the craftiness of it all. Not even close. He’ll probably just either make Romans life hell before potentially targeting AJ or toil around in the mid card when the rematches end. I have zero faith this heel turn will end anytime soon or will work in his favor.

No cemented and successful top star would need his big crowning feud ender match to have shenanigans and fake promises tacked onto the end of it just to keep your paying audience in the building and not shitting on the match. That's just an objective truth and you actually have to be a gimmick poster or a troll to not be able to concede something about that is f***y.

This isn’t some new booking tactic they do, I mean look at how many people turned heel on Hogan back in the day. It’s only different now because of Reigns being so reviled in the top face role and, let’s be honest here, a greater availability of means for fans to be more vocal about it than there were in, like, 1989. I mean these methods got Cena some flack too, but I think the biggest issues come in a) the form of the relative desire of the audience to see the face in that role and all their favorites turned heel to be fed to him 2) a general exhaustion with this same pattern after we had this same struggle with Cena for a decade c) the audience being "smarter" to these tricks now in an era where the stories are being looked at more critically as stories. I said this recently in another thread, probably deserves it’s own one... I don’t think WWE have ever gotten the grips of how the growth of the internet, social media and the near-instant availability of wrestling news and information has smartened up their fanbase. They’re way, WAY more intelligent and genre-savvy, insisting on deeper, fleshed-out characters and stories, not just the same old tropes, but also more vocal in terms of who deserves to be featured, and not just for storyline reasons. I get the sense that WWE have put that vocal fanbase in the “too hard basket” and are just gonna keep doing their thing until it literally stops making money.

To me it seems like a precursor to whatever Shield guy is gonna turn and if Braun is apart from Roman I just can't see them committing to him as heel. He's heel for completely utilitary reasons right now.

I'm probably the biggest Roman fan here although after WM I'm less inclined to defend him, but I'm not sure you're going to win this argument. If anything, plenty of users are likely to put him in their ignore lists. This place has an ignore function?

Oh absolutely; it ties into how out of touch the people running the company are. Like obviously all the "silly old Vince" jokes are fun, but in general I think they're just completely removed from the actual pop culture landscape and while they pay lip service to social media because it allows them to sell ads and show engagement numbers to investors, they don't actually consider the deeper implications in what that interaction means or how it plays out. They're not writing smarter, so instead the closest they come to it is Road Dogg arguing on twitter with people about why they're bad for not liking his shitty story about Becky Lynch turning heel that proves nobody in charge understands the complaints about their show or how to tell stories.

Considering Meltzer's reporting is generally taking as a fact, especially when it comes to this aspect of WWE, we can't pretend it must be wrong because it's something many people here don't want to hear. Styles, Cena and Rusev's shirts are more colorful than Roman's, that's what you notice them more.

And even in a typically anti-Reigns crowd like Toronto, you could spot a couple of SHIELD shirts and pro-Roman shirts.
