It's not that hard to outsell people when you have more merch than they do. They used to do that with Cena all the time.

If he is the highest merchandise why is that every time they have some kind of a top ten I see tons of AJ Styles merchandise tons of Cena merchandise and even rusev Day t-shirts in the top 10 but not Roman how do you explain that Meltzer has been reporting Reigns was #2 behind Cena for a while and within the last week has said he is now #1. Considering Meltzer's reporting is generally taking as a fact, especially when it comes to this aspect of WWE, we can't pretend it must be wrong because it's something many people here don't want to hear. Styles, Cena and Rusev's shirts are more colorful than Roman's, that's what you notice them more. Well, was it said that Reigns overtook Cena, or just that Reigns is #1? Because if a dude who's been off TV for four months may have cooled down enough to slide down the rankings a bit, but the idea that Reigns's spot wasn't all that far from a bunch of other guys--in comparison to Cena who was far and away outselling everyone--then it's not really a gain for Roman so much as it is a decline for Cena. I'm just not entirely sure we've seen some huge swell of Roman merch overtaking everything else when the audience hasn't really budged on him very much; if he's still in that same position of being slightly higher than a handful of other top guys with all the work and effort put into him then like. Yeah he's got fans and stuff is happening, but the diminishing returns versus when they did it with Cena already set a really bad precedent.

Roman's dominance at the top is actually longer than Triple H's Reign of Terror. Roman's also 33 years old too. He'll be doing this for at least 10 more years if he stays healthy. It just makes you wonder how many people will be sacrificed before Romey Rome sits the boots down. It's not even Roman's fault in this case, hell not even the writers either. It's all Vince and the officials. I've seen what the writers say about the company, some current writers even make comments towards things. One writer I always hear on a podcast and every once in a while he makes comments towards things. They know what fans want. They're just deadlocked as to what they can do and what they can't do. Some shit's just stupid though. Becky's turn is obviously stupid. Strowman's turn is dumb too. Vince and these officials don't get it. Like, this man didn't even face Reigns in a match before he decided to turn. He basically bitched out and decided he needed 2 friends before testing himself. Shield's too strong. It makes you wonder how long he's been planning this because the guy was acting dumb at Summerslam, he was acting dumb on Raw and now he realized he did this.
That's Strowman after that triple powerbomb last week. Dude was having nightmares of seeing those Ryback videos after 1 attack. They shook this man's soul. This man was screaming at night like he had dreams of seeing Biggie without his glasses lmao.

A lot of the rest are going to be calling for the writers to be thrown into the streets and for Roman to be instantly future endeavored, blackballed from the entire industry, and eternally Benoited from the history books. And they won't get what they want, obviously, but it won't stop them from demanding it.

Everyone sells merch. The question is the ranking. If there's some side item on wweshop like keychains, dog collars and stuff like that and there's only 8 or so wrestlers you can get...Roman will be one of them. You can get a Roman shirt, hat, vest, keychain, dog leash...then after using the bathroom wipe your ass with Roman Reigns toilet paper. If it's that time of the month, I'm sure you can get some Big Dog tampons too. Lets say Roman kept all that, but then Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles, and Daniel Bryan also had all of those same items. Would he still be #1? I highly doubt it.

About the merch thing, and I know this is purely anecdotal evidence, when you go to a live show, do you see a lot of people wearing Reigns gear. I haven’t been to a WWE event in a long time, but I went to a few during Cena’s heyday, and you couldn’t walk five feet without seeing a kid in a Cena shirt. And I’m just curious what the scene is pope these days.
I’m not saying he doesn’t sell merch. I’m just asking what that means compared to the previous top guy.

It's true, but.. that's been the deal for what four years now? There's an option. Yup. That's pretty much it. Like Cena was before him, Roman Reigns is "their dude," and, yes, that means that everyone else will be sacrificed to him, just like it happened with Cena. Roman is the Superhero Vince wants as the centerpiece of his company, and like the saying goes, "Like or don't like it, learn to live with it, because it's going to be here for a loooonnng time. (Wooooo!!!)" It doesn't matter how many of these threads get started every week. It doesn't matter how much you boo, or leave early, or whatever you think is going to make WWE listen to you (after tossing them tons of your money). They do hear you. They just don't give a shit. They already got your money. In their minds, why should they listen to you? So, you may as well enjoy NXT and the great workers on SD and RAW that are going to steal the show in the midcard. That's why they're all there, to keep you tossing money at this company, because as far as that top spot is concerned....it's Roman's, and NOTHING is going to change that....other than a major drug pop or career ending injury.

Roman sells mechandise, and that’s great.
That doesn’t just make his booking stupid hot wet garbage. It doesn’t make up for the dumb decisions over the years and the crowd hating him. That’s not trying to downplay his talent, cause he has it. But you can’t just go “well he’s selling t-shirts and they got 4 trillion dollars from Saud Arabia and Fox so It’s sooo we’re golden” lmao no it’s not.

That’s likely what gives the top sellers that boost over those who primarily get their sales from the website.

It's three and a half years of pushing the guy. It's not worth getting worked up for anymore. For whatever reason, Vince sees him as the guy and is going to do whatever he can to keep forcing that narrative.

Not watching/not giving them money is really all you can do since there’s no way you can complain Roman away.

But at the same time you're taking the most hyperbolic voice in the argument--a minority even in the "Call it a failure and give up, he sucks" camp of criticizing Roman--and it might be 'a lot' by sheer number of people involved across a fandom of millioons, but saying "not many people are going to agree" is a pretty big leap. The majority opinion is not that Roman should be thrown out into the street and I don't think it's really helping anyone's case to talk about it like it is.

This isn’t some new booking tactic they do, I mean look at how many people turned heel on Hogan back in the day. It’s only different now because of Reigns being so reviled in the top face role and, let’s be honest here, a greater availability of means for fans to be more vocal about it than there were in, like, 1989. Let's be real honest too, while most of the fanbase can by in large separate the man from the character these days and appreciate what he's done for the business, it isn't like there weren't many popular faces and popular acts sacrificed at the altar of John Cena. Going honestly deeper into his run as the top guy than any top guy before him.
