Low-Ki is legit one of my favourite wrestlers. Was gutted to see his treatment in WWE and I truly believe if he was part of NXT nowadays, he would have become immensely popular and had a better run on the main roster like Bryan, Zayn, Owens, Balor and Rollins before him. Maybe. But as soon as he would've hit the main roster and treated like so many have, he would have pulled an Austin Aries and bolted. By “pull an Austin Aries”, you mean get sacked, right? Cause him and Low-Ki were both let go after being told creative had nothing for them.

I'll mirror everyone else here and say him being managed by LayCool was the biggest opportunity he had to make a big splash in mainstream wrestling but he was too blind and pigheaded to see the long term benefits. Having Layla and THE UNDERTAKER'S WIFE in your corner kayfabe is only going to produce dividends the more months/years you stay with WWE but Kaval Low Ki-ed himself right out of that spotlight.

Much later he started saying he was let go and the company wanted him to say he quit. Considering Low Ki's history i'm willing to bet he quit.

They have a habit of letting guys go and then using the “creative had nothing for you” excuse... I mean how would you not be able to have anything for Austin f***ing Aries? If he DID quit I can’t say I blame him. Especially if that story about Dusty Rhodes telling him to dance like a chicken in a meeting was true.

At first I sympathised with him because it looked like a burial, but then I realised that Big Baby Kaval with Laycool as his mommies might have worked. He should have carried a bottle around with him, then cried when Laycool refused to breastfeed him.

I could totally see creative not having much for him beyond being a solid hand in 205 Live. Way I’ve always heard it is he was told that was the plan, and asked to be able to try his luck elsewhere. As far as WWE splits it sounded like a really amicable one.

I dunno how far the LayCool thing could have gone, since he was a popular face, and LayCool were the biggest heels in the women’s division at the time, and turning either would have been awkward and probably would have messed with the chemistry.

Didn’t he legit give Ziggler a concussion in their IC title match which caused him to be jobbed out until he asked for his release.

The whole “nobody knows these non-WWE guys” thing died out ages ago. I remember people telling me nobody would know who AJ Styles was and he got a massive pop on his debut. We don’t know what goes on backstage but I imagine it was due to Aries’ attitude and nothing to do with his work/lack of star quality/look. The “creative has nothing for you” excuse makes no sense when you’ve got guys like Slater, Axel, The Colons, R-Truth etc doing nothing for years and yet still on the roster.

And if Aries had been content with the position of “solid hand on 205 Live” the same way those guys are content with... well, just being a part of the roster, he’d probably still be there right along side them. He felt like he was worth more and decided to bet on himself.

Especially if that story about Dusty Rhodes telling him to dance like a chicken in a meeting was true. Thing is, usually when WWE says creative has nothing for them, they just let them go. None of this "Say you quit" stuff, and for a guy who burns bridges and promoters like Low Ki does I don't have any trouble buying that he'd bail on them because he wasn't in that immediate moment getting much, while it's a bit harder to swallow a) that WWE would ask him and only him specifically to lie about saying he quit when they really fired him 2) that a guy with as much history of dickbaggery as Low Ki would go along with that for no reason, when he could easily have milked sympathy out of the immediate chance to say WWE tried to pressure him into lying about it to save face.

A lot of people suggested at the time they use that as a vehicle for LayCool to split, with Layla and Kaval as the faces and McCool staying heel. And given that McCool was only a few months away from retiring as it turned out, it could have been something legitimately on the table as an idea.

They were also teasing a Layla/Kaval pairing. Rib or not, the pairing was working in his favor. I always said that after winning NXT Season 2, his job-out was the biggest middle finger WWE has ever given to the fans. And word was that Vince literally threw a tantrum the night he won. Then it comes out that he's a headcase and a half, and you think Vince may have been right on something. Well, you know what they say about broken clocks. Seriously, it's amazing how often Vince drops the ball on the right person; "They wasted Damien Sandow!" Turns out, Sandow is trash left to his own devices. "They wasted Mr. Kennedy!" Ken Anderson ends up one of the most annoying people in professional wrestling. "WWE shouldn't have buried Kaval!" Turns out, Kaval's a whole cornball fried in crazy.

Remember Akebono? Sumo turned wrestler?
Well Low Ki tried to stiff him. Akebono then injured Low Ki.
When keeping it real goes wrong.

I think you mean only a few months away from giving us the funniest bit of post-production ever. "LOSER LEAVES! ... wwe" still makes me laugh.
