The online multiplayer takes me out of it completely. Not my thing at all. After my shitty experience with the MapleStory community a long time ago, I'm the same way.

As you're new to the series, I'd highly recommend Fallout 4 as a great starting point. You've got a fantastic World waiting to dig into there, complete with all the DLC. As it's been out a few years now I'd bet you can find a great deal on the whole thing too. If you enjoy it, Fallout 76 will still be there, but you may bypass the inevitable teething problems it'll have on launch. I'm a big Fallout fan, but the hype for Fallout 76 isn't doing it for me right now. I'm going to wait it out and see what people are making of the game a few months from now. As I said in the original post my main draw to the game was the location. I was looking forward to playing in an area I’m very familiar with. Just wish it has a single player mode, I would’ve bought 3 copies!

Playing the BETA now and.....
This game is really cool! It’s Fallout. You’ll eventually run into people, but the ones I’ve encountered have been cool. It feels just like Fallout, not the hollow shell of Fallout (ala Elder Scrolls —> Elder Scrolls Online)
I’m not even missing the NPC’s honestly.

Everything I've heard is that they took the least interesting part of 4(the base building non-sense), and built an entire game out of that mechanic, and made it an MMO. So....pass.

Because the characters and factions you meet are one of the main things I enjoy about Fallout. Take that away and it just doesn't seem like it'll work. I've heard the world is huge though, which is a major positive since I love exploring the ruined buildings in Fallout. But again, that falls back to NPCs because you had no idea what would be inside the cave or building. A gang of ghouls, a crazy guy in a party hat, a bunch of raiders, some soldiers on a mission, a bunch of kooky robots, a gang modeling themselves on Elvis etc.

It is a shame, but I don’t think it’s going to be a huge deal. Between dead NPC notes and holotapes I was getting a lot of context. Maybe they can get DLC/patched into the game? I do think it would be better with them, but I didn’t miss them in my 2 hours today.

Honestly, I think it still may down the road... I didn’t notice today though. And I didn’t even have a running buddy for most of the day... just me the wilderness and the notes. I enjoyed every minute I spent with the game.

I have really enjoyed it thus far. Now, I can't relate to NPC's because this is the first Fallout game that I've ever played. The only reason I bought it was because it is set in West Virginia and I wanted to support a product using my home state as a setting. However, I have liked the game. It hasn't been too glitchy for me or not that I have really noticed. My main complaint with the game is the location of certain places. It has the New River Gorge Bridge going over Flatwoods when they aren't remotely close to each other. But I have zero complaints with the actual gameplay.

Well, everything looks like it's going alright with the Fallout 76 Beta, and whoops, it's gone. kotaku.com/fallout-76-bug-accidentally-redownloads-entire-50gb-bet-1830114076I hate this, tbh. This game looks like it could be fun, but so much is going wrong with it. I'm seriously reconsidering picking it up. I've got it preordered as one of the last games I got under Amazon Prime's old preorder deal where they take 20% off of the game, but now I'm wondering if it's worth that discount if the game could end up unplayable on release.

That's a bad bug, even by Bethesda's standards

Fallout 76 looks like one of those free to play MMOs that spams you out the yin-yang to buy crap... except you have to pay for the damn thing.

So, how is it?
I almost clicked buy the other day since I enjoy Fallout games, until I saw the PS store was full of stuff like "Thousand atmoms" and other in-game currency which immediately put me off. I don't buy Pay to Win. And seeing in-game currecny immediately made me think this is gonna be pay to win.
Even if it's just used to buy cosmetics puts me off enough. I've paid over $50 for the game, plus, the PS+ subscription and now I'm expected to cough up cash if I want my character to wear something different.
Plus I noticed that the bonus edition or whatever it's called says "this version includes power armor" which was enough of a red flag for me to suggest that you can't find power armor in the standard version? Unless it's just badly worded.

Loved Fallout 4, loved New Vegas, just can't get on board with this. I loved having that sense of loneliness and unpredictablity that was in the single player games, and I agree with another post that exploring abandoned buildings and not knowing what you'd find was brilliant.
The things I hated about 4 were the base building and the constant need to "help a settlement" (to the extent I joined the Brotherhood of Steel). This looks like it's full of them - and I also agree that microtransactions send up a huge red flag. The only time I've paid for that was to unlock the Predator gear in Ghost Recon Wildlands so I could make my character look like Schwarzenegger.

Also, here's a major spoiler, regarding how to end the game. {Spoiler} The goal is to detonate the nuke, so you can draw forth a scorchbeast queen, so you can kill it. After that, you linger as long as possible before the rads kill you or something.
Yes... this means that in order for you to conclude the story, you should blow up West Virginia.

The currency you buy is for cosmetic stuff only. You can also gain it by doing objectives in game. You get other clothes to wear as well by just playing the game. Different than Fallout 4, you can actually wear the clothing over your armor so you get the appearance and still get the benefits from the armor. The deluxe edition or whatever it's called doesn't have power armor, it has a special skin for power armor. I played for about 4 hours today and didn't encounter any other players. Most of what I did was just exploring random buildings. I haven't done any base building yet - maybe you do it later in the game. It's very survival oriented. You have to keep yourself fed and hydrated. All the raw cooking material and prepared food and drinks spoil as well. The leveling system is different and interesting. The scarcity of items so far has kept things interesting. I'm sure that will change as I level. Lots of holotapes to learn about the inhabitants of the places you're exploring. I'm surprised how much I'm actually enjoying the game. I only wish it would be cross-platform so I could play with my brother. How does the lack of NPCs effect the game? Because I loved the unpredictability of exploring. Wandering into a school and getting ambushed by Raiders, exploring a hospital and finding a squad of soldiers who need help, meeting a supervillain in an ant costume, finding a gang modeled on Elvis etc. Do they still manage to give exploration a sense of excitement and unpredictability?

So many reviewers I've seen on YouTube are tearing this game apart Yeah seems like one I'm gonna skip. Not having any NPCs has to be one of the dumbest decisions in gaming history. Seems like it's a game killer.

It debuted in the U.K. with a measly 28% of the first-week sales of Fallout 4.
Safe to say this one's a bust.
