I saw absolutely nothing of this on social media or reddit. Nobody cares about The Simpsons anymore.

Just end the show - if your life is that bothered/offended by a cartoon no one can win Get rid of Apu and a couple of other ethnicity diverse characters all of a sudden you will have the very same members of generation offended whinging that the show is racist because ethnic minorities are under represented. So you CANNOT win. The Simpsons is a comedy show, it rips the pee out of every single person, type of person, ethnicity going... it’s inclusive even. The reality is the same people moaning about Apu, if he disappears tomorrow will be up in arms that the show is not fairly representative of Indian migrants to the USA.. Apu, a guy who owns his own successful business, is funny, unlucky in love, has dreams and aspirations... yet like EVERY Simpsons character is the butt of a joke occasionally... ITS A COMEDY SHOW !!!! You can win by having animated characters of color voiced by people of their same portrayed race.

As a black voice actor, I think this is excessive.
The Simpsons was built around 3 adult male actors playing virtually every recurring adult male role, in an era where the talent pool was extremely small and highly versatile voice actors of color were not yet prominent. The show is a relic and this rarely happens anymore. It's a weird slippery slope for me. Are we now to recast or write out Dr. Hibbert, Carl, Lou the cop and Drederick Tatum in favor of a "designated black actor"? That would be patronizing to me as both a performer and a former fan of the show. I think they're well performed and funny characters. Are Dr. Nick and Bumblebee Man now problematic too?
I that know a lot of Indians actually weren't bothered by or even liked Apu, but it doesn't matter now. My efforts are focused on diverse representation in newer, more relevant shows with roles that can be defined and made iconic by their initial actors. For many years, The Simpsons has unrecognizable compared to the show I once loved and has never been less culturally influencial than it is now. I don't feel this action improves what I consider a mediocre show, that I want to see continue dying its slow, agonizing death.
This will also be used to help fuel the toxic "Well then, black actors should only be able to audition for black roles!" narrative that nearly ruined my career because of how few opportunities I was initially given.

ITS A COMEDY SHOW !!!! You can win by having animated characters of color voiced by people of their same portrayed race. By that logic, Steve Blum, Beau Billingslea, Johnny Yong Bosch, Phil Lamarr, Stephanie Sheh and a whole lot of other animated actors should be blacklisted and the thousands of characters they've voiced redubbed because they don't fit the race of the people their voicing.

I can’t even recall the last time Apu was on the show. They "quietly" retired the character in season 29.

Funny things is, almost nobody complains about Connie from Steven Universe and she's an Indian character who's voiced by a white girl.
So, yeah I don't think the problem is a white guy voicing an indian character, but a white guy voicing an ethnic stereotype.

The best option will of course to find an Indian actor who can still pull off the voice of Apu and sound more accurate. Sadly though, there's the option that they make him a background character and the Simpsons do all their shopping at Try-N-Save.

Korra's based off The Inuit and nobody complains about her being voiced by a white female either

Does this mean the Kwik-e-Mart at Universal has to go? I'm stunned that there's still Marvel rides there too (yes it all ties in together, obviously...)

That contract was made long ago, heck, they even have performers dressed as Marvel superheroes walking around for meet-and-greets (though when I went a few years ago, I think the only characters there were the X-Men, and this was before the FOX deal).

They'll have a character who we havent seen in ages take over Apu's job like Eddie, Scott Christian, or Captain Lance Murdoch.

So...has this been a problem almost the entire time, or just in the past few years?
I haven't been interested in The Simpsons since probably a little after the movie came out.

The show does not even work in the 2020 context. Virtue signalling aside, i don't think many hardcore fans even watch anymore

So...has this been a problem almost the entire time, or just in the past few years? I haven't been interested in The Simpsons since probably a little after the movie came out. Desi people haven't been keen on the character for a long time, frankly. Like, imagine if there's virtually only one Chinese character on TV, and it's on a huge cultural hit show, and it's Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

"Virtue signalling" is one of the dumbest terms to ever catch on. It's so silly and hypocritical. You're "virtue signalling" every time you call out "virtue signalling." "I'm a really good person, so I'm above virtue signalling unlike them and everything I say is true and sincere." Talk about groan zone.
