250. Abominable. A nice little family film that will get lost and forgotten by the end of the year. That's too bad because it's better than most of the movies my kids drag me out to. Some nice visuals and while it doesn't have much in the way of a message it still had a nice story.

43) 2019-09-22 "The Black Six" - 1974Story: an African-American biker and his five friends (former Vietnam soldiers) go home to find out why his brother was killed. Finds out his brother was dating the sister of a racist biker, and the gang killed him. The white gang goes to a bigger gang for help. Big fight ensues. Blaxploitation film notable for having several NFL players as the main characters, including "Mean" Joe Greene (of Coca Cola advertising fame). None of them can act well. Also poorly filmed, shoddy sets (there's a "bar" that was an obvious shed that was meant to be torn down easily), bad dubbing... it's not good. Ends with what appears to be an explosion that kills everyone but has a caption saying "The Black Six Will Return!" They didn't. Has this been done by MST3K? It probably should have, it's that level. 44) 2019-09-22 "The Black Gestapo" - 1975Story: General Ahmed is the leader of the People's Army, a para-military organization that protects and helps the Africa-American citizens of Watts from dealers and crime. After Ahmed's girlfriend is attacked by mobsters, Ahmed allows Colonel Kojah (Charles Robinson, Mac from TV's "Night Court") to organize and arm a 'security force'. However, Kojah turns his force into an army that replaces the mobsters and becomes the crimelords of Watts in their place. When Ahmed finds out, he fights back to destroy Kojah. Better than "Black Six", much better acting. Still cheaply made but moves at a good speed so it's not as noticeable. There's a quick flood of Nazi imagery at the beginning. Kojah's training of his force felt to me more like something that happened in Africa like Uganda (Idi Amin) but there was a definite Nazi-ish feel to the soldiers. Ends with a standard shoot-out. A nice touch: after Kojah's forces take over, they start saying the same lines that the mobsters said earlier in the movie. As in, the EXACT same lines... slick way of saying "they're just as bad as what they replaced". I liked that. Other that being done on a budget, not bad.

#274 - The Hollars There’s nothing special about this movie on the surface. But the strong ensemble cast (Sharlto Copley, Charlie Day, Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins & Margo Martindale stand out) and a pretty heartwarming story lifted this up. It hits some surprising emotional beats as well.

#275 - Midsommar
Ari Aster does great work to create a creepy atmosphere and deliver a visual masterpiece at times. The acting is top notch, with Florence Pugh shining and William Jackson Harper standing out. It is a bit too weird at times and the biggest problem is the length. There’s no need for this to be two and a half hours. There’s a lot that could be trimmed to get it under two and that would improve it. [***]

#276 -The Dead Don’t Die
The cast in this film is tremendous. They are a delight in every single scene. Driver and Swinton are the highlights. It does well with zombie lore and gives us plenty of enjoyable scenes. Some stuff is a bit too weird and there are disappointing aspects that keep it from being a true classic. Still a lot of fun though. [***½]

119. First Blood - So I started a marathon on the Rambo flicks to prepare myself when I watch Rambo: Last Blood. I had only watched the fourth one up until now, but that was a while ago. I had heard that First Blood was different from the subsequent films and I saw that it was more of a survival action thriller than an all-out guns-blazing bullet and gore fest that the future films are. Also, there was a little more drama as I saw that John Rambo suffers from PTSD and has flashbacks of 'Nam. I can say that this is definitely worthy of the praise it gets.
120. Rambo: First Blood Part II - Round 2 of the Rambo marathon. It seems that this went with the trend of the one-man-army films that became all of the rage during that time. Also, this came out the same year as Commando, so this was part of the trend, if not the trend-setter. Anyway, the film started off slow, but really, there had to be some buildup before all the carnage begins. It had a decent story, except I didn't like how the antagonist arrived nearly an hour into the film. But really, those who have seen it know who the real villain was. I had fun with this.

Have not done one in awhile
Obsession - Starring Meki Phifer and Brad Dourif
Plot: A farmhand begins an affair with his elderly boss' young wife.
This is your typical tale of sex , love and betrayl (not necesarrially in that order) similar to Wild Things just without all the greatness of that movie.
It really feels like they wanted to do more with this but basically never do anything beyond the very basic tropes of this type of movie it is played very safe and stays within the box it is placed in , there are no risks or really clever twists and turns in other similar styled and plotted movies except for 1 without spoiling but it comes at a point where it really does not mean anything and quite frankly feels tacked on because they know they needed atleast one interesting twist.
All in all if you enjoy this style of movie done way better go watch U-turn and or Wild Things because while this is not a bad movie it is sadly a worse scenario of being a boring movie interesting set ups they do nothing with and fine acting but it takes no risks and just hits beat for beat the tropes and thats it.

#277 - Hotel Mumbai
The rare true story movie that is ripe with tense moments. I was hooked from start to finish. Patel and Hammer deliver dynamite performances. There are a few pacing issues so you really feel the length. But still an exciting movie. [***½]

#278 - Zombieland
It has the gore you want from a zombie movie and the laughs you want from a comedy. The script is sharp, the pacing is on point, and the chemistry among the cast is brilliant. Even the scenes where they’re just hanging out are fantastic. One of my favorite movies of all time. [*****]

45) 2019-09-29 "The Black Brigade" (aka. "Carter's Army") - 1970Made-for-TV WW2 war movie about officer leading unit of under-trained African-American soldiers to stop the German Army from destroying a dam. Not a bad movie but you could say it was "undercooked". Great actors but the characters they played they weren't given much more than a trait to play up... 'redneck' commander (Stephen Boyd, "Ben-Hur"), 'group leader' (Robert Hooks, "Trouble Man", "Star Trek 3"), 'rebellious street thug' (Billy Dee Williams), 'coward' (Richard Pryor), 'gentle giant' (Rosie Greer), 'intelligent' (Moses Gunn, "Shaft"), and 'youthful' (Glynn Turman, "Cooley High", TV's "The Wire"). Action is pretty bloodless but everyone is given their brief moment to shine before the action starts again. Note: this was on a Mill Creek Entertainment multi-pack, so the picture wasn't great and it was cropped for older TV screens. There were also 'fade-outs' for TV commercials that were cut. 46) 2019-09-29 "Black Fist" (aka. "Bogard") - 1974African-American takes up illegal street fighting to make money, runs afoul of his gangster boss and corrupt cop, goes on revenge spree after they kill his wife and unborn child. Public domain movie. Great performance by lead Richard Lawson (would go on to appear in "Poltergeist" and the "V" TV series). Two roles played by Philip Michael Thomas ("Miami Vice"), and Dabney Coleman ("9 To 5") is the corrupt cop. Shot on a budget. Early half-hour seems to jump forward as if scenes were missing, but rest plays out nicely. Ends on a strange note, however... main character appears to have a nervous breakdown after all the revenge has been served. Side note: there's an Asian street fighter that looks a heck of a lot like wrestler Pak Song... film was made in the mid 70's and Pak Song was wrestling in California at the time, maybe it was him?

38. Annihilation - Alex Garland directed film about a mysterious Shimmer Zone appearing where anyone who enters never returns, until Natalie Portmans husband comes back with no memories. A sci-fi thriller with some very weird visual stuff going on. It was interesting not sure I would classify it as good or bad. Need to think about it some more.
