Just submitted my bracket, with Okada/Juice & Ibushi/Suzuki as my semis, & Ibushi beating Okada in the final. For the record, here's my entire bracket {Spoiler} 1st Round Tomohiro Ishii d. Yuji Nagata Taichi d. Tomoaki Honma YOSHI-HASHI d. Manabu Nakanishi Juice Robinson d. Chase Owen - which unfortunately, turned out to be wrong. Seriously, this one hurt me quite a bit, since I had Juice in my semis. Kazuchika Okada d. Michael Elgin Micky Nicholls d. HIKULEO Bad Luck Fale d. Will Ospreay Toa Henare d. Lance Archer Hiroshi Tanahashi d. Shota Unimo Ryusuke Taguchi d. Hiroyoshi Tenzan (I would've picked Finlay to win too). Kota Ibushi d. Tetsuya Naito Zack Sabre Jr. d. EVIL Colt Cabana dd. Togi Makabe Toru Yano d. Davey Boy Smith Jr. Minoru Suzuki d. Satoshi Kojima SANADA d. Hirooki Goto 2nd RoundTaichi d. Tomohiro Ishii Originally had Juice d. YOSHI-HASHI, but that won't happen, so I'll say that Chase beats him. Kazuchika Okada d. Mikey Nicholls Bad Luck Fale d. Toa Hanare Hiroshi Tanahashi d. Ryusuke Taguchi(obvs. would've beaten Finlay, too) Kota Ibushi d. Zack Sabre Jr. Colt Cabana d. Toru Yano Minoru Suzuki d. SANADA QuarterfinalsOriginally had Juice beating Taichi, but, while I know it won't count, I'll say that Taichi d. Chase Owens. Kazuchika Okada d. Bad Luck Fale Kota Ibushi d. Hiroshi Tanahashi Minoru Suzuki d. Colt Cabana SemifinalsOriginally had Kazuchika Okada beating Juice Robinson, but either way, still picking Okada over Taichi. Kota Ibushi d. Minoru Suzuki FinalKota Ibushi d. Kazuchika Okada to win the New Japon Cup. heres the link to my picks... challonge.com/tournaments/5604371/predictions/305092

For anybody wondering about Taguchi taking Finlay's place, after losing his Jr. title shot recently Taguchi gave a promo saying that he's noticed that Jay White has the 68th IWGP heavyweight title reign, meaning the next one is his magic number.
Wonder if this could end up being a silver lining of KUSHIDA's departure, combined with Ospreay's recent crossover success: maybe New Japan is waking up to the fact that the juniors don't all need to be pigeonholed, and that it'd be better for them and the entire card if they got some more opportunities with the bigger guys. Besides, I've personally always regarded weight limits as something that don't preclude smaller guys from challenging bigger ones, just numbers that prevent the opposite from happening...which is why, in kayfabe, the heavyweight title can be the most prestigious, because it's the title that literally anybody can challenge for, no matter how big they are. I know, I know, that's what openweight titles are for, but if we're going to have things like Prince Devitt, younger Kota Ibushi, or current Zach Sabre getting heavyweight title shots, then it makes the most sense to me.

Still think it's a damn shame KUSHIDA never really got that shot to show what he can do
At least the NEVER right now seems to be the launching pad of testing the waters for what some guys can do and you can always move them back to Juniors if you think they need more seasoning
It's fun to see when the Juniors say f*** that i'm going to HW because it adds a different dimension

Just submitted my bracket. I have Juice, Okada, Ibushi and SANADA as my final four, and Okada just barely going over SANADA in the final after a star-making effort.

Umming and ahhing now about who faces Ibushi in the final. I still think Ospreay beats Okada to set up a title match later in the year. But, now I’m wondering if that’s enough and Juice beats Will in the semis to face Ibushi. Juice arguably needs the win more and desperately could use some legitimisation after a less than stellar G1.

I'm really looking forward to this tournament. Nagata vs Ishii is going to be a good one and I would laugh my ass off if Nakanishi wins.

Submitted my bracket in before seeing the Anniversary show today. I have Okada winning over Ibushi in the finals. The MSG show is too important for the main event to not be a knockout so I would bet anything it'll be between those two. Going with Okada solely because the feud is already established. I had it with the thinking that Okada is about to win but then gets betrayed by Will, but the Anniversary post-match seems to go against it. Excited to see what happens

I do have them facing off there and in my head that would be the trigger for Will to turn. The White/Ospreay match went how I expected in that Will was going to try leaning into the heavyweight style only to be dominated and revert to his aerial self when it wasn't working.

Interesting news coming out of the anniversary show -- Ayato Yoshida will be leaving New Japan.
I thought it was strange that he took the pin instead of Narita, and it sounds like he was also offered the New Japan Cup spot instead of Umino. Both decisions were made once he turned down a formal contract and opted to remain in K-DOJO out of loyalty.
Honestly thought he could be a great long-term addition to the roster, but I get his mindset. You can read his official notice on social media.
