The way these brackets can turn out is going to be insane You're obviously going to have Okada and Naito on opposing sides and you have to take into account their respective matchups over the years against diff people and who they have never faced. Tana and Okada in the same bracket is always a certainty. White I can see in Naito bracket because they never faced off and you don't want to run him and Okada into the ground. Ibushi and Naito have been fighting all year and they said that was their "last match up" so him in Okada bracket makes it damn interesting Add in the wildcards in Shingo, Mox, and KENTA and you have some crazy matchups on the way Yeah, White and Tana probably need to be in different blocks, because otherwise you've run that matchup into the ground.

Also considering the little riff between EVIL and SANADA after their loss for the tag titles, I can see them being in the same bracket, most likely with Okada

So when you look at last year's G1 competitors: Hiroshi Tanahashi Kota Ibushi Kazuchika Okada Kenny OmegaJay White Zack Sabre Jr. Minoru Suzuki Tetsuya Naito EVIL Tomohiro Ishii YOSHI-HASHI SANADA Michael ElginJuice Robinson Togi Makabe Hirooki Goto Hangman PageToru Yano Bad Luck Fale Tama TongaTaking things at face value, Omega/Elgin/Page/Tama are out. That leaves four spots (if they're keeping it at 20). Adding in Shingo, Mox, KENTA & Taichi immediately fills those empty spaces. New Japan could always remove Fale/YOSHI/Makabe and put people like Ospreay/Cobb/Kojima, but that's more Western fantasy booking than reality. Either way, I'm hyped for this year. NJPWWorld only has three live shows on the Kizuna Road tour - June 16, 17 & 25. Expect competitors, blocks and cards formally announced on those three days, respectively. Quoting myself as a reference point for my block guesses. BLOCK 1: Okada, Naito, Moxley, Robinson, EVIL, Suzuki, ZSJ, Fale, Goto, YOSHI BLOCK 2: Tanahashi, Ibushi, SANADA, Shingo, White, KENTA, Taichi, Ishii, Makabe, Yano Maybe 20% confident on this. I do think they keep White/Fale separate, but there has to be some kind of Suzuki-gun bout and at least two LIJ bouts.

Though even if you switched Naito and Tana, I don't see Naito/Ibushi happening again so soon either... So maybe, swap Naito with Tana, and swap Ibushi with Mox.

Man, what a huge set of announcements for the G1. A blessed time to be a wrestling fan.

Welp, if Moxley's in I have to think Dallas ticket sales will at least be picking up a bit.
REALLY hope that KENTA's feeling good and can bring his A game, I'd kill to see him unleashed again.
Have to say, with BoSJ as strong as it was this year the juniors kind of put the G1 on notice, so this might be a "spared no expense" kind of tournament.

So either Taichi isn't making it, or a fifth competitor from last year is getting cut.

So either Taichi isn't making it, or a fifth competitor from last year is getting cut. Fale, Makabe, Yoshi-Hashi are the prime candidates to not make it I think Taichi gets in, they've been doing a lot of work with him and he did have his best showing to date with Ishii

Pretty sure he's just talking smack, but I don't think Jericho could produce under the G1's schedule.

Fale I feel like gets in just for some Bullet Club representation outside of White, plus he's just built differently than any of the other guys, so he'd add visual flair considering way more of the West'll likely be watching this G1 due to Moxley, and Taichi's been doing some good work lately. He's also probably a relatively easy night for a lot of the guys, so he'd fit in on that front like Yano does.

Plus Fale always does well in the G1 outside of last year with the constant DQ's It would actually be interesting for Yoshi Hashi to beat ZSJ for the British HW title and then still get left out the G1. Makabe I think gets cut off if they do want to add Will which is a shame because I do think Makabe should be able to go out on a high note but he would be taking the L's It is a stacked deck this year

I wouldn't put much money on Makabe not making the cut, if just due to him still being one of their biggest mainstream stars in Japan; there's a reason he and Tana almost always get a main event during the tournament, and as long as they guy's got gas left in the tank I think they'll keep deploying him that way.
Still, the numbers are getting interesting. If I had to guess, I'll say that Ospreay doesn't get in this year, but does in 2020.

As announced earlier today, competitors and blocks will be announced at the same time this year - on the 16th. Match-ups will be announced on the 17th.

Part of me wants to see Mox in the same block as Yano. I know he’s burnt out on WWE’s style of comedy, but those two would have a much different dynamic than the sort of things Vince was writing for Dean, and could potentially be pretty fun.

Damn did I pick the right time to take the plunge and get NJPW World. The BOSJ Final and Dominion were incredible, and this is shaping up to be the most stacked G1 of all time.

Also, the whole thing with Moxley and Umino is a great way to give Jon a partner for the undercard matches without him being tied to a faction.
Looking forward to seeing how that plays out.
