I would be suprised if the New Zeland national anthem is played tonight at NBA and NHL games (and we get the New Zeland Flag patch for the rest of the season)

Spyro don’t make racist jokes, apologizes and then does them again. He’s a f*** head. Oh he’s totally a f*** head but laying the blame on him and other media is taking the spotlight away from the fact that there is a deep deep DEEP mental health issue in this world and Internet culture as a whole is turning an entire generation into sociopaths. Felix Kjellberg didn’t put the gun in his hand but he’s very responsible for creating and fostering that content.

The problem is that white supremacy is ignored by authorities and the media as a serious threat. It's been building for years, publically encouraged by well known figures of prominence, marginalised by news organisations as "rhetoric" because of a misguided pursuit of neutrality, then platformed and normalised with outright racists portrayed as defenders of free speech, just asking questions, the marketplace of ideas etc...which is all bullshit intended to cover their true purpose, which is simply to promote thir ideology.

Want to know what’s f***ed up.
Not as f***ed as the situation itself obviously.
Last month on Facebook I shared link of the Jane’s Addiction song “Pigs In Zen” from YouTube .. for Chinese New Year. Anyways just picked the first search result since I could not find a official video. The video just contained a static shot of the album cover the song comes from “Nothing’s Shocking” .. the album contains artwork of conjoined twin women who are nude and have fire coming out of their heads. Facebook took the video down within a minute because of the nudity..
How long did they let that video broadcast before stopping it? if they even did..

I actually had to walk away from my laptop today after some of the shit I was reading on Facebook.
Trust me If I was to say here what I want to say I'll end up getting in trouble so I will show restraint.
All I will say is if by any chance you think this is ok and are actually defending these actions.
f*** you.

Been hearing the news all day... it's truly shocking what's happened.
My condolences to the family and friends of the victims of this madness... but that doesn't feel like it's enough...

Shooter said "Subscribe to PewDiePie" shortly before he began his rampage. Considering all of the memes that were in this monster's manifesto, I'm guessing him saying that was just him trying to stir the pot even more.

The shooter say "subscribe to pewdepie" before doing the mass shooting. The shooter also credits Fortnite and Spyro The Dragon 3 for the shooting as well. I know pewdiepie is a piece of shit, but I wont be surprised if the shooter say that just to get people to keep talking about it.

That’s kinda of like blaming JD Salinger for John Lennon’s assassination.

So The Atlantic had a decent write up on the strangeness of the 74-page "manifesto" one of the killers made. www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2019/03/the-shooters-manifesto-was-designed-to-troll/585058Basically, the guy wants his hateful message spread, and he's manipulating press coverage to get it. He knows that the media will be all "so who's this 'PewDiePie' guy?", or "what's in Spyro the Dragon?", and all the time it'll broadcast his message of intolerance, violence, and hatred. Of course PewDiePie made this easy to do, what with his constant bigoted comments ("but it's just a joke, you guys!"), but the article gives the horrifying example of the New Mexico school shooter from late 2017 who WAS intercepted before the shooting by the FBI for having forum accounts online where he described himself as a "future school shooter", but he got off the hook because he told the FBI he "just likes to troll" or whatever, so they figured he was harmless. Nope, no he wasn't. There's a generation of young men out there who have allowed the internet to define every aspect of who they are, either because real life has not been super easy for them the way they were raised to expect it should be, or because they've forsaken real life for whatever kicks they get online; many of them have found purpose in diving down a rabbit hole of bigotry, resentment, and pseudo-intellectualism performed by grifters who are looking to make a quick buck by pandering to people's prejudices and biases. Then we get awful murders like these, and the people performing those grifts or making "just a joke, man!" turn around and beg off, and tell us they don't deserve an iota of blame for the atmosphere and culture they've helped to create, and the wider discourse that has given so many of them a large platform they don't deserve. Suffice it to say the potential consequences here, as shown in New Zealand, Pittsburgh, and other places where this violence has exploded in recent years, are terrifying.

By his own admission, he's an accelerationist who wants to force a race war. Now that he's been caught alive, I can't think of a more fitting fate for him than to throw him into a tiny cell and let him rot inside his own brain for the rest of his miserable life.

There needs to be some serious talk about how the internet is used to radicalise. People have posted notes on how you can set up a new Youtube account, watch nothing but the most innocuous of videos, and it'll start recommending you watch far-righters talk about 'the Jewish question'. However these algorithms are determined, it's pushing people into a world of bigotry and hatred, washed down with some post-ironic bull so they can avoid having to think about how messed up their thinking is. And when people with vast and naive subscriber bases start walking further down that road, being open with racism in a way that makes fascists think they have that kind of widespread support, they shouldn't be surprised when... People associate them with the fascists that they openly court.

But they curiously go quiet when the radical agents are domestic terrorist groups like white supremacist organiztions. To me, both types of groups are terrorists and should be treated as such. But as Chris Rock says "I ain't scared of Al Qaeda. I'm scared of Al Cracka."

These internet sites like YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, and so on could do a lot to limit the damage of hatemongers radicalizing people by taking steps to ban hate speech and those who preach it. They’re just too stubborn to do anything.

I live in Auckland and everyone here is just so upset and shocked. I can't begin to imagine what it's like on the South Island.
What this terrorist did was disgusting, but certain prominent extreme right wingers are also at fault for the radicalization of these people and media outlets too like The Daily Mail, Fox News, The Express etc who spread hatred and the voices of the extremists need to be held accountable for what they've created.
Hope that post didn't break any forum rules. I'm terribly upset that this could happen in this peaceful country. In a way it is comforting that it wasn't a New Zealander who did it.

I don't want to play politics. Im sure there is a cause, Im sure he was encouraged to do what he did for a particular reason, but in the end it's another mass killing. 49 innocent people dead. And our reaction (as a whole) isn't going to be to condemn the act but attempt to pin the act on Group X or Group Y.
In the end we'll all just argue until the next horrific event. And we'll try to blame that on the "other" guy as well.

Let's get away from this "my side has it worse, pity us" stuff and focus on the story at hand.
