Man, it's a real good thing America doesn't have any sort of significant problems or stigmas with facilitating people suffering from mental health, otherwise some of these statements could be pretty upsetting.

He went after Bret Hart who was the most vulnerable former wrestler there (or at least certainly one of them). That can't be a coincidence, can it? It certainly could be. He did say he saw an opening and he took it.

He did say he saw an opening and he took it. It was a Hall of Fame segment. He would've known who Bret Hart was. He'd also know that Bret is a Concussion/stroke victim and can't take any bumps to the head. Yet inspite of all of that he went for him. Why? He thought Bret was an easy target. Well he was and he's damn lucky he didn't kill Bret or cause serious harm.

I've been pretty goddamn clear on not defending the guy. But there's obviously a mental health aspect to this situation that's led to this assault.

Well he was and he's damn lucky he didn't kill Bret or cause serious harm. And as I stated previously, if this kid really wanted to hurt Bret he would’ve went for his head. He didn’t. He waist locked him and fell down with him. Perhaps he thought it would be fun to wrestle around with the legendary Hitman. If you’ve seen his twitter you can see he’s more than a little obsessed with the WWE. Quite the dumbass move but that’s how it looks. He fancies himself as an MMA guy. If he really wanted to harm Bret, he could have. I’m very thankful he didn’t. Honky Tonk Man had Jimmy Hart and Peggy Sue #2 standing off to the side. They would’ve seen the kid coming. Next up was Torrie Wilson. Maybe security was too tight with her out there. He says he saw an opening. He was able to hit the ring while the security wasn’t paying attention and Bret and Natalya had their backs turned to him. If Harry Smith was standing behind them off to the side or Jimmy Hart was again odds are this might not have happened or he would’ve been stopped a lot sooner. Security needs to be held accountable too. That’s for sure.

This guy sounds very delusional and sounds like he needs treatment more than he needs an ass kicking. Sometimes it's not as simple as punishing the bad guy.

I think a lot of people are confused by the ‘mentally ill’ conversation. So, as an actual mentally ill person, let me explain. 1) Mentally ill people are far more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Stop using ‘mentally ill’ to describe an individual who has committed a violent attack if you have no proof of their mental state. Plenty of neurologicallly typical people have committed violence. 2) Even if he is mentally ill, it doesn’t excuse this attack or anything he does. Neural atypicals still have free will. We should and need to be held accountable. My wife doesn’t give me a pass if I’m an asshole because my anxiety is bad. The public shouldn’t give anyone a pass for violence. 3) Mental illness gets brought out a lot when violence is perpetrated by a certain demographic as a whistle word. (Mods, if this crosses a line, feel free to delete with my apologies). 4) When you associate mentally ill with violence, you’re painting a very large number of people as ticking time bombs which doesn’t help us as we try to normalize mental illness. I hope that helps a few people understand the conversation. Quoting this again for emphasis. Can we please stop assuming this guy is mentally ill or autistic unless it's actually confirmed as such? None of us are psychologists or psychiatrists. And even if we were, it'd be unethical to say the least to make an armchair diagnosis of this douche based purely on limited observations.

Sure are a lot of people with mental health problems these days. While I'm sure some are legit, I have to think that it's being used as an excuse too. Can't this guy be an idiot asshole? To paraphrase Chris Rock: The idiot asshole didn't go crazy, the idiot asshole went idiot asshole.

As a person who has being dealing with mental illness for most of my life. If I ever for a brief moment, think it's a good idea to attack a senior citizen who is a cancer and stroke survivor. I hereby give you all permission to kick the sense back into me.

First time I have had a chance to comment on this crazy situation.
What an absolute tool to assault a 61 year old man, but also a woman as well seeing as Natalya got taken down too, and albeit both of them could probably kick this punk's ass, still a shady thing to do, but I have to say watching the clips of all those guys who ran in like f***ing lightening on the defence gave me actual goosebumps. I know the wrestling business has its dramas and people have their beef but man, you come for one of their own, especially a legend like Bret, on a night where he and Jim were being honoured, you better be able to run f***ing fast because they went in hard! So touching to see. Travis, Dash, DBS, Spud all flying in and even the New Day running straight to protect Natalya. awful scene, but also makes you realise how they all had each others back right there!

If they’re not going to close the Hall Of Fame ceremony to the public, then WWE should consider doing like they used to and hold it in a smaller venue. When I attended the 2006 WWE HOF ceremony in Chicago (ironically when Bret Hart was inducted the first time), it was held in a 2000 seat theater. The industry people were downstairs, and the fans were in the balcony. There was no confusion about who belonged where, and made it easier to avoid incidents like this. Or like they've done a few times otherwise putting the podium on the stage. I wonder if the ring podium was a last minute change. This was at Barclay's, yes? I take it then that was a time/cost saving measure that they planned for - rent the arena for almost a week, set up the place with the Titantron/ramp for RAW, then utilize that and the rest of the space for the HOF. It was a wonderfully nice idea, great look to the whole ceremony, but I doubt they'll do it again like this after this fiasco.

Marty Jannetty's take. Thinks it was a work and laughs at how easy it is to take down Bret these days...

Vince: "You and Leif Cassidy sure were a great team, huh pal?" Shawn: "I teamed with Marty, Vince." Vince: "How bad do you want that third ring?" Shawn: "Anybody got Al Snow's phone number?"
