Just seen it. Enjoyable. Seeing Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger on the screen somehow appealed to the child in me, and had a very calming effect.
I still have a gripe about Arnold's role in this and in the previous film. As he's aged, it seems off that he isn't the biggest physical presence in the movies.
---
Edit - after having slept on it, I can't stop thinking about this film. The vivid imagery shows up when I close my eyes.
This is exactly how I felt about Terminator 1 and 2 after watching them for the first time.
So I guess job well done and this film, certainly to me, is the successor to the first two, and I can't wait for the sequels (if they get commissioned)
T3 to T5 were throw away pop corn flicks that I can't recall a thing about.

A Terminator movie flopping? I am stunned. It's only the fourth time in a row, fifth if you count Sarah Conner Chronicles.

Honestly I feel about Terminator the way I do about Alien, a great concept when narrowly focused, maybe not meant to be a multi sequel franchise. Both have hit diminishing returns after their first two films and outside some fun comic crossovers (Alien vs. Predator), (Robocop vs. Terminator), they could have stopped after 1991 and I don't think we would have missed much.

As I said in a previous post, while the trailers for this didn't look bad, they honestly didn't look any different then what we saw in the trailers for the three previous Terminator movies that nobody liked. It was all very "been there, done that". I could see how nobody would want to turn out for that. It's getting decent word of mouth, so maybe that might prop it up a little in the long run, but between its budget and probable advertisement costs, I can't see it making any money.
Honestly I still feel the Terminator movie that had the most potential to revive the franchise was Genisys. A movie about how all the time traveling by both sides has just completely screwed up the timeline so badly that nobody is sure who's winning or if any of their futures even exists anymore could be very interesting and actually give us a genuine new take on the mythos. Sadly it was executed very poorly with a lot of confusion and plot holes.

I'm about to see it. I get free tickets with AMC membership so it's a free imax ticket. So even if it sucks, it was free.

Don't get me wrong, that's cool and I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't comment on its quality. However, when I see a shitty movie I'm more worried about the fact that I just wasted a couple of hours of my life on it more so than how much money I spent. I don't mean to get all deep or get this thread off topic, but you only get so much time on Earth. I don't want to waste mine watching shitty movies, even if they were free.

I actually really liked the film. Definitely the 3rd best film in the franchise.
This movie did a better job of turning the Terminator movie formula around than Genisys did. This was a worthy sequel, but I don't see it going on past this. Maybe it's time to lay the franchise down to rest for a good decade before trying again.
Personal rank of the films: 1) T2: Judgement Day 2) The Terminator 3) Dark Fate 4) Salvation 5) Genisys 6) T3: Rise of the Machines

It was fine, particularly since it was free. Went in wanting a decent actioner and that's what I got. Although at some point new robot was like that assassin chick in the Austin Powers movie "Why won't you die?!"
I liked the Grace character quite a bit&my cousin Linda and Arnold were good as you'd expect.
As far as the spoiler changes to the mythos and stuff? While I can see why people wouldn't like it, I just don't really care. Any real continuity has been screwed up since they made a third one anyway, and out of 6 movies a full two thirds now range from ok to bad. This one was a decent two hours I'll probably never watch again.

I just got out of it, it wasn’t bad. There really isn’t a whole lot different from other Terminator movies in what it does with the story and franchise lore, but it’s well acted and has some fun action. It’s way better and easier to take more seriously than Genysis, at the very least.

It was better than the last one? That’s about it. It was still pretty middle of the road.
Probably better then Rise of the Machines and Salvation as a whole. But still wasn’t as good those movies best parts. Like T3’s ending or the first half of Salvation in the post Apocalyptic future, but it’s still better then in Salvation reveals skynets plan is to trick John Conner into compound to fight a naked Arnold Schwarzenegger, instead of just blowing the entire compound up. Then open heart surgery in wasteland or Talk to the hand. Okay fine I have a soft spot for T3.

I love all the call backs though which some might see as a negative as them relying on nostalgia but I thought it was fun when those things popped up and one would get a memory flashback.
The Rev 9 himself being a complete callback to the TX from T3
Them hiding out in a motel after getting away from the Rev 9
Graces first appearance being butt nekked in front of a bunch of cops
One of the major fights taking place in plant with a bunch of robotic arms dealing with car parts etc

I felt that T2 was a perfect way to end the franchise and never had any desire to go see anything that came out after.

I've been saying for years that only one man can save this franchise: John Cena. He was born to play a cyborg.

There is one option left for the Terminator franchise, the same option for all failing 80's franchises - the crossover. So what other dying franchises are left out there that Terminator can hitch itself to to see about eeking out another movie or two of significance? And don't say Robocop, that's too easy.
