Neil Tyson's tweet over the weekend is basically an example of why brilliant physical scientists can often be really dumb at the social sciences. There was a term for it, but it's slipping my mind now.

He and his friends were pretty much all like that.

There was a term for it, but it's slipping my mind now. Doctors get the same shit and some are put through acting classes in order to communicate more considerately towards patients. Personally, I appreciate it, but yeah, I get it.

Wow six pages and no lock in sight... So far. The fact of the matter is no one wants anyone to die. No one wants to have to worry about if a loved one will come home at night. None of that is political. Neither is common sense solutions to guns, assault weapons, laws that govern them and laws that protect the common good. We can all agree on that - so let’s work towards it and for the lives lost and the lives we are trying to protect, let us all fight for it.

Most importantly, don't fall asleep yet again on this issue. Because going back to sleep and doing nothing has been the answer we've settled on for 20 years now since Columbine, and this has been the result of it.

Because going back to sleep and doing nothing has been the answer we've settled on for 20 years now since Columbine, and this has been the result of it. What’s frustrating is after Columbine, we actually had gun control laws in place. School shootings did still happen, but mass casualties were not common. Then the laws were allowed to sunset in 2003. Then Virginia Tech. Aurora. Newtown. Charleston. Pulse. The violence and death escalated at a horrendous rate, but any act to restore the laws was blocked and no doubt will be blocked again. This time, however, the change is when the claim of coming for the guns was raised before, one side cowed. Now the response is you are goddamn right.

I can’t get into this but what I’m certain of is that things aren’t going to get better. Regardless which way things swing, we’re in for a lot of turmoil. I hate that.
I hate that I’m alert in movie theaters. My dad won’t go out to watch movies out of fear of that, and any time I’ve stepped back into my college for the library, during schooltime, shits terrifying, man. My heart goes out to high school kids and college kids..I guess I sorta lived through it but not at this rate if I recall correctly.

To be honest, and I won't say more than this, once Sandy Hook happened and nothing changed I sort of abandoned hope that something would. If that wasn't the catalyst, what could it possibly take to change hearts&minds?

If that wasn't the catalyst, what could it possibly take to change hearts&minds? Money. Basically. Let's say Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, or Jeff Bezos decided that the mark they wanted to make on the world was to eliminate this issue and that person decides that cost really isn't an issue, they might have a chance to do something. The intransigence is largely due to money, so the cure could come from even more money.

I could point out that a certain organization that supports free unrestricted gun ownership here in the United States wanted to spend six million dollars on a house for its president, but that would imply it’s a for profit organization making money off the killing.
Just saying.

Yeah, a lot of our problems as a nation can be traced back to the fact that the right thing isn't done because it is bought out by corporations. The whole country is set up to where the outrage over guns, medical costs, and environmental concerns fall on deaf ears because our system is more rigged than a Chuck E Cheese claw game.

We have more bans and restrictions on TOY guns than the real weapons in the US. It is easier for me to get a real AR-18 then a decent replica of Han Solo’s blaster. That’s... just weird

That’s... just weird I ran into this issue about 2 years ago and it blew my mind. It was easier to get a buy the "REAL" Stormtrooper Rifle prop replica that shot real bullets than a realistic model one with lights and sound. The gun shipped completed and the toy required 2 different kits and about 4 hours worth of modifications to get rid of the stupid ass orange tip and repaint the non-black parts.

Nothing will be done. Forget the money aspect. Try confiscating a half a billion guns from people who for the most part aren’t interested in giving them up.
