So... how the hell do they write him out? None of the announced Phase 4 slate would have any reason to mention him at all, aside from maybe What If?, which is easy to write around. Now I want to see "What If Tony Stark was bitten by the radioactive spider?" .

The public reaction to this is great to look at if you've ever wanted to think "hmm, is nihilism really so bad?"
Like seriously can the world just go lay down for a minute

So... how the hell do they write him out? Go the Netflix Marvel route and make very vague references to him (“that spider kid in the tights”).

What's worse is the villain situation. Spidey can only fight villains from his rogue's gallery (meaning no Dr. Doom or Juggernaut), and the Marvel characters cant take on Spider-Villains like Kraven or Rhino.

Wasn't Dark Avengers in the plans? I'm sure they can shoehorn in any megalomaniac into the Norman role, but would definitely prefer him.

Hey, at least we can possibly get Norman Osborn with the Carnage symbiote, Red Goblin was quite a popular wrinkle on the old formula last year

That whole Feige statement is basically them trying to rile a community against Sony to get them back on the table and it doesn’t read as anything else to me. Also those fans that booed the Sony movies, grow the f*** up. Seriously. Someone on here made a statement that struck a chord for me. He said "Corporations aren't your friends." And this squabble between Disney and Sony is a perfect representation of it. Obviously there's disappointment from fans in regards to the MCU and Spider-Man. The anger is directed at two corporations that have more money than we'll ever see in our lifetime. It's impossible to feel sympathy for either side. I wish I had so much money that I could just squabble over an iconic character and still keep my job.

Is that really such a bad thing? How important or often are Spider-Man’s clashes with Galactus

If it means no Luthor Lite version of Osborn in the MCU, that's at least one positive.

Ouch. That just sounds brutally pessimistic about not just fixing, but of ever getting Spider-Man back. And it’s got to be painful for Feige and everyone involved - they love Spider-Man and they have plans, but no control. In a way, Feige's pessimism isn't surprising. Going back to the infamous interview he did alongside Amy Pascal, and him just about recoiling at her suggesting Venom would be in the MCU, I can't help but imagine that as much as they love Spider-Man and want him in the MCU, the relationship with Sony wasn't built to last.

Rothman is one of the major roadblocks probably goin by how poorly he handled X-Men and FF at Fox, doing all he could to keep Deadpool from happening etc.

Really I feel like not being able to use modern Osborn would be a huge boon to the MCU in its own right. He is just a terrible, terrible character by this point and really has been for decades.

They should have left him dead. It retroactively weakened one of the best stories ever.

Then you gotta get into “which stayed the strongest the longest before the ruination?”

Granted.... these days, it would be hard to keep a secret like this.... but what if this is all an under the table "agreement" between Sony and Disney? Spider Man isn't necessary for Phase 4 and they set him up to be "on the run". He's on the run doing his own thing now with Venom "outside the universe". In a couple years, Sony and Disney end up coming to agreement "out of the blue" and Spidey is back for Phase 5..... Like I said, in this "Internet Era" and everyone being an "insider", it would probably be impossible to keep a secret like this, but...... I know... awful conspiracy theory type crap.

I mean I doubt it, but it is a relief that we had the ending we had in Far From Home because it perfectly sets up that scenario where Peter can be missing and it doesn't take away from the story. Hell, Hulk missed out on Civil War and it didn't take anything away from that.
