It looks fantastic but holy shit I cannot imagine the train wreck of a story this is about to be. My only guess everyone is in a constant reboot...they live out their life one way ,the matrix reboots and it just begins again wiping all previous data clean and starting fresh but ...surprise monkey wrench someone begins to remember and question things. Lol. Yeah. I can just imagine this A reboot...about reboots, maaaan!

The Architect flat out tells Neo that's how things are done in the second one, then offers him the chance to choose the people who will start the new "resistance" once the machines destroy Zion. Instead Neo walks out to go save Trinity and ultimately end the war... I guess... is that what he was saying? if there was ever a scene in a movie that starts off really intriguing and ends with you having no f***ing idea what's going on, that is it

While not a 1:1 analogy, the Matrix is sort of an unstable OS. It runs fine most of the time but eventually it always develops a glitch and needs to be rebooted. The One is the glitch, and when it appears it must be led back to the Source and the system reboots. To ensure this happens Zion is the bargaining chip - either enter the source and Zion is allowed to be rebuilt from scratch, or refuse to enter the Source and the Matrix crashes, killing every human attached to it, and Zion is subsequently destroyed by the machines. The Neo in those films is the sixth manifestation of The One. Presumably the Neo in this movie is the seventh, but who knows?

He explains that some humans simply will not accept the Matrix programming, so they're freed and allowed to live in their own city and carry on a rebellion against the machines buoyed by the myth of "The One", but it always ends with the city destroyed and the savior choosing a group of men and women to start the cycle over again, at least (presumably) until Neo chooses not to follow the program and tries to save Trinity. It's one of the most intriguing ideas in the series and it was a real bummer they didn't explore it further.

I do like that the red and blue isn't just relegated to the pills now but in asthetics as well.
Young Morpheus is the red pill and the blue haired girl is ...well blue pill.
Gotta think that is intentional and will play into things...will Neo and trinity having to side with one or the other , like one wants to keep people in the matrix and the other wants to free them sorta thing.

I always took it to be an inevitable event within the matrix, not a glitch of the system. So the machines simply prepared for that inevitable event.

Yeah, as I said, not a 1:1 analogy. The One isn't so much a glitch as a predefined function, but then we're getting into the mathematical gubbins that lost most people's attention in that scene. Easier to just say it's sort of like a glitch and the system needs to be rebooted.

Despite usually being dismissive of sequels on principle, this trailer has genuinely intrigued me and made me want to give this film a chance.

Additionally Neil Patrick Harris having blue eye glass frames and then later in the trailer that woman with red eye glass frames. I wonder if the blue and red coding of Young Morpheus and White Rabbit are intentional misdirects, though. Like, wouldn't it be hella trippy if the Young Morpheus is like a construct of the Matrix and the red pill he is offering Neo isn't the actual one that frees one's mind of the Matrix, but actually does the opposite and drags you down deeper into the Matrix's hold? I noticed the trailer made a very pointed gesture to show that Neo is popping blue pills like they were candy, I presume they aren't working on him, not entirely at least. Another thing that might be tipping the hand that Young Morpheus isn't on the up and up is what looks like a shot of him in an Agent suit, so unless he's in disguise or something...Young Morpheus looking kinda sus to me right now.

I want the kitty cat on Doogie Howser's desk to be Neo's mystical guide throughout the movie and have it talk to him with a Scottish accent for some reason.

What is interesting is that the Wachowskis have atleast to what I remember stated numerous times over the years that everything is canon to the Matrix including the games.

Enter the Matrix and The Matrix Online were/are both canon, yeah. Path of Neo was basically the trilogy with an alternate ending. But I'm guessing in hindsight making your movie franchise beholden to a couple of games very few of your audience played, much less remember 15 years later is something not worth sticking with.

One of the scenes in the trailer is straight up Neo with his eyes burnt out being looked on by the machines. Doubt they're discounting the sequels.

Anyone else getting "New Nightmare" vibes with this trailer, or it just me?

I didn't noticed the eyes were burned but it did seem to me that he had all the wires that were attached onto him when he went in to fight Smith. It also looks like Trinity is hooked up to some machinery. I'm guessing she could have actually been saved by the machines after Neo went off.

Saw the trailer. Looks like Neo is playing Keanu Reeves unlike the first movie.
