Personally this was the one thing on the show that I really disliked. But like other people have said, when the show was like 99% good it was easy to forget about this as the show went on.
Dustin has been doing this for a long time and I've always seen it as less sexual and more "I can't hit you back, so I'll gross you out instead". A gross-out move, not that unlike Statlander's wet willy attack. A lot of this is because Dustin's characters are so damn weird, which gives something like this a slightly-different context than when Ric Flair - whose character is basically a womanizer - does it.
Still don't like it in 2020 and think it's a Dustin-ism that needs to be retired.

Let's veer this on topic please. I'm gonna clean this thread in a bit and alter the OP, regardless of original intent it's a convo worth having.
EDIT: There. OP altered and a page and a half deleted.

I didn't like the implied forced kissing aspect, but at least from what I saw, it looked like he just kind of smashed the side of his face against hers. I'm confused, I said I didn't like the premise of a forced kiss, but even looking at the gif you linked, it still looks to me like he just smashed his face against her enough to imply him kissing her by rubbing off his make-up? And why did you link me a gif to Ric and Becky? I didn't like that either

It was stupid and it shouldnât happen period. In kayfabe thatâs a man forcing himself on another woman which is a no go
Are some people just letting it go without making a big stink? Yes. If this was WWE would it blow up? Probably. AEW bias or whatever you want to call it isnât the overall deciding factor tho
I do hope they get flack over this and donât try it again because that shit belongs in the past

I didn't like the spot. It was stupid, gross and not well thought out. While I love Dustin, implied sexual assault (especially against women or children) being played for laughs or cheers isn't something I can approve of.

I found it more corny and outdated rather than outright offensive

I think Dustin Rhodes gets a pass as he's just a kinky weirdo (aka. Goldust) Good ol' Haggard gave him the good ol' one right in the kisser anyways! Avenged his wife already.

Still not sure if I like or not I get the logic, but there's got to be a better way for Dustin to stick it to her than kissing her. Like, maybe having him going in for the kiss, and Catalina bolts straight into the lower bowl seats would be a good way of psyching her out without actually going through with the act.

Its one of those things that could only have been done by a guy who had been in the business for a very long time and remembers when spots like this got big pops. It was bad but its likely all three were willing participants and there are enough people backstage that know better that will pull them to the side and tell them not to do something like that again

Not a big fan of that. I also don't think it's something Dustin would've done without her consent beforehand, but the image is not something I want to see again.

It was a dumb spot, and it never should have happened.
I'm not going to start a moral crusade over it, though. I doubt the spot would have occurred without the explicit approval of both parties involved in it.
Societal change doesn't happen overnight, and sometimes a gentle hand and some explanation does better than being out for blood. Dustin's an old-school guy who did an old-school spot. It's the environment he was raised in, and while that certainly doesn't excuse it, it's a lot more realistic and compassionate to have someone pull him to the side and tell him that's a no-go moving forward instead of making a mountain out of a molehill, because once again, it was a predetermined wrestling spot.

Yeah that made me think about Flair/Becky as well last night, but to be fair to Flair at least he was a heel deliberately trying to piss Becky off in that match. It was also treated as disgusting and dastardly by commentary. I didn't see the PPV so I don't know how it was treated but yeah... Dustin was the face it's not a good look. I'm sure it was done with consent from all parties involved but it's still a bad look to have the face forcing themselves on someone like that.

I thought it was a callback to his Goldust days more than anything and a way to get back at the heel This also isn't the first time an AEW wrestler has shut someone up in the front row by kissing them, am I right Sabian?

Weekly vicious gang attacks. Eye stabbing. Dudes like Orton trying to cripple people. LITERAL ATTEMPTED MURDER.
Yeah, something like this doesn't bother me. The Flair/Lynch thing didn't either. Shrug. It's Pro Wrestling.

I did make a thread.... hours after the event because I just saw it. I was shocked there wasn't already one. I figured someone else would be upset a a guy forcing himself on a woman like that, but I guess that only applies to you know other companies. You realize itâs fiction. Itâs moving a narrative. Why would you be offended? I donât understand this thought process. Itâs not real life. Fiction has themes: more general ideas suggested by the events. These themes suggest the beliefs of the writers, either because of the deliberate statements they're trying to make or because of things that accidentally leak through. More importantly, these themes are communicated to audiences in ways that change their attitudes, especially over time.

It was kind of glossed over It was no doubt a planned spot and consent from everyone because Jake wife immediately said OMG that's disgusting with the makeup smeared on her face. Just a bad spot overall that didn't add to anything
