Some healthcare companies here are bracing for MA declaring shelter in place or something similar. Today we were issued badges so in case police pull us over or something when we are outside we can show it to them and not get in trouble since we’re healthcare workers.

I work for a nursing home so my job sent a mass email saying that everybody is considered "essential."
But since I'm a medical coder, I'm currently woking from home until further notice.

I am working from home, which I am aware makes me immensely lucky because I can still work.
That said I have been doing it for two days and already feel like I am going crazy.

One of my jobs is done remotely to begin with, but my other one is currently still being asked to at least work part time, based on our own availability. It's so weird to set my own schedule based upon need and when everyone else is working. Essentially, they need at least one person on site to keep research going for the rest of the department but we are not to have more than 2 at any time. They are now suggesting that we can work only half days when we do come in, which suggests to me that the campus is about to completely shut us down. I predict that within a week the only people allowed on campus will be some facilities staff (to keep the power on), people responsible to keep research organisms alive (animal care and greenhouse staff), and IT people.

I'm a cashier at a Walmart. We've changed the hours from being open 24 hours to 7 AM to 8:30 PM, but even if the pandemic gets worse, I'm pretty sure the building will have to burn down to get us to completely close.

I work for a popular budget fashion store here in the UK, at present we are good to go to continue trading, however I expect things might change in the next few weeks, two of my best friends are already in self containment (they are a live in couple) as the male friend has been feeling symptoms since Saturday morning. There was an, unsubstantiated, rumor doing the rounds on Thursday from a customer that the local transport and one of the shopping centers were told that they had to go into shut down in 2 weeks but not seen any info about that and if that were to be the case I wouldn't be able to work as I rely on getting buses to and from work And just a week after I post this, we get shut down. I wasn’t actually in work when the made the decision yesterday, I was on my way to my sister’s for Sunday lunch when I got a text from the company to say so, we officially shut shop for the time being at 5 and going by the videos that were being posted by the weekend team and floor managers it was so dead that they were doing group dances

I work for a company that for legal reasons I will call "Evil eBay". The whole thing has been a bureaucratic nightmare.
They are finally taking steps but the managerial incompetence and hot potatoing of the problem has been a goddamn circus.
Also I'm currently on day 6 of my self-isolation, I've drawn a face on a bucket and had three arguments with it.

Some healthcare companies here are bracing for MA declaring shelter in place or something similar. People in MA and RI (I live in MA, work in RI) have been talking for over a week about how both states are gonna put those orders in place, and then at a press conference the governors both say "NO" to it quite firmly. I guess the RI gov today said "if you don't cut it out (going out to gather, etc) we will have no choice" which sounds like the 1st statement to indicate a move in that direction. And since people are finding it hard to not go out and hang out with 100 friends at the beach or at a wedding, I find myself moving away from my "yeah no they won't do that" premise because people are people. ;p

Saying one thing then very shortly later doing the complete opposite. As for how people are handling it here it’s jarring. I’m being as safe as possible. I literally have only been in my apartment, driving to/from work, and at work for days. Likewise the protocols we have at work at treating it like the Black Death. Very strict. But the way to work is the troubling part. Lots of stores are still open that really don’t need to be. Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Papa Ginos all open. And they’re filled with people going about business as usual. Yesterday I drove by a Dunkin Donuts that had a huge group of teenagers all sitting right next to each other at a big table. It’s easy to make lame jokes about how Dunkin Donuts staying open is the most Massachusetts thing ever. But some people at being very reckless.

Saying one thing then very shortly later doing the complete opposite. Well, in these cases I don't think they're going to be villainized since the public behavior is clearly going to be that thing that sways them in the opposite direction (to the glee of many on social media, it'd seem - the Hashtag Shut Down movements are quite vocal, in good & bad ways). If RI's case is how it goes, the blame will be shifted away to the people who aren't social distancing or behaving. The few eateries I've been to (Subway, mostly) have no tables or seating, to literally dissuade anyone inside from staying. It was my understanding what places were open were all doing that. Hell, I used to work at a seafood restaurant and was SHOCKED to see them closed entirely and not even offering take out - and this is a place whose business is almost entirely take out. I discovered this on a Friday .... during Lent. I saw someone on CNN.com say "act like you already have it." So yeah, minimal human contact, keep away from most / turn away when people walk by and don't seem to care about distance, wearing gloves a lot and a TON more Lysol wipes & hand cleaning than usual (and I always wash my hands) ever since I saw that.

And now we’re officially in a state of emergency in MA. On the scheduling board sick and personal days are all over the place along with vacant shifts. We’re about to get real understaffed, real soon.

Saying one thing then very shortly later doing the complete opposite. Which is exactly what happened earlier today, by the way. And my sisters claim I'm being too harsh by yelling that this is a 180 degree flip-flop. They both have fancy office jobs and can fully do their work at home with their computers and not miss a single dime. I work hourly part-time at a store that's in the grey area of "essential". And I'm the one being irrational.

Sadly my current job puts me in the "necessary workers" column as I work in a large scale department/grocery store. (I won't say what it is but most of you could likely guess.)
And I get the fun of running the electronics section which gives me the honor of dealing with dumb families continuing to storm in looking to buy gaming consoles (of which we have none) or certain hot new games (again most are sold out) and ill prepared work at homers looking for various things we don't carry or have run out of.
Well I can't say the job doesn't have a few laughs, tonight I had to deal with a guy wearing a Dean Ambrose styled gas mask which was fun...until he berated me until I wiped down the debit terminal for him because he deemed it too greasy. (It wasn't BTW, since most of my customers wear gloves or wash their hands now.) He's wasn't wrong about the cleaning part, but A: I do clean the thing at regular intervals and B: guy totally did not need to be a dick about it at all.
Of course I was already on the guys shit list when I misheard his initial request for an Xbox game, but when you're standing five feet away and have half your mouth covered by a mask these things tend to happen.
