I tested negative, fortunately. However, I had to go into work today because there were some priority samples that came through that needed testing. Normally I don’t ever work Sundays at all, but the other people qualified to do this work are either quarantined or sick. Sure, I’d rather do this than watch my team play. They’re only in the playoff hunt as the season winds down.

I'm a teacher and to say the job has been awful since the pandemic started is an understatement. I teach in a district where we have a woefully unqualified superintendent who has made it public that he doesn't think COVID is 'that bad' and I teach at a school with a principal who is the textbook definition of toxic positivity. Three teachers (that includes me) in the whole school wear masks, none of the kids do. Our superintendent sent out an email to staff/parents at the beginning of the year letting everyone know that quarantining was now 'optional' and 'at your own discretion'. Throw in the normal awful stuff you deal with as a teacher and I am now actively looking for other work. I love teaching and working with the kids, but everything else about being a teacher is completely awful. My wife is a teacher so I know all too well the bullshit that goes on with that profession without a pandemic going on. I’ve pretty much begged her to find another job that gets her away from all of the craziness and would actually pay a decent wage but she refuses to leave her kids behind. It’s admirable, but the stress is just not good for her mental health and I’m worried like hell for her.

The stress is definitely never ending. Our daughter was born back in late July and I feel like I'm an awful dad because, when I come home, I'm so mad/depressed/stressed, I just want to be by myself. Like I said, I am definitely looking for another job. The way our district has handled this pandemic was just the icing on the cake. Sorry to derail the thread. It feels good to vent about this junk.

My job is such that if there's 2 people there or 10,000 it doesn't really change my duties and I'm public service. It's great being behind the scenes.

I consider myself one of the more fortunate among those who've had to work. Corporate has taken covid seriously and generally been ahead of the game in ensuring we have PPE and issuing regulations based on laws and appropriate guidance. Roughly half our plants were in red zones, there's about 5000 workers in the 11 or so plants combined and we had our first death from covid just a couple months ago (I'm not sure the circumstances as we are the only Canadian plant so we're a bit isolated).
There have been misteps but generally management have learned from them and course corrected. All that is great. However, supervising during a pandemic has been damn stressful. Every single aspect of the business has suffered interruptions, like everyone we're struggling for workers, hell we are even short supervisors which has only added to my workload and stress. Corporate really showed their ass when at the height of the pandemic they cancelled the bonus for hourly workers. It has since been reinstated but you can imagine how most of my workers felt like they'd been slapped in the face.
Overall, this could have been a far worse experience but there has definitely been a lot more stress while supervising during a pandemic.

The company I work for makes scientific testing supplies, so they are doing fine. I worked from home for about 18 months and went back to the office full time in October (about the same time I changed managers). The company takes Covid very seriously. Masks always required, paid leave for quarantine time after positive tests, social distancing in the offices, about 60% of staff work from home now, full vaccination or lose your job.
I need to get my work laptop upgraded in case one of the boys brings Omecron home from school, so I can go back to working from home if we have to quarantine.

The silver lining of working with a Covid positive population and nearly around the clock due to staff shortages, a heck of a paycheck. My company announced recently that for most of January, staff will get double pay. So my check for last week literally says 236 hours on it.

I wanted to scream at a guy yesterday.
He comes up, no mask on, asking for home COVID tests. He said he took two tests at his work, one was negative, the other was positive. I cleaned the entire counter as soon as he was gone.

Well the announced positive tests have come down from the highs of 35 to around 13 at my store. Not great compared to the 2 or 3 before the surge but still hopefully it trends that way

Right now I'm dodging it like Neo. Omicron is going through the building right now pretty crazy. The person I share a cubicle had it. Then one person on either side of our cubicle had it. They were all out so I ended up having to work a couple 15 hour days to cover. Still not sure how it skipped me. I guess being Vaccinated and boosted is working out for me so far.

I work in IT for an accounting and accounting technology firm and even though we are ramping up for this season I do have the luxury of working from home. Unfortunately, I also have 3 kids of my own choosing which makes that difficult haha.

It got so bad at our school last week that they had to get kids out of class to clean the school because all of the janitorial staff was out sick. We are having a 'virtual learning day' tomorrow so they can 'deep clean' the schools. When we go back, we're going to have to take temps and spray the desks with Lysol between classes. At this point, I just have to laugh to keep from crying.

They're making us do it because they legitimately think it will stop the spread of COVID in the schools.

People not being in contact and disinfecting stuff, yeah, it'll stop it, as long as it's kept up. Once you get bored of it, people get sick.

Just found out a little bit ago that all of the school nurses in our district went to the superintendent with data on how many are sick/how bad it is spreading throughout the schools. They had doctors with them telling him he needed to shut the school down for at least a week to cull the spread. Being the absolute dick that he is, the superintendent told them that "would never happen as long as he was in charge" and "it's just a cold, they'll be fine".
