Unsurprisingly, you're now starting to see surges in COVID-19 cases in states that don't have any sort of Stay At Home orders. From CNN (not linking because a lot of it is political):

So one of the economists/strategists that is tapped to be on the counsel to open the country...Stephen Moore...told the Washington Post that the stay-at-home protesters are a modern day Rosa Parks. 🤦‍♂️ “I think there's a boiling point that has been reached and exceeded. I call these people the modern-day Rosa Parks -- they are protesting against injustice and a loss of liberties." For f***s sake... And these idiots also cry when people call them racist, tone deaf, and insensitive. They don't really leave any evidence to the contrary when they say stuff like this. This asshole also screwed himself out of other positions when he wrote a bunch of columns about how women ruin sports and all other kinds of bullshit. But no, please keep touting him as a "great mind" in 2020. I...I just don’t get how the hell you can even compare the two. Protesting “violations of our personal freedom” from some stay at home orders that aren’t even a month old...and Rosa basically risking her life and freedom to protest segregation...how tone deaf is this man?

DeSantis finally said K-12 schools will remain closed through the end of the school year. He wanted them to go back for 2 weeks so luckily common sense won out.

Yeah, I work at an elementary school, and what would be the point of going back for ten days or so? Especially if you have to keep social distancing and an idea to space out the kid's arrival times.

His reasoning was something about them missing their peers and needing to be around them even for two weeks.

So reportedly SC is opening back up beaches and clothing retailers next week. Because of course we are...f***ing idiots.

As some of you may know, I work at a grocery store and it has been pretty stressful at times. You try to encourage people to practice social distancing but some don't seem to care. Anyway, I start my vacation today and I have never been more relieved to just get away from people for 8 days. I stocked up on enough groceries to last for the entirety of my vacation and I do not plan on leaving my house unless it's an absolute necessity. I want to challenge Bigfoot for the champion of social distancing.

In the US, I really wish they'd release statistics and demos since the testing is still so lacking. These gross numbers, as many have stated, won't give you a full picture because we're not testing people who are asymptomatic, and a lot of people who aren't checking every box of symptoms. So instead of telling us that 25k got diagnosed today or whatever, which doesn't really tell us all that much. Tell me X number of hospitalizations, ICU trips, and deaths are white, black, latino, asian, etc. X of the same are in their 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. X of the same had history of diabetes, obesity, asthma, hypertension, cancer, etc. And stack those if you can, so if you're a 52 year old black woman with asthma you know how at risk you are, etc etc. It's so hard to find these things even online, and it's not reported on in the news unless it's to frame it as racial. I don't care about the slant, give me info. Arm the people with something other than guns. I know there's a bunch of red tape about medical info and that everyone's immune system is different, but this is way more important than gross numbers. Apparently all you really need to know is that they are doing such a great job with the coronavirus. Quit asking questions. Maybe you should try hydroxychloroquine if you are so worried. What have you got to lose? For the record, despite not testing enough this nation with 5% of the world’s population has roughly 30% of the confirmed cases and 20% of the confirmed fatalities. That’s shitting the bed. I actually would have considerably more respect for any leader that says, “I made mistakes. Here is what I’ve learned from them and here is how we fix them.” What’s worse, it’s not like positive steps have not been taken. The problem with a message of “we’re so awesome at this” is that there is no contrition involved to force leaders to stick with these positive steps. It’s why we keep constantly getting divisive and contradictory statements on how to deal with the crises every damned day. The worst part is that the federal government, the one who has all of the resources and the ability to print money, is leaving most of the work to the states. While there is some local organization that must involve the state and local governments, the distinct lack of central leadership has made this situation much worse. Some state and local leaders are too incompetent to deal with this. States and forced to fight over resources with each other and foreign nations. Companies making those supplies are able to force states to bid against each other, auction-style, making resources more expensive. Basically, while there probably are countries who have made more mistakes, we are all seeing the source material for a the future book “How to Fail at Dealing with a Pandemic without Really Trying”. I really don't see how people watch this guy operate and listen to the things he says about this and doesn't think he's an absolute incompetent moron. I mean, you'd have to be a zealot. His mishandling of it, and stubbornness in admitting how poorly this has been, and continues to be, handled is endlessly frustrating. It's insane that the government hasn't just cut him off from speaking everyday. He's a loose cannon who is stopping just short of inciting another civil war.

As someone who lives in Iowa, it's pretty maddening to hear the governor talk about reopening when the number of cases are literally rising daily and we apparently haven't even had our peak yet.

I used to frequent that clowns site back in the day because I love conspiracies. On that note, f*** that clown and of course he’d pull a stunt like this.

I...I can't even with these people. They listen to jackasses who either don't know what they're talking about, are the biggest reasons our country has more cases & deaths then every other country, or both. These morons aren't gonna get businesses open any faster, in fact...they're gonna cause more people getting infected, & cause us to take even longer to get our lives back to normal. Ya know, I don't wish for anyone to get sick, but if any of these dumbasses get Covid-19, I won't feel sorry for any of them, they brought it on themselves.

Like, it's not even about being a Republican or Democrat. He is a wildly unqualified and violently stupid individual. Literally, ANYBODY ELSE would have handled this like an adult in a better way. I hope people realize putting a reality show host in charge was very irresponsible. It's not funny. There are ways to bring about changes you want, but putting an obviously unqualified person in charge is the last way to go about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the big surge in South Dakota's numbers came from that Smithfield plant? And prior to that SD's numbers were relatively low. When you look at it from a percentage standpoint it looks awful, but in reality I think the actual number of infected people is still relatively low.

Yeah, it's not a party issue because Pence has thus far failed to put his foot in his mouth on this in daily briefings. He's come off vastly more presidential than the shit show, while not tweeting like a petty drunk.

The problem is, the most powerful man in the free world is openly endorsing them.
