Instead of re-opening the old thread, I feel it's best to start fresh on this. The original thread can be found here. BEFORE posting, please read this post in its entirety.
We have relaxed our general policy regarding government for this thread in Off-Topic, and only in this thread. This does not mean a free-for-all, though. When discussing anything government-related in this thread, you MUST stay on-topic (no references or allusions to anything regarding those governments that do not pertain STRICTLY to the current pandemic crisis). Again, discussing the actions and decisions of our various governments (local, state, federal and those outside of the US) is being allowed within this thread so long as they strictly pertain to the pandemic crisis and shutdown. Bringing up things about those entities that do not directly pertain to the Covid crisis is still not allowed. Alluding to previous gaffes, mistakes, stupidity, scandals, relatives, etc is a No-Go. . Keep things focused and on-topic.
This is not a thread to wildly air grievances. Keep things to facts, what's happening (in your personal sphere and worldwide). This is, as I've stated before, a very trying time for all of us. I know you all are just as stretched out from everything that is happening as I am and I know the frustration that permeates the current climate. I strongly urge anyone about to post in this thread to take a moment and read over your post a time or two before posting it. If it sounds a bit much, it probably is. Try to stay as calm as you can when composing, no matter how much anger you justifiably feel. We aren't here to fight each other, we're here to keep each other standing up.
We are admittedly playing all this by ear; this is not a situation any of us - you, me or anyone else on this board - have dealt with before. We may have to adjust parts of the rules of this thread if things present themselves beyond what we laid out.
I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for understanding. Please stay safe.

Some personal good news. My cousin’s husband was released from the hospital, today. He had been in the ICU. But all went well and he’s back home.

It’s being reported that Sam Clayton Jr. passed away from Coronavirus in Kingston, Jamaica on March 31st. He was a member of the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team that inspired the movie “Cool Runnings”.

Holy shit, I made me first excursion to WalMart since social distancing started here. What a f***ing disaster, half the people are desperately trying to distance and follow the giant signs and arrows and the other half are no f***s given. Literally every aisle, all one way, had people going against the current. No way in f*** do I attempt going there again until this is done,

They'd been remanded to "emergencies only" because there's only, like, two of them now instead of the usual ten. Kills me that it took less than three minutes for him to fix it after going without the damned thing for half a month.

Sadly you can't control other people (big part of the problem in general). It helps that I usually only trek to stores at nighttime or near closing time and it's not as busy. Or smaller less busy places like CVS.

Hanging out with my family more (zoom meeting chat) every Saturday night a bunch of us have been getting together drinking on it telling each other about our week. Hoping we keep this up after since we're all in different cities.

If your local WalMart offers the curb side pick up for online orders do it that way, my area’s probably one of the safest in North America and I still didn’t feel comfortable being in there.

In the US, I really wish they'd release statistics and demos since the testing is still so lacking. These gross numbers, as many have stated, won't give you a full picture because we're not testing people who are asymptomatic, and a lot of people who aren't checking every box of symptoms. So instead of telling us that 25k got diagnosed today or whatever, which doesn't really tell us all that much. Tell me X number of hospitalizations, ICU trips, and deaths are white, black, latino, asian, etc. X of the same are in their 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. X of the same had history of diabetes, obesity, asthma, hypertension, cancer, etc. And stack those if you can, so if you're a 52 year old black woman with asthma you know how at risk you are, etc etc. It's so hard to find these things even online, and it's not reported on in the news unless it's to frame it as racial. I don't care about the slant, give me info. Arm the people with something other than guns. I know there's a bunch of red tape about medical info and that everyone's immune system is different, but this is way more important than gross numbers.

There are anti-lockdown protests being held across the US and even here in Canada. This just...it both angers and befuddles me. Paranoia and misinformation are dangerous enough individually, but together, they can prove to be lethal. I'm hoping the people involved in these protests either spontaneously develop common sense, or, in the worst-case scenario, I hope local authorities can take whatever measures are necessary to protect the public, up to and including arrest.

Imagine if you’re someone who lives in the same house and has been quarantined fairly safely? would be scary af

The local WalMart has been counting customers and not letting too many people inside, they started last week (I think). I've seen a few other supermarkets doing that as well. Luckily I live in an area with a lower population where it wouldn't get super-crowded unless it's a holiday sale or something.
However, there is a reserve in the area with several confirmed cases...

This is why America will never defeat this, we re too self-absorbed and entitled. I hate having to reiterate that a virus doesnt give a **** about the Bill of Rights or the Constitution. So any actions taken for safety reasons shouldnt be taken with skepticism it should be followed. Now if these are still enacted when this is calmed down, then maybe a protest is warranted but, these yahoos are endangering themselves and family.

twitter.com/fergalbowers/status/1251401798058999808?s=21Some really positive news from Ireland concerning how things are going. We have another two weeks of the restrictions and that’s not to say they’ll all be undone after that but at the very least, the government can see where things are after those two weeks to potential relax them an inch.

Good job Ireland! Here in South Korea we had 18 new cases today (9 domestic, 9 imported). It's slowly going down. One thing I forgot to mention from my last post regarding South Korea and privacy: they can track you by use of your debit or credit cards if you catch coronavirus. So that can be scary from a privacy standpoint. Yet the number of cases are going down. Has anyone been trying to lose weight during this time? I heard obesity could be a risk factor in the disease becoming worse. So I've been pushing myself to lose weight. I've gone down from obese to just overweight now. I'm hoping to get to a normal BMI in the months ahead.

The issue is that there are people who just want to resume life so badly, but are either oblivious or ignorant to the harsh reality of this disease and the fact that our medical system is so ill-equipped to handle tons of people coming in sick. You end up having to either placate the yahoos or focus on the livelihood of everyone else.

I don't care about the slant, give me info. Arm the people with something other than guns. I know there's a bunch of red tape about medical info and that everyone's immune system is different, but this is way more important than gross numbers. Apparently all you really need to know is that they are doing such a great job with the coronavirus. Quit asking questions. Maybe you should try hydroxychloroquine if you are so worried. What have you got to lose? For the record, despite not testing enough this nation with 5% of the world’s population has roughly 30% of the confirmed cases and 20% of the confirmed fatalities. That’s shitting the bed. I actually would have considerably more respect for any leader that says, “I made mistakes. Here is what I’ve learned from them and here is how we fix them.” What’s worse, it’s not like positive steps have not been taken. The problem with a message of “we’re so awesome at this” is that there is no contrition involved to force leaders to stick with these positive steps. It’s why we keep constantly getting divisive and contradictory statements on how to deal with the crises every damned day. The worst part is that the federal government, the one who has all of the resources and the ability to print money, is leaving most of the work to the states. While there is some local organization that must involve the state and local governments, the distinct lack of central leadership has made this situation much worse. Some state and local leaders are too incompetent to deal with this. States and forced to fight over resources with each other and foreign nations. Companies making those supplies are able to force states to bid against each other, auction-style, making resources more expensive. Basically, while there probably are countries who have made more mistakes, we are all seeing the source material for a the future book “How to Fail at Dealing with a Pandemic without Really Trying”.
