As much as I am not a fan of Cumo this pandemic is turning my opinion around on him. Im still wary of him. His squabbling with De Blassio is petty, also if anyone wants to protest feel free to do so. But just remember that your selfishness may cause someone to fall ill. Im tired of hearing these bozos who want to open up the country. It pisses me off people prefer profit over lives. Dont be mad at the quarrantine, be mad that our economic system allows disparities like this.

There's people who are going stir crazy at home, losing their jobs, falling behind on their bills who have legitimate gripes, they're scared. Then there's the Alex Jones crowd who just thinks contrails are mind control chemicals. Politicians are lizard people and theres global initiative to have us all be subservient to a small group of families who pull the strings of everything that goes on in this world. No, it’s far worse than that. Alex Jones DOES NOT BELIEVE THE SHIT HE SELLS TO HIS AUDIENCE!!! Last year in his divorce proceedings he gave sworn testimony that it was all an act to make money.

I am still maintaining that a lot of this could be alleviated if we just had testing, specifically antibody testing. I'm still of the opinion that the bug I had almost two months ago could have very well been this virus. I haven't had something knock me on my ass like that in years. I do believe that the science backs up the fact that you have immunity after being infected (otherwise this is just the baddest mf'er ever) to a large extent. IF we can get that testing in place, that allows so much more data modeling and opening of certain areas based on those results. There’s the rub. My father and I would be very hard pressed to be any more different in our political leanings, but that’s the top thing we can agree with on this case. If we tested everyone, determined who has an active infection, who has recovered, and who is still susceptible we could get this under wraps and start things back up in an intelligent and controlled manner. We just don’t have any real plans or infrastructure for testing in place.

Did anyone hear about a second stimulus check? Supposedly it would be $2,000 a month for everybody for a few months.

I don't know if that's still an ongoing discussion. I do know that the issues right now involve the PPP and proposals that would cover at least 80 percent of worker's pay until this is all over.

Also Americans would think its a conspiracy to lock people into camps. Nah, we've been doing that for centuries. Native reservations, the WWII Japanese internment camps, the current immigrant camps... Of course, there's a key ingredient to those...

Felt the historical nature was enough to get the point without going that direction explicitly.

We just don’t have any real plans or infrastructure for testing in place. There's an antibody test being rolled out this coming week here in Washington. I think the antibody test is the best chance we have to begin to move forward. It was pointed out in an article from The Atlantic that on top of the lack of testing kits, there's a shortage of the chemicals these tests need to work. So while we might have been able to mass produce the testing kits themselves, would we have had enough of the chemicals necessary to utilize them? Especially now that the entire world wants those kits.

It pisses me off people prefer profit over lives. You can't have a future without a present. People need to work, not just to make money, but to socialize as well. Not everyone has the mental capacity to sit at home for six months and be ok like you guys apparently can. People need to interact and hug and shake hands and whatnot. Virtual interacting isn't the same thing as talking to someone right next to you. I kind of understand the protesters point of view (well, some of them, anyway).

I swear to Christ, it's like every time a door opens on this thing, you look into the room that you just entered and realize that the damn room is on fire. Years from now, five or ten, or more, years when those in power now are either out of power or dead, I cannot wait to see the studies that come out on how badly we screwed the pooch on this in the US. We couldn't have screwed this up worse if we tried. I'm not even talking about the administration, there are very few whose hands are clean on this.

But going out isn’t going to kill everyone. Practicing social distancing and keeping up the hygiene regimen with masks and sanitizer really cuts into chances of catching and spreading the virus.

We haven't even been able to get people to practice social distancing in the months this has already been going on. This thread alone I mentioned going to Walmart today and seeing literally hundreds of people there and tons of them not practicing social distancing. And I'm in the hardest-hit county in Texas. You really think people will start now? Hell, look at what just happened in Florida half an hour after they opened the beaches. C'mon, man... And the "isn't going to kill everyone" thing doesn't work for me. It's going to kill thousands. Tens of thousands. Everyone? No. But I guess those people are acceptable losses and don't matter?

That’s not what I’m saying. Don’t even try that shit, dude. I’m saying that if we can keep up with the distancing and knowing who’s most at risk, segmenting those away for a time. We can have things be atleast somewhat open. Cut down the spread and eliminate potential spread to those most at risk. The risk to younger, healthy people is very very low. Self quarantining is key. If you’re working, visits to grandma and grandpa gotta be out of the question for the time being. I’m not for mass gatherings or beach parties immediately. Of course not.

I’m saying that if we can keep up with the distancing But we AREN'T. That's my point. We already AREN'T keeping up with it. *You* me be. *I* may be. But we as a country? Not even close.

There are places without the proper sanitization or equipment for people most affected by the disease, patients or doctors and nurses (my cousin is one so we hear about this stuff repeatedly for Connecticut), so why would even be talking about an exit strategy make any sense right now when that isn't remotely the case right now?

Hell, this thread has shown cases of states not under safe-at-home orders to have doubled or tripled over the last couple of weeks. Again, why are we even thinking about step 3 when there are people who haven't even passed step 1?
