The problem has always been with the yearly development cycle, which has become increasingly unfeasible since game making has gotten far more involved and complex. That's all on WWE's demands for one because of their desperation to be seen in the vein as real sports leagues like the NFL and NBA. So it probably would've been as bad if THQ was still publisher, but the games certainly haven't improved on average since Take Two got the license either. People thought/still think that Yuke's leaving the series will improve the games, too. But I have my doubts unless skipping years becomes a regular practice instead of an exception. Yuke's became absolutely miserable working on the WWE games over the years and Visual Concepts isn't big enough to do these yearly sports games on their own without outside help. Viscon also handles the NBA games, so they may be stretched thin when it comes to yearly sports titles.

Remember how in Falls Count Anywhere matches someone would hop on the apron and the ref would sprint back to the ring to go get distracted by them? Thinking about how a Universe match I had ended in Squidward winning via. ring break I once was playing as Ryback in a tables match with Big Show, superplexed him through it, and he was declared the winner.

Why do they even need to do a yearly title at this point with the industries love affair with DLC? They can literally release more wrestlers, storylines and modes and still make a ton of money if they release a title every 2-3 years.

I’m honestly curious if Monday’s “exciting announcement” will involve additional DLC content for 2k20.

I know they're not going to do it because the "2K" brand is their thing, but now would be a really good time for a brand relaunch with promises of using the extra development time to make a truly different, more intuitive game.

Honestly, they can get way more money from a new game than DLC could likely ever provide on its own.

All that would be needed is scans and mocap for entrances since most of the moves are all in after all the DLC. Give us WALTER, Kushida, Ilja, Swerve, and the others cut you cowards.

Bi-yearly worked out for Assassin's Creed, when they belatedly did that. Hopefully the same happens here.
And couldn't agree more about DLC. When entire character looks and motivations and entrances can change so much, it's a game where a heavy DLC focus actually makes sense.
Get the engine and structure right and sound (and fun). Then be in a position to react and work quickly when presentation changes are needed.

If nothing else it's well past time they start letting us edit hair. It's a constant, persistent problem with these games having hair be out of date, and the general rumor is that they won't do it because they don't want wrestlers getting mad if people give them something goofy but like... Have they not seen Taker and Kane doing the IIconics entrance or anything nL has ever done?
Really if you just made costume and CAW slots separate from each other and let people edit hair then that'd fix a lot of the problems with these games being out of date right there.

The hair would be the easiest thing to fix too! Remember when they had Corbin with hair in 2K19 even though he'd been bald for a solid year before that? They're so lazy.

You wanna play 21? I got 2k22. You wanna play No Mercy? I got one of them too. You wanna play Day of Reckoning? Maybe I got me two of those too

I’m still confused why, after all these years, they still don’t have GM Mode back. It’s something fans ask for year, after year, after year, and yet it’s still not been included. When the developers are asked about it (year, after year, after year) they’ll say things along the lines of “oh, we’re working on something else exciting” or “maybe in the future but we’re focusing on other things for this game” and then the game comes out to less and less fanfare each year.
It was such a simple mode as well; it didn’t need a load of bells and whistles, they could have just kept the same model each year but the updated rosters would have kept it fresh.

My guess is WWE didn't like it for whatever reason and forced them to take it out. There's basically no other possible explanation.

Or just f*** all that new stuff and go back to the No Mercy game mechanics everyone loved

So... not Smackdownesque then. Bugger. What's so wrong about having a game where you simply play as an entirely kayfabe wrestler trying to win fights that are fun to play? Did they really have to go all WWE All-Stars with it? Seems to be along those sorts of lines with its over-the-top cartoonishness, with added "someone's real proud of their fire and particle engine features".
Is it really so hard to make an arcadey game like the Smackdown series, with the TV-like "real" presentation style of the 2K series, minus the "it's totally a work, you guys" aspects and the overly complex control scheme and unnecessary pace-slowing minigames/QTEs?
