The comments from fans of the show on various social media is disturbing to put it mildly.

I feel like people are still fighting with what these letters are. They aren’t some court mandated tell the world what you think about your accused rapist friend. What they are is something that defense attorneys submit to the court focused solely on the person who writes them’s experience with the defendant. That’s it. They don’t write about if he did this…they’re asked to explain their history with the person. Character witnesses and letters are a part of a fair trial. No one is just one thing and the point is for either a jury during the trial or a judge during sentencing to hear all sides of a person as is the defendant’s right. Using these letters to call out people who wrote them misses the nuance of the conversation. They aren’t saying he should be set free or found innocent or accusing someone of lying. They’re writing about the person as they know him to be because it is a part of the process. And hey…he got the full sentencing. There isn’t even anything to be upset about. The thing is that no lawyer is going to try to compel anyone to be a character witness for a defendant. Character witnesses are always going to be volunteers. If I were subpoenaed to provide a character letter for a coworker convicted of the things he was, it’d go something like this: “I must confess that Danny’s conviction for drugging and raping multiple women shocked me. It doesn’t match my experiences with him. He never once drugged and raped me. Maybe I’m just not his type. I think I might be offended, though nowhere near as much as I am for his victims.”

Ashton and Mila's writings kind of remind me of Stephanie McMahon's 9/11 speech BUT in her defense, she was only 24 or 25 at the time while they are adults.
I like Christina Ricci for going the opposite direction of those two. Kathy Griffin is as well, with a very personal story about her family.

If 2022 was a wild ass year for wrestling, then 2023 is a wild ass year for Hollywood

I was wondering if both Kutcher and Mila Kunis were still involved in that organization when the letters were leaked publicly. Because surely you think that either of them would have realized that writing a letter to go easy on a rapist is not a good look.

His friends will attribute his behaviour to a thetan influence.
And I'm not joking about that.

If 2022 was a wild ass year for wrestling, then 2023 is a wild ass year for Hollywood Hell, 2022 was a wild ass year in business and politics too. 2023 is just continuing the trend in which it seems like the rich, powerful, and famous all collectively started showing their asses all at once.

Like it doesn't make Kutcher innocent at all as he was co-creator of the show and if he didn't like the line he could've rejected it. Just means there's even more responsible for the creepiness.
But yeah, that shit was all over the place in the 00's. I didn't think much about it at the time because I was a teenager myself in the early part of the decade. So the girls being lusted over were around my age group. But looking back as an older, wiser 38 year old now, yeesh that stuff was baaaad.

I blame "the media" more than anyone. Guys have always had that attitude and its gross, but mostly talk, especially when it comes to celebrities. But at that period of time there were just so many young girls being treated as sex objects and that kind of locker room guy talk was just normalized. Not letting Kutcher off the hook here as you said, that was his show so he was responsible for that line.

Yeah. "Countdown to 18" shit was incredibly normal back then, and its so weird to look back on now. In fact I actually made a thread celebrating Selena Gomez's legality on this very forum if you dig back far enough in my thread history. That was before I got woke on those kind of issues, and also to be fair I'm only three years old than her. But I was actually called out for it by other users even back then when I made it. Which helped me on my journey.
Its just wild the shit grown ass men could get away with openly saying about 15-17 year olds back then. And never forget how long /r/jailbait openly existed for.

Ashton's eyes in the apology video look like the defendant in the 2001 Law & Order Hubris episode, where the defendant is trying to con a juror. Someone asked early, I can't find the post, if we would be surprised if something came out about Ashton. I would have no doubt something will come out about him.
