Yeah....this person I was talking about described going to a Target store, and not being at ALL sure which bathroom to use, and standing there, in agony, for a good twenty minutes while trying to decide, before saying "Screw it" and using the women's room. Like I said, I can't imagine the mental torture these folks endure day in and day out. Yeah, it can be pretty bizarre. I use male restrooms, because I am a male. But I get strange looks from guys in there all the time, who are not entirely sure they've picked the right one. Or they aren't sure I did. It's pretty amusing at times.

It's certainly an odd issue, but, as it was said before, I have a hard time imagining that anyone would actively CHOOSE to live a life of confusion, anxiety, identity crises, and possibly serious depression/suicidal tendencies.
Going by how society treats them, its hard enough just being homosexual in the world, so I REALLY can't imagine anyone wanting to be transgender, which is why I'm convinced that, somehow, it's something a person is born with and has to come to grips with.
I fully realize it's something I could never understand: I've really never questioned my own sexuality, never felt any curiousity about it, and that's undoubtedly made my life a thousand times easier than a gay person's, or even someone with a shadow of personal doubt.

Precisely. Life is EXTREMELY hard when you're not straight. And it's extremely hard dressing and acting the way I do. Why on earth would I choose to be ridiculed constantly?

It was that same line of thinking that my sister used to finally convince my parents that her sexuality wasn't a choice, but was in fact something that she is, and can't change.

TransGeneration was beautiful show, if only for the matter it exposed what those people went through. Personally, I know I'm female, but I do have some tendencies a bit more on the male side, and I'm completely comfortably with it. I stated this in the Personal Philosophy thread, but I believe that some people should expand their minds a bit more above their horizons. One never knows what form the love of their life or best friend could come in, and I think people just judge too harshly when it comes to things like that.

Everyone judges harshly on things that are differen't from what they've had experience with. They automatically consider it "bad" and make fun of it. It's depressing, really. And that's why there's so many suicides.

Well I'm definitely glad that show came on...it was extremely informative for those who don't understand it or really know anything about it.
But it was just extremely positive and just generally a great show.

A friend of a friend is a Transgendered person. I refer to her as a girl, and treat her along those lines. It's not really a huge issue most of the time, or even any of the time.
But then it's not a huge issue to me, I am confident in my gender and sexuality. Though I get some derogatory jokes for being a "hand-talker," and where I rest my hands on my sides.

The thing is, though, that there most certainly _ARE_ people out there who do choose it, in order to attract attention (of any sort) to themselves, or to piss off and annoy others, or for similar other reasons.
I'm not saying that everyone is like that, because they're not, but I've known the type. Hell, most people think of me as being that way (though it's not true).
I'm personally not comfortable with anything about myself, as far as gender roles and all that go. I don't entirely know who I am or how I feel about it, so I've started thinking of myself as being nothing at all, which is something else I don't enjoy entirely...
It's not an easy thing, and I don't think most people are that way on purpose....for lack of a better term, it's just how their brain is wired.... But I have known people who do certain things just for the attention or to be different...
It's just a matter of finding out what it is to each person.

There ARE some people out there who do it just for the attention, and it's not really a part of who they are. Most aren't that way, but there are certainly some who are. And they upset me quite a bit.

I must say I am both surprised and impressed that there is so much tolerance and understanding on a wrestling message board.

I was very surprised at this when I first showed up here, but I'm not surprised at it these days. The people here are VERY great. I've made a lot of friends here, and I love this place to death.

I feel bad for the people who "choose" to be that way to get attention. the only attention they get is negative attention or the wrong kind of attention. I had a friend in high school that claimed she was bi just to get attention when it was clear she really wasn't.

I had a friend in high school that claimed she was bi just to get attention when it was clear she really wasn't. Well, it's not unheard of among high school girls to pretend to be bi as an attention-grabber. I mean, what teenage guy doesn't immediately turn around and take notice when two girls from his English class are hooking up on the dancefloor at a party? That's the idea. For others, though, it's a more disturbing element: they want attention, ANY attention, even negative or potentially harmful attention, and go to strange lengths to get it, even doing things that are contrary to who they actually are as people.

/\ I'm more thinking of the second group, but yeah, plus it must make it harder for people who actually ARE legit that way because nobody takes it seriously. I have a female friend whose legit bi and because of my other friend who wasn't really bi (and took advantage of my legit bi friend to boot) I had trouble believing she was for real. kinda like how Emo kids make being depressed seem like a joke. Holla if you hear me
