On MSNBC right now. For those who don't understand what that's all about...it's really educational...you should watch.
I'm not trans, but I am an EXTREMELY feminine male, so I understand what they go through with gender identity and stuff.
Just sayin'...if you're interested, there it is.

I feel bad for them, it's hard enough trying to find a place to fit in the world but it must be brutal adding those issues to it.

I feel bad for them, it's hard enough trying to find a place to fit in the world but it must be brutal adding those issues to it. It's definitely hard. As I said, I'm not trans...but being extremely feminine, dealing with gender identity issues when I was younger was an EXTREMELY hard part of my life. Dressing manly, pretending to be manly, just so people wouldn't think I was a freak...it was EXTREMELY hard. Just, generally...it's not an easy life, I can certainly say.

Help me understand, here. Is it like you're a chick, but inside a guy's body? Do you have feelings for men? I'm not trying to be rude or make fun, just trying to understand.

Maybe that's why I get so defensive about gay bashing.
1. It's hard enough being G/L/B/T without people screwing with you...
And...
2. People think that most of the people who live that way CHOOSE a lifestyle filled with self hate, depression, alienation and confusion?
Some might..(and that's ok too) but I doubt the good majority do.

If so, for me...I'm attracted to men, moreso than women. And as far as my femininity...I don't feel like I'm a woman in a man's body. I'm well aware I'm male, and I'm comfy with it, but I've always know that I'm extremely feminine...and I choose to embrace that, rather than hiding it away like I did when I was a child.

Ok....you know that you're a man, but you're attracted to men moreso than women, and you embrace your femininity.
But you're not gay or bi.
I understand moreso now....but am still a bit confused. Thanks for trying to enlighten me a bit, though. It's just, where I currently live, there aren't many TGs around, so meeting someone like you, even if it is on a chatboard, is a truly enlightening experience. I am honored that you would explain things to me, and not brush me off.

Transgendered people feel like a man trapped in a woman's body, or vice versa...and it depends on who they're attracted to whether they identify as gay or bi or straight.

sorry but i find the whole thing a bit creepy, i mean why would any one change there sex? Because some do not feel comfortable in their own gender. I can sympathize...I DO feel comfortable in my own gender, but I DON'T feel comfortable in typical gender roles. But those who don't feel comfy in their own gender are generally depressed, and can end up being suicidal, and will end their own lives if they can't do anything about it. It's not creepy at all.

See, there's this person, whose webcomics I read religiously, who recently came out as TG, and said person decided, that since he couldn't pick a gender, that henceforth he'd only be known by his first initial, and that was the way that all of us on his forum were to refer to him. We were not to use words like "he", or "his" or "Mr", "hers", or "she". It was kinda awkward at first, but I got used to it. My heart went out to this person, as I cannot imagine living my life like that.

I remember that the Sundance Channel made a reality show all about this topic. It's called TransGeneration. It showed the lives of 4 Transgendered college-age students and their struggles in dealing with both college life and in social life trying to adapt to their ideal gender. After seeing a few episodes of that made me truly appreciate the struggles on what they go through, just trying to be a working part of society.
I'll say it right now, those people are braver than I will probably ever be.

I see it as (and please correct me if I'm wrong Dude) simply another kind of birth defect....the body doesn't totally form itself into one or the other genders, or I guess sometimes forms itself different then the gender the person "feels" them to be.

In a sense, I think so. It could be a matter of too much of one hormone or the other, but the body doesn't conform to said hormone. I think that's sorta my case. I mean, I have a pretty feminine frame, characteristics, and mindset, and everything, but I'm a male. I think I just got a huge dose of estrogen when I was still in the womb. But at the same time, I'm not really trans. So who knows?

Yeah....this person I was talking about described going to a Target store, and not being at ALL sure which bathroom to use, and standing there, in agony, for a good twenty minutes while trying to decide, before saying "Screw it" and using the women's room.
Like I said, I can't imagine the mental torture these folks endure day in and day out.
