Hey omg-imadude, Barbara Walters is doing a 20/20 show this Friday on children with trans feelings (commercials are really vague, but I think trans feelings is accurate). I am making two of my friends watch it because they have done research in this issue, as have I (although not in the last 6 months as my classes have taken a turn toward other things). I have read a ton on this topic, it is really interesting. Thanks for posting this and starting the thread. Awesome! Yeah, it's a really interesting subject, and unfortunately grossly misunderstood by a whole lot of the world. No one seems to "get it"...except here apparently. A wrestling board, of all places.

I went to a drag show while vacation in Toronto once. It was pretty fun. I complimented one of the "girls" on "her" performance, and we talked for a few minutes. She squeezed my package before she left. Funny thing was, I was so drunk I didn't realize it until a few moments had passed.

I haven't been to a drag show as of yet, but I plan on doing so once I move out. There's simply nowhere to go to one where I live.

Yeah, it was a pretty ridiculous night. I think I spent about sixty dollars Canadian on booze. Later on that night, she got back on the stage and I knocked over my chair when I got up to go the bathroom, and she made some crack about "Straight Boy from Michigan". I laugh everytime I think about it.

I just read an interesting book that dealt with the "sexual identity" issue from a different situation. A kid in Canada lost his penis due to a botched circumcision, so it was recommended that he be made a girl and raised that way. However, even at ages 2 and 3, he appeared to "know" he was boy. As a young adult, he finally reverted back to being a boy, and actually married. He even appeared on Oprah. Sadly, though, he ended committing suicide. More on it can be found here: slate.msn.com/id/2101678/

Even if that identity happens to match the gender you were born with. So what, his penis was lost? He's still a boy. And if he feels that way, once he let them know that, they should respect that decision. Parents really upset me sometimes.

i have a lot of trans, gay and bi friends, and my girlfriend is very active in that community. My friend actually did a documentary about drag queens (loosely related). I think if you do a search for "Queens of New York", you can watch it online, its only like 10 minutes long.
I hate to hear the horror stories of suicides, disownments and such. We seem to value hate so much that we forget that love is unconditional. I remember when my uncle (or aunt, whichever he feels like being called) came out. Some of the family stopped talking to him, and at a young age, i didnt understand it. Hell, i dont understand now how you could just lose care over someone because of their sexuality, something that COMPLETELY doesnt effect anybody but them.

Yeah, seriously. A homophobic wrestling fan is just like...inherently contradictory. I'm sorry, but it IS homoerotic to an extent. I don't find most wrestlers attractive at ALL. But even so...COME ON. Half naked guys getting close? Even if it is to fight? It's true.

A bunch of sweaty, shirtless, bald guys rubbing up against eachother, without a techno record in sight."

Homophobic Wrestling Fan....Why does the name Jim Hellwig ring a bell?
Anyways, back on the topic at hand. I'll be watching, if not for the fact that this has sorta been a really wierd week for me in both my emotional state and the state of my school. I guess I need something to sorta cap this week off, then I can re-evaluate the week and see if this has been one of the most memorable weeks in my life. It seems to look that way though.

I was about to come straight here to see the new stuff, but I found something on MSN.com that fits this topic perfectly. Accomplished Sportswrite for the Los Angelas Times, Michael Penner, has "Came Out" as it were and admitted that his brain has been "wired for female capacity" and decided it was time to embrace that. He wrote a very emotional column and had been getting rave reviews throughout the company. He's taking a vacation, but when he does come back from surgery, he'll still have a job and will still be writing. Here's the link to the MSN.com story. msn.foxsports.com/other/story/6743034?MSNHPHCP>1=9331

I know they always have their little "any similarities are coincidental" disclaimer on after every episode that should be a dead give-away, but I had no idea it was based on a true story this time. Amazing stuff.

I didn't see the show, but I feel compelled to write in this topic anyway... 'cause I'm kinda dating a pre-op MtF transsexual. And by kinda dating, I mean "been with her for 2 years and counting".
So yeah, it's hard, but the hardships can be attenuated somewhat (yet never completely) if you're with people that accept you for who you are, and are willing to support you emotionally in all your choices.

I'll add that to the list, right under people who have had strokes.
