I still wonder how so many want to work there or these says want to sign with them knowing how this is? Yes I know money and stuff but is all of that worth the headaches if your not allowed at all to get over on your own? That was great about the 90s and ext. If a wrestler wants to do something, they get to do it and if it worked they get pushed. I think about Steve Austin and what wonder what would happened in today's WWE if he came in off the indies. WWE offers them opportunities and big money and they're the most famous wrestling promotion in history, and working on the indies rather than with AEW or NJPW is not in any way a secure job. No matter how bad WWE gets, and how well known that is, I will never question any worker going to WWE if they get an offer. There’s still the sentimentality of it of having finally hit the big time after working so hard on the indie scene getting yourself notice so yeah, I’m the same way in that regard. Unless more companies spring up able to offer that same level of income and exposure, that’s how it will be. It does make the brick walls WWE puts in front of their talent even more confusing, though. You see what works, you’re partnered with companies that have seen what works with them...go with that. If it doesn’t work, USA and FOX aren’t suddenly going to go “Well, F***, time to end these TV deals and show reruns of Law and Order and 24 and lose viewers in those slots” because that’s not how anything works.

This is why I can’t watch this company anymore. It’s completely pointless to get invested in anyone on the roster because they all live and die by Vince’s hand. Doesn’t matter if they get over or if their merchandise is selling, if Vince doesn’t like them, or doesn’t ‘get’ them, or changes his mind about them, there’s nothing they can do about it. Even NXT isn’t completely safe from it, because there’s always the chance that they get traded to Raw or Smackdown and everything they did before goes right out the window.
The saddest thing about this for me is... when I stopped watching about a year and a half ago, I told myself I would come back if Rusev ever became a World Champion. After he was let go it obviously wasn’t going to happen, but after reading about this, it was obviously never going to happen even if he hadn’t been let go!

"Vince McMahon is a millionaire who should be a billionaire."
This is exhibit 583a dispelling the myth that Vince is a talented businessman and not just a lucky SOB who happened to have competition stupider than he was in the '90s. Think about how much potential revenue the man has slammed the door on in the last 15 years in merchandise sales, tickets, show buys, Network subscriptions, ad prices based on ratings, etc., just because he doesn't want his own fans to have a say in what's popular. If there were a way to estimate an actual dollar amount in lost profit, it would be appalling.
Honestly, it's like he resents being forced into a corner during the Monday Night Wars and delusionally thinks he can now comfortably say F-you and not let fans dictate his creative direction ever again. His audience is evaporating and he doesn't seem to get why.

It doesn't matter how over you are with the audience.
If you're not over with Vince, you're not over.

When asked by Ryback if he is truly done, Rusev said he's just hurt right now. It is unknown if Rusev will return to the world of wrestling at some point in the future." I think this is the saddest part of it. The guy has loads of ability & charisma, plenty of fans who’d love to cheer him, and he’d almost for sure be a draw for AEW, Impact or whomever. Yet it sounds like WWE broke his spirit to the point that he just doesn’t have the heart for it right now. I hope that changes, & it sounds like he’s not closing the door on the possibility, but I certainly can’t fault him for feeling that way. That said, there’s a part of me wondering if he’s already planning his comeback, but knowing how petty Vince can be, just isn’t saying anything right now lest it cause problems for Lana. I’d have to think other promotions have at least reached out to him.

I think about Steve Austin and what wonder what would happened in today's WWE if he came in off the indies. I mean, we kind of got that. He came in as The Ringmaster. And even when he won the KOTR in 1996, it wasn’t until Bret wanted to work with him near the end of the year that they actually did something with the guy. In modern WWE, he probably wouldn’t have gotten beyond The Ringmaster. An amusing aside... I wasn’t really watching WWF during the rise of Stone Cold, & didn’t know anything about the Ringmaster gimmick until probably 2000 or thereabouts. So when I first read about it, I thought, “Really? They first tried to give Austin a circus ringmaster gimmick?” Of course, considering it was still New Gen, & how Vince booked guys then (& now)... would it have really shocked anyone?

I really hope Miro changes his mind and finds his passion for wrestling again. I'd love to see the big lug in AEW or Impact. I also think he'd be a huge attraction in New Japan once travel restrictions open up.

I so infrequently lurk in the WWE section because I tuned out long enough ago that I don't know anything about this Rusev Day stuff. Last time I watched (before shit like described in the OP drove me away after watching since the mid- 80's), Rusev looked like a good hand in the ring, was a little stiff on the mic, and struck me as a genuinely likable guy IRL. Of course, I've seen the Rusev Day references, but had no idea what they were about. I assumed it was from some ridiculous segment "honoring" Rusev that the fans took to in one manner or another, but my disdain for the company had gotten to the level where my revulsion at the company was never weaker than my curiosity about the phrase.

He wasn't literally a ringmaster. It was a pun. He was just an intense technical wrestler.

It's just this hella positive thing that caught on. Like every day is Rusev Day when you're Rusev, ya know? Today is Rusev Day. Tomorrow is Rusev Day. Halloween also happens to be on Rusev Day. Every day is your day. It was nice to have a positive message. Fans took to it all hella hard. Merch was everywhere. Chants. People were so into this. Then... nothing. As the phrase got more popular, Rusev started getting pushed back more and more.

Rusev: "The fans are chanting 'Rusev Day'." Vince: "They're only doing that to f*** with you." Rusev: "My shirts sold out." Vince: "They didn't make enough."
Basically... Rusev: "I'm over." Vince: "I don't give damn how over you are! You're not someone I want over and you aren't getting a push, pal!"

I don’t wear wrestling shirts. In fact, I don’t actually wear T-shirt’s. I ordered a Rusev Day shirt as he captured my attention like nobody has since the attitude era. He definitely deserved more.
Water is wet. Grass is green. Vince is insane.

I don’t know if it’s necessarily that Rusev got himself over that didn’t register w/ Vince. It’s probably that he got himself over as a lovable face. Vince thought he had purchased a Bulgarian Brute Action Figure.

Vince thought he had purchased a Bulgarian Brute Action Figure. I feel like this is the explanation for a lot of the major fails of Vince's booking. He doesn't see a broken-nosed Brit or a Bulgarian bear or a vlogger or a short Vegan or a Ghanan high flyer or a soft-spoken bald Swiss guy as a top face, so they can only be a top face if the show would collapse otherwise.
