This is on Amazon Prime so I'm I'm rewatching it.
It's a shame that it's both Connery's last movie and drove Alan Moore off adaptations altogether (for wildly different reasons of course).
It's not great and barely has anything to do with the comics of course, but at the same time I wouldn't call it a bad movie either
As a standard action adventure film it's right in the middle of fine in my view. It's nothing you're gonna love&is pretty disposable but I never regret the 2 hours either

I liked it.
Captain Nemo in particular was excellent.

I liked it just fine. It's not a classic, but it is a decent enough film.

I can only imagine the mental breakdowns of regular folks who saw the movie, liked it, and realized later "Oh, there's a comic book, let's read it."

Main thing I remember about this movie was a comment by James Rolfe that apparently one of the characters in the movie is referred to as "An Invisible Man" because Universal had the copyright to refer to somebody as "The Invisible Man" based on their 1933 horror movie.
Dunno if it is really true but if it is...another case of silly copyright protection.

IIRC they have some line in the movie about how he stole the invisibility formula from the original Invisible Man.

Kinda preferred it over the comic. Was just a fun romp in general with some good action to it.

I enjoyed it.
Never read the comic. But the movie was fun, but I remember thinking it would be better as a TV show.

I'll be honest the comic is a great way to put yourself off the notion that everything Alan Moore did was good. Self indulgent twaddle with hideous artwork that gradually became the comic equivalent of an old man yelling at a cloud.

I love the comics for the main reason that it is a prime example of Alan Moore's hypocrisy. "People who adapt my works tarnishes it and they don't get what I was trying to say" ALSO {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Here's Pollyanna getting raped by the Invisible Man.

I saw the film and was like meh it's not horrible. Got the TPB of the comic cheap. REad it and wow so far it's the only bad thing from Moore I have read. Ended up giving the TPB away to a friend.

I thought it was kind of a mess, to be honest. It had the potential to be very interesting and had some very decent aspects to it (including a stellar cast), but it was both too busy and convoluted. They either needed to lengthen it to improve the pacing (in order to help people absorb the story's twists and turns better) or simplify it a little.

I will say a large reason I hate the art is that it's the same guy who does Marshall Law, which is also mostly garbage but for completely different reasons.

The producers even admitted they more or less spent their whole casting budget on Connery. Naseeruddin Shah and Richard Roxburgh are great actors and did their damndest to elevate the material, but everybody else really felt like they would've been second or third choices at best and their performances kinda reflected that. Plus Stuart Townsend has always been an appalling actor.

I know she definitely was better than that.
