I'm leaning this will be a non-story. I just don't see NJPW bending to the will like other companies throughout WWE's history. It's not like ECW where without WWE would have been out of business long before WWE bought them. NJPW has a strong foot print in their own market, so anything WWE tries to push as too far will be laughed out of the board room.

This would be a great move for the WWE (not so much NJPW) but I don't see it ever happening

NJPW is pretty desperate right now with COVID and other stuff ravaging their roster. You never know if they say yes or not

This isn't about a relationship, it's about putting their boot on their throat to keep them down

It’s a business, pal.
I get people being paranoid but this feels a lot like when Playstation fans talked for years about how exclusives are the only reason to buy a console and then when Microsoft bought Bethesda to make exclusives the conversation shifted to “Exclusives are anti-consumer!”
Let’s see what happens if anything happens at all

The very first match announced is Jon Moxley vs. Seth Rollins!
Moxley:
All kidding aside, I don't know exactly what to think of this. But I'm also thinking of how much I wanna see WALTER vs. Suzuki, Naito or Okada vs. Orton and so many other matches...

New Japan want to expand into the US, the carrot of cross promoted shows with the WWE would be tempting, but the WWE also want to get into Japan and the damage they did to British Wrestling has to be fresh in the mind.

I'd be disappointed if this didn't end up happening.

The more acurate example would be Epic Store paying off games to not be on Steam, which was also wildly unpopular, costly and seem as sketchy business.

That would be great. I’m sure Bryan would be more interested in signing if he could work New Japan as well. If this is true, I wonder if Bryan is the big reason WWE is doing it? Maybe this gets Bryan to re-sign (and away from AEW) if he could go over to Japan for a bit.

I get people being paranoid but this feels a lot like when Playstation fans talked for years about how exclusives are the only reason to buy a console and then when Microsoft bought Bethesda to make exclusives the conversation shifted to “Exclusives are anti-consumer!” Let’s see what happens if anything happens at all That's...a wildly simplified version of what happened with that along with not being a fair comparison. To try and put a broad subject simply, Sony had a better relationship with first party partners (whether through aquisitions or partnerships) to be able to produce games to sell itself and had to also rebuild itself after the PS3 debacle and how hard it was to develop for. What ended up happening was a lot of original IPs being produced and being successful, Uncharted, The Last of Us, LittleBigPlanet etc. Microsoft...could not do this. Whether it was through incompetence or just not being sure how to deal with some teams, it resulted in games coming out that were forgotten about and basically hoping Halo and Gears of War (their only two franchises of any note right now) would ride them across. Heck, one game went so badly in development, Platinum Games almost died and had to be bailed out by Nintendo. So acquiring companies already good at that sort of thing and letting them get on with it, well, makes sense. And Bethesda was probably going to get picked up sooner or later by someone so it might as well be somewhere where the PC market can be easily accessed via Steam deals or the Microsoft Store or whatever. If you were to use it here, it'd be like if AEW had been acquiring companies and letting them do their thing whilst WWE's not able to do that stuff themselves so instead acquire smaller companies and copying the Sony model for deveopment. Which, I mean, that hasn't been the case since 2001.

This is just leading to Khan vs Khan - NJPW on a pole match. Russo was right!

Oof, salt in the wound of this Super Mega Baseball superfan. I mean...two large, prominent wrestling companies working together isn't such a bad thing on paper. It wouldn't even hurt AEW too terribly much because they would just continue their partnerships with DDT, Ice Ribbon, etc... And a lot of the NJPW guys they've used, like Romero, are on non-exclusive deals, anyway. About the only negative is that Ibushi would become unavailable. But, like, I just don't see a scenario where this doesn't lead to Okada winning the US Title and dressing up like Uncle Sam or something. WWE just doesn't have a great track record with this kind of thing.
