So in wrestling there's a lot of ways you can kill your career as a wrestler. A whole bunch of things that you can do in the ring or out of the ring that you will never, ever live down. I want to know what you think the dumbest is.
In my estimation it's got to be Austin Aries. He had a hell of a run post WWE with most people agreeing that he was severely underused, he was winning titles all over the world, and then he went and ruined it all for himself by ruining the end of Impact's biggest show of the year by no selling the finish, because he got so bent out of shape OVER A SHORT JOKE! Since then most companies won't touch him, due to his temper and lack of professionalism.
Is there any that top that one?

Big Cass, the man who really, really wanted to beat up a midget.

Making Kobe Bryant rape jokes certainly was one way.

Joey Styles. after being released by WWE in 2016 (a very contentious election year) he tried to find new life in the indies, went to work for EVOLVE, and on their most important show in a long while (their first for a new ippv distributor) he not only violated the booker's edict about no political jokes, he violated it by directing towards the female ring announcer an extremely infamous sexual assault quote said by the then president elect.
Styles wasn't just fired by EVOLVE for that, he got dropped by CHIKARA and Beyond, and walked away from wrestling as a result

Let New Jack blade you.
Tape locker room conversations.
Shoot on Kurt Angle.

When they say don't do more than like one spot to this little person, you instead decide to beat them up for a really long time.

For real though, I think Big Cass's uh, incidents with the little people backstage at WWE were the first red flags that something wasn't right with him.
I'm glad he's able to get a second chance with Impact as W. Morrissey, at least.

I still don't know what the hell went on with that Impact title match Aries/Morrison/Mundo had real heat and they decided to use it in a program. They both was professional to work the match and even had a spot involving Taya if I remember correctly. They do the finish and Aries just gets up and leaves, leaving everyone confused like what the f*** was that I want to say Callis tried to play it off like it was the plan and said they would bring Aries back but it never happened. That was like a final straw for everyone. Doesn't help in recent years he's still an ass on social media as well

Add into that being an asshole on twitter (including a hilariously hypocritical post calling Sami Callihan a glory hog) there's little upside to signing him. Especially now that there's many people who do what he does but better.

Let New Jack blade you. Tape locker room conversations. Shoot on Kurt Angle. One of these things is not like the others (i.e., is 100% WWE and Angle's fault), unless there's another example of it I'm forgetting.

That guy who was a jobber for one week on AEW DARK who decided to make a giant stink about his pay for working that taping on Twitter the literal week Brodie Lee passed away.

Honestly, it looks like "Tape Locker room conversations" is the odd one out, since that's the only one that can't be framed as a veteran taking liberties with some rookie.

There was that indie worker who leaked spoilers about taped episodes of AEW Dynamite in order to get an "in" with WWE. Think the guy was just used as a jobber on NXT before getting cut last week.

I think the pay dispute was about a pre-pandemic date, too. Like, even if he had a legit grievance (AFAIK, it wasn't), it's something he chose to sit on for months until the tragic death of one of the apparent kindest guys in the industry rocked the entire wrestling world.

Nailz trying to choke Vince was up there. Yeah, other places did book him after, but it never lasted, probably because he was f***ing awful, anyway.

Seeing this thread reminded me of someone who was employed by WWE quite a few years ago, to the point where I had to head for the LOLWWE archive and get the entry I wrote for them to post here. Ladies and gentlemen, Amy Zidian. Styles wasn't just fired by EVOLVE for that, he got dropped by CHIKARA and Beyond, and walked away from wrestling as a result He was straight-up unpersoned in Chikara, to the point where his roster page redirects to an "access denied" page. Petty as hell reaction, but considering it was Mike Quackenbush, not surprising.

I would think Van Hammer getting pissed over his fake military rank/pot joke name and walking out over it has to be up there.

Going on a racist rant on your secretly recorded sex tape with the wife of a radio DJ has got to be high in the running.
