Career Killed is the topic. If Hogan's career was killed he wouldn't be in the highest profile wrestling fed in the world. Was his career hurt...yes. But killed....nope. I think it depends on which career you're thinking about. The WWE will always dust him off for wrestling related things because he's a big name and he needs them. His career as a pop/nostalgia culture figure is probably dead though, he's never getting another reality TV show, his advertising opportunities are few and far between and so on and so forth. At this point in life he would have made more money from those deals than he does from the WWE, he'd be on his way to becoming another Hoff/Shatner like figure had he kept his mouth shut and not boned his friend's wife, now he's the racist former pro wrestler who sued Gawker and only makes the news when he says something horrible, like Covid being God's wrath. Then there's saying that the friend of his son was "not right with God" which was why he was in a near death state after the car accident both were in.

Whatever Big Andy did to piss off someone in WWE, whether it was Austin or Vince during his time on Tough Enough. I guess he did some stuff with WWE Developmental but I don't think he was ever seen on TV after been stunned and obviously embarrassed. It's strange WWE would put so much effort into making a show only to make their pick worthless with an Austin beating. Austin was probably the worst pick for a head trainer or whatever his position was that season, probably even worse than Holly, DeMott, Ivory, Jackie or Tazz because he was way too big of a star in wrestling to be able to properly communicate with these kids which is obvious by his mocking of "Silent Rage" and reaction to "Melina versus Alicia Fox." During the time someone, maybe on this board commented what if a tough enough contestant had said "Savio Vega versus Ringmaster?" as someone's favorite match is obviously their own personal choice and Austin didn't know the relationship between Cameron and Alicia. Has steve ever talked about this? I always felt his reaction was excessive on that one

Has steve ever talked about this? I always felt his reaction was excessive on that one I'm sure WWE told him to amp up his persona for the show but his reaction to the Alicia/Melina match seemed legit but even back then I remember someone, may have been on this board saying what if someone had said Ringmaster/Savio Vega? I think Steve's been around long enough that he should have thought better to destroy a guy who won the Tough Enough season in just a few seconds on the company's main show. It not only makes WWE look like fools for picking Andy, it makes the whole show look stupid but back then I think he was a different person. Now he seems to reach out to guys for podcasts. Back then he didn't mind humiliating WCW and ECW guys coming to WWF in 2001 and I think despite his fame and fortune was probably pretty bitter he struggled for so long while a lot of guys, Andy/some WCW/ECW wrestlers included seemed to have things a bit easier. And he would use his spot on the card to humiliate them.

Making Kobe Bryant rape jokes certainly was one way. His entrance music actually spits that as a lyric. It’s probably not surprising the only footage of him is in high school gyms.

Now I see it brought up I figure I will link to this...it is absoloutley great insight into that season of tough enough and I highly disagree you that Austin was the worst pick no infact he was the best pick but this interview sheds way more light on the season. This entire channel is mostly devoted to talking to people from that season of tough enough and it is fasinating from the showrunner here to the competitors.

Being booked in a shoot boxing match and losing to a professional boxer. Bart Gunn who went on to wrestle extensively for All-Japan? This thread is turning into, "Guys who had bad things happen to them at some point." With no correlation to career health.

Fair enough but it didn't do him any favors and I don't recall his Japan being that all that amazing. How about calling the crowd names without clearing it?

Fair enough but it didn't do him any favors and I don't recall his Japan being that all that amazing. He wrestled there for 4 years and held their top tag title, which they didn't put on just anybody (and this was before the NOAH crew split off, to boot). Plus All-Japan did a better job capitalizing on his BFA success and history with Doc than the WWF ever did. It's not like Bart Gunn's career in the States was "all that amazing," either.

Back in 1991, Bill Watts did an interview with PW Torch and made these comments: - “If you want a business and you put money in, why shouldn’t you be able to discriminate? It’s your business,”
- “That’s why I went into business, so that I could discriminate.”
- “I can’t tell a fag to get the f*** out. I should have the right to not associate with a fag if I don’t want to. I mean, why should I have to hire a f***in’ fag, if I don’t like fags? Fags discriminate against us, don’t they? Sure they do.”
- “Who’s killed more blacks than anyone? The f***in’ blacks. But they want to blame that bullshit Roots that came on the air. That Roots was so bullshit. All you have to do if you want slaves is to hand beads to the chiefs and they gave you slaves. What is the best thing that has ever happened to the black race? That they were brought to this country. No matter how they got here. You know why? Because they intermarried and got educated. They’re the ones running the black race.”
- “Lester Maddox was right. If I don’t want to sell fried chicken to blacks I shouldn’t have to. It’s my restaurant. Hell, at least I respect him for his stand.”
Maddox catapulted to infamy in 1964 while operating a chicken and burger restaurant in Atlanta at which he refused to serve blacks. He also drove them from his restaurant with a pistol and pickax in hand. He closed his business after a federal court ruled that he must integrate the facility. In 1994, Mark Madden brought the interview to the attention of Hank Aaron. Mr. Aaron — who, at this point, was not only a baseball legend and a prominent civil rights figure, but also an important executive with Turner Broadcasting — petitioned to have Watts fired. Or Watts quit for other reasons, if you want to believe his word. Either way, Watts was out and Ole Anderson was in, albeit temporarily. Not long after, Turner decided to go with a choice outside the box, Eric Bischoff. "Easy E" went on to fire Anderson, take WCW to Monday nights to compete with the WWF, and eventually change the entire wrestling business. This has gotta be one of the absolute worst. Watts was such a piece of shit.

This is far from the first time I've read excerpts from this interview and it never fails to get progressively more horrifying each and every time.

Watts was such a piece of shit. prowrestling.net/artman/publish/WWE/article1005219.shtmlPaul Heyman's visit to the United Nations for the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust was chronicled in a Slam Wrestling piece written by former WWE creative team member Ranjan Chibber. In the article, Heyman accuses WWE Hall of Fame inductee Bill Watts of making anti-Semitic statements when Heyman worked for Watts in WCW. "I'd never met Watts before," Heyman recalled. "The first time I met him was when he became the head of WCW. We weren't two minutes into our conversation when he asked me where my beanie was [referring in an offensive way to a yarmulke]. He then started comparing me to a manager back in the day called Izzy Slapowitz." Heyman half-laughed, "I could see we were really going to get along just great!" After a televised wrestling show, the ratings came in, and Watts was livid," Heyman continued. "This was during the storyline with Maduca Miceli. "Our segment was the highest rated segment of that program ... and Watts says -- in front of a room full of people -- how pissed off it makes him that a Jew and a c*** drew the highest rating of the show. He felt it was the downfall of the wrestling business."
