Looks alright but I agree that it really doesn't look all that different from any other open world gangster game.

Also that cat helmet should've 100% been a Professor Genki helmet.

I'm also in the camp that prefers 3 and 4 over 2. SR1 and 2 were well-meaning GTA clones with better combat because Volition doesn't have a stick up its ass about that like Rockstar does. But I feel like 3 is where the series really started to set itself apart. And outside of a retread of Steelport with only minor differences, I loved how batshit insane SR4 was. The superpowers were a ton of fun, too. Like, no disrespect to any fans of 2 but every time I looked at 2, I just thought “Oh, this is just GTA without the Rockstar budget, I’ll just play GTAV or try out 4”. The Third just grabbed me just because it was dumb and knew it was dumb. 4 was good and I love the mission structure being really easy to go through but it didn’t have what 3 had. I guess I’m just ready to see more and yeah, I’d like to see the characters come back somehow but on the other hand, we’d likely just go “Oh, they’re just doing this all again” because there was no way they were going to properly follow up the ending of 4. Like, I can imagine that development would be hell to pull off.

A good way to keep doing something new but not leave the old fans behind IMO would be in a very Saints Row f***ery is just have this be part of a multiverse that way they can make multiple games revolving around the different characters.
Or ya know just have the story be the original saints got turned into kids after some pact with satan or something...and it involves Professor Genki somehow as Satan.

What, Agents of Mayhem wasn’t good enough?! It had Kenzie in it! Ungreatful. If I were with Volition, I’d probably pitch the idea of DLC where there’s a crossover with the old characters, just something fun to bridge the gap between the two.

I think I might be on board with it. It's only one trailer so far, but lots of hardcore SR1&2 fans are online complaining about it. It's only a trailer. There might be others down the road. As for other games in the franchise, I will say that the only one of the series that I haven't played is the first game. I never owned a 360. I started with SR2 and still love that game. However, unlike some Saints Row fans, I enjoy 3 and 4.
Regarding Saints Row IV, I can talk about the game's problems. Not just how off-the-rails it had gotten, whether it's the sci-fi theme, how cartoony it became, and that it was clear that it was DLC, which was why the map of Steelport was reused with some modifications, as well as some character models from Saints Row: The Third were reused (For example, Shaundi had her SR3 model in some sequences with the tight pants, the crop top with the small jacket; same with Johnny, Kinzie, Matt, and Pierce having their SR3 models). I could go on about some of the problems, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't like the game. I still have fun with the game despite how different from the previous games it was. Is it my favorite of the franchise? No, but I still enjoy the game.
Also, some fans of SR2 annoy me with how they say "The Boss wouldn't have taken all of that shit if he/she were like the SR2 Boss." Personally, as much as I like SR2, I didn't really like how ruthless that version of the Boss was. Some of the stuff that happened rubbed me the wrong way, whether it was blowing up Matt's hand (I mean Matt from SR2, not Matt Miller) or using that female bartender as a human shield. Yes, people can talk about the scene when they bury Shogo alive, but that was mainly Johnny giving that guy a brutal beatdown and if you watch that cutscene, The Boss was a bit uncomfortable in some areas. Which is why I didn't mind how The Boss in the third game had eased up a tad. Yes, the person is still a killer, but not as much of sociopath as the SR2 version was.

What I like about the first 3 games from a narrative sense is how it is basically all 1 story.
You go from a nobody just wanting to join the saints in the first game
Second one is your redemption and learning what a real piece of shit Julius was(that is the best part of the 2nd game IMO (but entirely optional to seek this out which was a weird choice)
And the 3rd is basking and enjoying the fruits of your murderous ways for the most part.

Nah, we need Robin Atkin Downes back as a boss voice. You don’t get much better at voicing the boss than him.

Saints Row 2 I didn't think felt like a GTA Clone with a lack of budget at all, they upped the let's just make it more cartoonish more or less in response to GTA4's trying too hard to be a simulation especially with the driving. Also I preferred alot of the minigame/sidequests in SR 2 compared to 3... and I liked 3 but things like the Zombie section seemed less like they wanted it there for any other reason than we needed a zombie section in the game cause everyone has zombies. 4. was alright but I felt it was trying way too hard to be look how ZANY we are!

Was disappointed that it looks like none of the regulars are in this game. Then I thought well... Who gives a f*** about Pierce? Almost as disappointed that apparently nobody on FAN remembers the opening to Saints Row 3

I loved 3...... I just couldn't get into 4. I'll definitely be down for this though.

I just got a Saints Row game finally the other week, got The Third Remastered, been having fun.
I don't care for this trailer, just looks like a mish mash of other current video games in one. Like if I get done 3, probably would check out IV or see how the serious SR was with 1 or 2. But I do like the over the topness of SR3 so far.

SR2 is still my favourite, for its customisability alone. But 3 isn't far behind and while I had fun with 4 it became a bit too silly and you were absolutely overpowered in that game. Vehicles were basically useless with the ability of flight. So, I don't mind them doing a reboot and toning down aspects of the game, I just hope this pretty bland trailer doesn't do the game any justice.

Why does this look like a Ubisoft game trailer?
I'm glad it's getting rebooted as I was not a fan of 3 or 4, but I still need to see more (especially gameplay) before even thinking about it.

Honestly, you can probably skip SR 1, that was more or less a straight GTA clone, 2 is when they started doing their own thing.

The only reason to play SR1 is because there is a pivotal plot that comes out of SR1 but if the story is not something they really care about then yea skip SR1 as it is a rather slow and quite frankly uneventful game.
