Super-heavyweights such as the late greats Yokozuna, Vader and Earthquake were considered athletic and in shape, in spite of being obese had good cardio and became champions in their sport.

King Duggan - the All American Monarchist. For those history buffs out there, he is representing the ideology the founding fathers tried to break away from while still parading around as a blue collar patriot.

Not to keep piling on the Bulldogs, but the Wembley Summerslam match being considered for greatness, pretty much the entire match was Bret wrestling himself and Davey Boy doing very little.
Cornette is pretty much walking & talking irony when it comes to AEW as he seems to actually like most of the product, but is so vocal about Omega, The Bucks and the multi man matches it seems like he hates everything.

My big takeaway from this thread is that like half of you don't actually know what irony is based on your replies.

Eh, they were probably humoring him, like when people would dress up as Napoleon and act crazy in old cartoons.

Simon Gotch seriously buries Enzo Amore, especially at 9:28... and i had finally got that video out of my suggested videos on youube Weirdly, everyone memes about it, but I've seen in there exactly once. The only wrestling video I ever get suggested are match/segment clips or stuff from channels like Cultaholic and WhatCulture. Edit: after posting, I went to check what my current recs are. That video wasn't there, but apparently I'm getting Cornette recs now, which is worrying. What have I watched to make Google think I care what that old croc thinks?

Wasn't Davey high on crack? LOL That's the rumor I heard, but seriously, I don't like the idea that it was a carry job. High or not, it does take two to tango. Just by watching the match, is there any way to tell if Davey Boy was in an altered state of consciousness? It's not like he was Jeff Hardy at Victory Road, or Jake Roberts at Heroes of Wrestling. If they thought he was too doped out to perform, why send him out there to begin with?

I can't find the interview but Bret more or less confirmed that Davey had been on a bender the night before and was still recovering. Bret was upset at him not only for being reckless the night before the biggest match of his career but because he had gone out of his way to plan the match out the previous days together and when he asked Davey if he knew what they were going to do he couldn't remember anything. So Bret told him to just listen to him once they got out there and guided/called him through it.

Davey HAD been on a massive crack binge, and when it came to showtime he said to Bret “I’ve forgotten everything we discussed” which is where the Bret said “just listen to me” quote stems from. To the best of our knowledge, Bulldog was with us in mind and body, just not in memory.

I pointed this out in the other thread.
Rock n Roll Express “old” in 97 (they were both in their early 40s.) and we’re consider lame but they have had such longevity in wrestling and now they actually are physically old they have never looked more bad ass.

If I had never heard the rumor, I would never even think he was messed up.

like Kane on your wedding day? Or a Last Ride when you've already paid. They call it last ride but they keep getting it so it isn’t exactly the “last” ride. More inconsistent than ironic. My big takeaway from this thread is that like half of you don't actually know what irony is based on your replies.

Not that I think his account is wrong by any means, but there a whole other person's perspective of that match we'll never have.

Vince McMahon is a member of the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, but is still yet to be inducted in his own WWE Hall of Fame.

Brock Lesner is billed as the MMA Crossover megastar despite Lashley having more wins and more matches than he did in the sport. (Granted you could argue that Brock being in the UFC had a greater quality of opponents, but at least at first glance. Lashley had the more impressive record.)

In real life Beer Money had the opposite gimmicks. James Storm was more interested in investing and Robert Roode was more into beer.
One of them said that in an interview but i can't remember which one.

WWE has had many Evil Soviet gimmicks, but the only 2 people to actually be born in the USSR are Vladimir Kozlov (Ukrainian) and Marina Shafir (Moldovan). Ilja Dragunov gets the gimmick sometimes but was born after the Union fell.

CM Punk, the straight-edge superstar looks like a meth addict. Also, his character is suppose to be anti-establishment, yet he has a tattoo of the Pepsi logo. Plus, Pepsi has caffeine in it.
On January 4th, 1999, WCW commentator Tony Schiavone told viewers at home not to switch to RAW(which was taped 6 days earlier) because Mick Foley was going to win the WWF championship, had 600,000 viewers changed the channel to see the hardcore legend dethrone The Rock.
The only two Europeans to hold the European Championship were The British Bulldog and William Regal - both from England.
Considered by some to be a "white man's sport," the most successful pro wrestler of all time is arguably The Rock - who is mixed between African American and Pacific Islander.
Despite holding the record for most championship reigns of any wrestler, in his 20 plus year tenure in WWF/E, Jerry "The King" Lawler has never won a championship there.
