No one sees Big E or Rhea on that same level right now. In WWE, just holding a belt means very little because they do not respect their own belts. It’s how you’re portrayed as champion. Rhea’s title run was botched, they fed her to Charlotte again for a second straight year for stupid reasons, and she has not been booked as a “big deal” since then. Big E spent most of his title reign getting beaten up. So no, WWE does not have a crop of new stars built up enough at this point right now. And it makes their product tedious to watch. Ripley and Big E could credibly win their Rumbles and then win the titles at Mania and it would be believable. They’re not buried or anything.

In pure kayfabe, wouldn't it have made all the sense in the world for E, Lashley, and Owens to just f*** off while Seth Rollins destroys Lesnar? Like... the guy literally squashed him at WM and there aren't exactly rules in multiman matches

Remember last time Roman got sick for a PPV and they threw a bunch of make-good shit, had the weird surprise return of Kurt Angle: Member Of The Shield and had that banger Finn vs. AJ match to make up for Bray also being out? How they lost Roman on the card and decided to make some changes that made for a better show? This feels like the hard opposite of that. Vince saw a bad situaiton adn went "Hey what if I make Roman vs. Brock at Mania title vs. title and slit the throat of Big E's push and bled it out into a goblet on an altar like he was a goat who sneezed around me" Yep... Apparently reports are that Big E was supposed to win this match. When Reigns got Covid and couldn't do the Lesnar match (which earlier reports said that they were going to do some angle to setup something for their WM match) Vince threw Lesnar in this one, sacrificed Big E and everyone else and now Lesnar's got the belt. That'll probably lead to that title vs title. Big E didn't lose the belt because of how his push had gone because there's even flyers/results saying he defeated the other dudes in that match before Lesnar got added. It was already planned for him to win. He lost it because for some reason Vince wanted to keep giving Lesnar and Reigns more stuff for their feud so when Covid came into play, he took a hit. It really didn't have anything to do with how his reign had been prior. Sad honestly. Nobody knew it would turn out like that until the day it happened. Good for Lesnar and Reigns but bad for not only Big E but also for Rollins and Owens too. Lashley's getting a Lashley Rumble match but that's about it. It's actually similar to how Asuka was sacrificed for the Becky/Charlotte/Ronda stuff years ago. She was SD champion but then lost to Charlotte because they were setting up Becky's huge WM win to where she's holding 2 belts. It was only done to prop up whatever lead feud they have regardless of brand.

Even with Big E scheduled to retain at Day 1, I still think there was a pretty good chance he would have lost the title before Mania.

Really I think getting the title off Big E was probably for the better anyway because it really just wasn't working and there weren't really any interesting challengers available, but I sure as f*** wouldn't have given it to Lesnar.

At the very least, Big E will get a chance to get another run in the future but he drew the short end of the stick which wasn't his fault
Tho if you telling me it takes a Big E loss for Lashley/Brock to happen then I would go with the latter

I'm just tired of this. It always goes back to Lesnar. I'm just done with it at this point. No doubt he'll lose it in a 5 minute match that looks the same as all his other matches.
Big E could have been a great champion but his booking was so poor. Once again missing on a can't miss prospect.

More info on this.
Meltzer said on SI that Rollins was scheduled to win this by pinning E but then another positive test came in. Given that and scheduled reports that Big E was gonna win this too (as of until Lesnar was thrown in the match) basically Big E, Owens and Rollins all got screwed. When Rollins and then Big E are scheduled to win but then you throw Lesnar in the match you know what that means. SRS said that he was told that Big E and Owens were campaigning hard for this too. They wanted it to make sense and yeah, we got what we want.
Basically, we're back to the "Lesnar > Everyone" thing. Not just in strength but booking too. When you got Big E and Owens trying to work together backstage to get stuff poppin and it's shut down and Lesnar ends up with the belt that says a lot.
