The story should have been Miz convincing Shane to let him finish the tournament and gutting out the win against Ziggler. He had won clean through the tournament and Miz fighting through injury to win the World Cup, and kind of proving Daniel Bryan wrong about him, would have been fire. Or the Shane finish happens as is and Miz comes out the next night furious that they wouldn’t let him compete, with Shane talking down to him about how he knew Miz didn’t have the guts to fight through it and made a judgement call, with Miz more determined than ever to prove Shane wrong. Miz as a face who *finally* earned the respect of the fans, going after the title to prove he's legit would have been money At the time I was hoping for Miz as a face who is still smart, sneaky and manipulative, only now people cheer him because he's doing it to Shane and the other heels.

I love that time they had to have Randy Orton come out and explain in kayfabe why he sold Shane's punches, they were that bad.

He was always a tough guy. Remember the interminable Shane/Kane feud from 2003? Totally killed Kane's aura. Came here to post this. The Kane unmasking actually started out pretty decent as far as rebuilding Kane as a monster and within a few weeks Shane killed it dead. He’s been the ass kicker who only loses because he falls off something really high for a long time.
