People simple question. What is your limit when it comes to wrestlers using weapons to incapacitate their opponents?
I was watching "Dark Side of The Ring" the other day with hardcore specialist Nick Gage. He was taking on David Arquette. The whole purpose of this match was for Mr. Courtney Cox to "legitimize" himself as an actual pro wrestler by competing in a death match. During the match, he bleed purposely, but what really did it for me was when Gage took a pizza cutter and slashed it across his forehead. I literally cringed with fear. Is that all worth it just to prove the fans you can hang with the boys in a fake sport?
I don't mind an occasional bloodfest, but this just goes above and beyond my suspension of disbelief and makes me go "I'm done." I'm sure there are other incidents that tested my patience, but this was the first thing that came to mind.
How about you?

Those boards with rows of open scissors were pretty eyebrow raising

I saw a match online years ago in CZW where a guy got hit with a weedwhacker, that did it for me.

When it gets to stabbing and maiming one another with cheese graters and the such.
I don't mind tables or kendo sticks, but when it gets to that I say no

I'm down for most anything but I get anxious as shit whenever dudes bring out scissors or tease using something like a sword, cause you know damn well eventually someone's gonna try to do a real sword spot.

I'm fine with most things but when I start seeing like legit flesh, it's too much for me. Blood and all that is totally fine.

Anything that can cause serious harm. Hardcore wrestling is still supposed to be something of a sport.
Blunt objects within reason, thumbtacks, tables, even fire when used sparingly are ok.
Glass and blades are a big no.

AEW's hardcore matches are about the upper limit of it for me. Like if it wasn't for the hilarious juxtaposition of the Dominoes commercial, I think Nick Gage's pizza cutter spot with Jericho would've crossed my personal line. Some of what ECW did was too much. CZW, GCW, and indy promotions with deathmatches go way too far for me.

To me, if it's literally all plunder shots, it bores me. That's before getting into when the gore is too much:
Light tubes are really dumb. Glass and mercury.
Anytime with actual blades (other than the small ones used for actual blading).
High falls too. No need.

Unprotected chairshots.
I cover my eyes whenever watching older ECW stuff.

Unprotected chairshots. I cover my eyes whenever watching older ECW stuff. Yea, I meant to add that as well. That said, I have no issue with protected shots, though I know they can go wrong too.

I've never found a ceiling, honestly..
The only thing I can't do is watch bones break. For whatever reason, that f***s me up.
But as far as glass, scissors, barbed wire, that kinda stuff? I've never seen anything too much for me. That cringe is exactly why I watch that stuff, frankly. If people are willing to do it to themselves, I'm here for it.
The only spots I sometimes take issue with is anything involving animals, but that's because of the animals, not the humans. The animals didn't ask for this shit.

Honestly, I'm a big deathmatch fan. So, my limits are mostly actions that I know would cause severe injury even in a controlled environment...so heights, unprotected head shots, some of the larger bladed objects, etc. My complaints are usually targeted towards the workers than the plunder.

I'm fine with most of it, I just find a lot of it uninspiring and TBH, lazy. Hit person with light tube, that person hits you back. It's all just kind of lame and overly choreographed to me. I don't mean to be waving around a tennis racket or anything, but I just don't think it involves a ton of skill.

Also gusset plates!!! Oh my god gusset plates!!! Who is responsible for bringing those things in to deathmatch wrestling cause I hate them. I had to Google what a gusset plate is, and nooooooooope. I watched a good amount of IWA:MS deathmatch tourneys back in the mid-2000s so I'd guess I have a higher tolerance than most, but I remember a Razorblade Board match that kind of made me re-evaluate things. I also recall a story a few months back about someone chopping a guy's finger off with bolt cutters, and that's entirely too much for me.

So weird how your tastes change over time. As a 13 or 14 year old kid, I couldn't get enough of CZW, BJPW, FMW and all that. I think when you're younger outrageous shit like that pops you cause its just that far on that side of things.
Anymore, I could care less. I don't vehemently dislike it like it seems so many people do nowadays, but it's not something I seek out unless I'm feeling nostalgic. As far as actual spots/weapons or whatever goes.. I have to say that even if I make myself ignorant enough to whats going on in the kayfabe sense, I can get the weedwhackers and fire and all that.. what I will never understand from a psychological standpoint is anything with syringes (like the SAW deathmatch). If I'm in a wrestling match with someone and they try to push a needle through my cheek, you're getting New Jack'ed on the spot. It's all over. We're fighting.

For me, when Jun Kasai first used that razor board in Big Japan, and you saw his back just start bleeding... that's about the time I started to cringe a bit at some of the matches. There's some serious-looking injuries that I won't watch at all. It took a long time for me to work up the courage to watch that Vader/Stan Hansen match where Vader almost lost his eye and that was bloodless.

Only hardcore matches I liked were those mid 90's WCW matches where Tony, Bobby, and Dusty just laughed their asses off and said "plundah" a lot.
