Damn. And I thought people would like Big E getting a world title back, plus beating his hero. Guess not.. I’d like Big E having a match with his hero. I’d like Big E getting his world title back. But I just can’t have it based on Goldberg beating Reigns. They’ve spent a year and a half building up this guy as literally unbeatable, with everyone and everything that has gone into that. You have one chance to beat that man for the belt and for it to mean something. Goldberg isn’t it. Yeah if they had put Goldberg in the Chamber and had him win the title from Lashley, that would work better in getting Big E that match. Though I’m pretty sure Big E is ticketed back to the tag division unfortunately.

So doesn't Goldberg lose most of the time these days? Why, as a Goldberg fan, would I want to see him show up and get his ass kicked? It isn't like he was a workrate guy who put on great matches win or lose, his whole appeal is that he annihilates guys in seconds. Why am I supposed to want to see a guy I remember being a badass when I was a teenager looking like an old man who can't get the job done anymore? That's not nostalgia, that's a sad reminder of encroaching mortality. They've got a roster filled with losers who they're determined to undermine and make sure don't get over already, why not throw another one of them to Goldberg to murder? That might actually be entertaining. I harp on this exact point every f***ing time they bring out Goldberg. Goldberg absolutely has a role to play in WWE, but it’s squashing geeks every few months to pop a rating or sell some tickets. Stop putting him in main events that make him look bad! For the love of God, just get him away from the WWE/Universal Title. I'm tired of him coming back and immediately getting title shots.

The belt would be off Roman so I'd take it. I don't even care what the payoff is, I just want it to end.

Bill Goldberg can still present himself as a badass. For that reason, I understand WWE wanting to use him to get some of those who are nostalgic to care.
But Bill Goldberg should arrive, kill somebody and leave. Honestly, Sami Zayn might be a great WrestleMania program for Goldberg because he can be a smarmy little prick, get killed, and still have his heat the next week. He just shouldn't be wrestling for belts anymore.

It was short, Ziggler sold like his soul was speared out of his body and the crowd went home happy. For a company that finally seemed to get Goldberg briefly, it’s sort of amazing how quick they stopped getting Goldberg again. They have all the WCW footage they want, they can see what worked first hand!

The problem these days is that guys like Lesnar and Goldberg don't need the money as much as WWE needs the big name to sell tickets and subscriptions. So, these guys are likely making demands beyond money in order to show up - things like "creative control". It's a conundrum that increasingly exposes WWE to a collapse scenario. What happens when their demands can't be met or when they simply can't go anymore and can't meet the commitment under any circumstance? Who's left to bear the banner for the brand?

The best use of Goldberg since his return was his feud with Ziggler.
That’s how he should be used these days imo.

This one trick pony got stale 20 years ago during his initial WCW run. This sigining is just (further) punishment for watching the product.

People have been saying that for the last 15 years but it never comes to fruition. What will they do when they can’t rely on Shawn Michaels, Triple H and The Undertaker? What will they do when John Cena can’t go full-time? But there will always be the next wave of full-timers switching to part-time legend status, and then new talent moving into the full-time main event positions.

Have him duck Goldberg, have him be obnoxious but clever enough to outplay Goldberg, and then build up to Goldberg getting his hands on Sami at Mania and destroying him in under a minute as a cooldown spot. Matches like that used to be a thing, and it'd be a great use of a part-timer who was limited in his glory days and now charitably can be described as 'if the concept of asthma hit the gym'. Brock almost never just kills some goofs dead as a match to pop the crowd. Hell even the Cena vs. Undertaker "program" at Mania would have been fine with anyone but John Cena in that spot. WWE's decision to put these guys almost only into programs with the top top talent and do world title stuff really underscores how much the people who aren't in the main event aren't worth the consideration from the writers.

When no star is meant to be bigger than WWE, the only people who'll be watching WWE on Nostalgia Nights will be those who were hardcore-enough fans back then. Ratings for Raw and Smackdown have dropped even more than the cord-cutting trend since 2012.

Ratings for Raw and Smackdown have dropped even more than the cord-cutting trend since 2012. When you remove sports from the equation, I believe their audience drop has been very similar to the overall drop in cable subscriptions (slightly faster). And they remain at the top of the rankings most weeks. And it’s not like the “nostalgia” names they bring in now raise ratings to some unattainable level otherwise. They sometimes give a minor bump but if those nostalgia acts were to disappear they wouldn’t move the overall numbers by much.

The crowd would pop for madcap and Corbin getting beat up by Goldberg. No one would care that they would be seen as goobers either.

And then we find out it was because Undertaker wasn't sure about the match when asked about it at the Rumble? F*** right off, man. What a waste of all involved.

It also just made literally no sense that Cena kept yammering on about how he had no path to Wrestlemania like he couldn't find someone to punch in the face and get a match if he really wanted it. They never provided any sort of narrative reason why he was somehow without a match or put any genuine obstacles in his way, just had him chase assorted contendership opportunities and then go "Welp if I don't get these then I'm really boned ain't I". It was an absolute trash storyline, where some upstart heel trying to make himself famous and playing into taunting Taker into coming out would have been way more satisfying and logical. Would've rathered they not run the match at all and leave it as one of history's biggest What Ifs than run it that poorly. But damn yeah even Taker in that program didn't get someone young and new to work with, he got John Cena in a spot that made no sense for him. This is how unwilling they are to let anyone below top star level work with these part-timers.

The worst thing about that segment was the very next segment was Braun Strowman doing a promo to camera going "I don't have a path to WrestleMania". F***er, John F***ing Cena was just in the ring saying "HEY, WHO WANTS TO FACE ME AT WRESTLEMANIA?!" and NOBODY SHOWED UP EVEN THOUGH THE DUDE DOING THE CHALLENGE WAS JOHN F***ING CENA! I'm sorry, I do go on about it at this time every year but everything about that whole thing was moronic, made little sense and somehow devalued John F***ing Cena because nobody wanted to face him. Why?! How?!

This is how unwilling they are to let anyone below top star level work with these part-timers. I said it... I think in this thread... maybe another. In one of his big "I don't have a match" *Sad face* promos... was followed literally by Braun strowman talking about not having a match at Mania... like DUDE! didn't you just hear the former 16 time world champion and former face of the company, was just out there for like 10 minutes bitching that no one wants a match with him? People should have literally been crawling over each other fighting to get to the ring when Cena mentioned having no plans at Mania and wanting a match. I did like the Taker vs. Cena match in concept, and by that I mean that it seemed like the only kinda match that Taker could have at that point... *spooky entrance, maybe a chokeslam, tombstone, leave* ... but that's not a spot for Cena... and really only damaged him more to make him look completely worthless, when the dude is still one of your top money makers and pretty much responsible for you being in position to make all of these record profits.
